Giants promote Scott Bandura for MLB debut

Rafaela has been out since early September with a right quad strain. He progressed to hitting off a Trajekt machine last week. Obviously, the Red Sox would like to get him back into game action before their postseason run gets underway next week. It certainly sounds like he’s close.

The dynamic 28-year-old power/speed combo threat has posted 19 homers and 40 steals in 134 games this season. He’s one round-tripper shy of the second 20-homer, 40-steal campaign of his career.

Schuemann will remain on standby at the club’s spring training facility in Florida in case they need to bring up a position player later this week or during the postseason. He was brought back to the majors over the weekend to replace an injured Aaron Judge (calf) on New York’s active roster.

Nimmo is back in right field and hitting fifth as he faces his former team for the first time. The 33-year-old veteran was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with an illness. He told reporters that he’s feeling much better after battling a stomach bug.

All indications are that Cavalli is healthy after tossing five scoreless innings against the Cardinals last Friday. However, the Nationals have nothing to play for in the final week of the season and aren’t going to let Cavalli take the ball again after signing a four-year, $47 million contract extension earlier this month. He was slated to close out the season with a road matchup against the Tigers on Wednesday. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers in the home stretch of rotisserie formats as he finishes his breakout campaign with a 13-5 record along with a 3.02 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 200/48 K/BB ratio across 169 2/3 innings of work.

Green receives a new contract to stay on as New York’s permanent manager after spending the last three months as the club’s interim skipper. Mets president David Stearns ultimately decided to reverse course on hiring a new manager after Green, who hasn’t managed since being dismissed by the Padres back in 2019, did an admirable job navigating the injury-ravaged Mets following Carlos Mendoza’s dismissal in late June. He’s displayed an uncanny knack for saying the right thing to the media when faced with difficult situations over the last few weeks and has certainly earned the opportunity to lead New York’s relatively young nucleus for the next couple seasons.

It doesn’t sound like Bregman is going on the injured list for the final week of the regular season. However, he won’t be available in any capacity after being diagnosed with multiple facial fractures. The 32-year-old third baseman was injured in a freak accident where he was struck by a foul ball in the on-deck circle over the weekend. He’s aiming to make it back for the postseason. It’ll be rookie Pedro Ramírez taking over at the hot corner in his absence on Tuesday night.

Peters came off the bench during Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers, which was an extremely encouraging sign following a nasty collision with the center-field wall last Friday. The White Sox are proceeding with an abundance of caution, but Peters figures to be available to pinch-hit, if needed.

There’s zero incentive for the Red Sox to push Contreras back before he’s ready after clinching a playoff spot over the weekend. The 34-year-old first baseman will miss his fourth consecutive contest after being hit by a pitch on the right hand last week. There’s a decent chance Contreras returns at some point later this week since he’ll want to get some at-bats under his belt before Boston kicks off their postseason run.
