Andrés Muñoz gives up walkoff homer versus A’s

Lowe knocked a base hit in the fourth inning, then later gave the Angels the lead with a go-ahead solo homer off Logan Gilbert in the sixth. He was later lifted for a pinch-hitter in the eighth against a left-handed reliever. The 28-year-old outfielder is up to 12 homers while slashing .210/.277/.367 across 312 plate appearances.

Ben Joyce got the night off after pitching in two of the last three games. It was Ryan Watson who got the call in the ninth to close out the game against the Mariners with a one-run lead. He worked around a base hit, inducing a ground ball double-play to end the contest with his third save of the season.

Johnson was excellent against the Mariners on Tuesday, holding Seattle to just one run over six innings. The lone run came on a pair of hits in the sixth. Johnson would finish his day scattering six hits in all while issuing zero walks and striking out seven. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 4.88 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and a 70/39 K/BB ratio across 90 1/3 innings into a start against the Twins in Anaheim on Sunday.

Gilbert had worked through four shutout innings before giving up a run on two hits in the fifth. Josh Lowe would then take him deep for a solo homer in the sixth. Gilbert would finish out the inning, ending his day after six frames with seven strikeouts. He’d take a tough-luck loss, getting just one run of support. The 29-year-old right-hander will carry a 3.69 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a 194/46 K/BB ratio across 178 innings into a start against the Astros in Seattle next Tuesday.

Jones’ home run was his 10th of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Twins reliever Taylor Rogers in the sixth inning. It was Jones’ first home run since September 1, a span of 11 games where he hit .333 with three double and six RBI despite not leaving the yard. He’s hitting .259 with a .783 OPS and 37 RBI in 78 games this year.

Bellinger’s home run was his 16th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Bailey Ober in the first inning. Bellinger has found his power stroke with four home runs over his last seven games. He’s hitting .272 with a .790 OPS and 71 RBI.

Ober gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out three. He fell to 7-6 with the loss. Ober hasn’t won a start since July 17 against the Cubs, a span of nine starts. He has a 4.32 ERA. Ober is lined up to face the Giants on the road next week.

Carrigg had an incredible day at the plate, starting with a base hit in the first inning. He then took Walker Buehler deep for a two-run homer in the third. Carrigg doubled in his next at-bat, then went yard again, extending the Rockies’ lead with a three-run blast off Randy Vásquez. The 24-year-old has emerged as a solid, versatile player for the Rockies, splitting time between the outfield and shortstop. He’s hitting .270/.338/.474 with 10 homers, 45 runs scored, 45 RBI, and nine steals across 327 plate appearances.

Fried gave up six hits, walked none and struck out six. He improved to 5-4 on the year with the win. Fried had his longest outing since he returned from injury in July. He has a 2.63 ERA. Fried is lined up to face the Rays at home next week.

Tatis got the scoring started right away, taking Kyle Freeland deep for a solo homer to lead off the first inning. His 23rd home run of the season went 455 feet to left field. The 27-year-old slugger is up to 18 second-half home runs after hitting just five entering the All-Star break.
