Cade Smith struck out two in a perfect ninth inning against the Athletics on Friday to record his 38th save of the season.

Smith has pulled within striking distance of Rays stopper Bryan Baker for the major-league lead in the saves department entering the home stretch. He’s just two behind after needing just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to dispatch the Athletics in this one. The 27-year-old elite fantasy closer has converted 38 of 43 save opportunities to accompany a pristine 2.06 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 100/22 K/BB ratio across 70 innings. He’ll be the second closer off the board behind Padres other-worldly sensation Mason Miller in every fantasy draft next spring.

Cade Smith got four outs in a 1-0 game for his 39th save Sunday against the A’s.

Smith was called on after Hunter Gaddis gave up a pair of hits in the eighth. He struck out Henry Bolte to end the threat and then got two more K’s in the ninth. That brings his total to 103 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings this season. He finished with 104 in 73 2/3 innings last year and 103 in 75 1/3 innings as a rookie in 2024. Mason Miller is in line to smash some salary records as an arbitration-eligible reliever in the coming years, but Smith shouldn’t come in too far behind.

Cade Smith recorded a four-out save in Wednesday’s 6-3 victory over the White Sox.

Smith struck out two over 1 1/3 perfect innings, nailing down his 37th save of the year. The right-hander now has a pristine 2.09 ERA in 2026. Since August 1 of last season, his 50 saves lead all relievers, setting him up to once again be one of the earliest-drafted closers in 2027 fantasy leagues.

Cade Smith let up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to secure the save on Friday against the Twins.

Smith worked around a measly single with a game-ending double play to finish off this win for the Guardians after they stormed ahead in the top of the ninth. It was his 36th save on the season which tied him with Riley O’Brien for second-most in the league to go along with a 2.18 ERA and 1.05 ERA. He’s cemented himself as one of the game’s best closers in his first full season with the role.

Cade Smith struck out five batters and got the win against the Tigers on Sunday.

Smith entered a tied game in the ninth inning and struck out two in a perfect inning. With the game still tied and the automatic runner on second base in the 10th inning, he struck out the side in order, setting up the Guardians for the walk-off win in the bottom of the inning. Smith’s win was his fifth of the year. He has a 2.25 ERA.

Cade Smith notched a win with a scoreless ninth in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader versus the Tigers.

Smith struck out two in a 6-6 game before Brayan Rocchio won it in the bottom of the ninth. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s available in the nightcap after throwing 18 pitches in game one. He’s never pitched in both games of a doubleheader before, but he’d pitched just once in nine days coming into this one.

Cade Smith hurled a scoreless 10th inning to pick up a save versus the Angels on Tuesday.

Smith hit Cristian Moore to begin the inning, and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one out. Smith was able to whiff the next two, and it gives him 35 saves on the campaign and lowers his ERA on the season to 2.40.

Cade Smith allowed one run and picked up the save against the Angels on Monday.

Smith’s save was his 34th of the year. He came on in a 4-1 game and the Angels turned a hit batter, a single and a sacrifice fly into a run. Smith still slammed the door as the Guardians won, 4-2. His ERA is 2.44 on the season.

Cade Smith allowed a run but still picked up a save against the Rockies on Saturday while working an inning.

Smith was handed a two-run lead that was immediately halved when Connor Norby took him deep to begin the inning. He retired the next three and added a strikeout to get his 33rd save of the season. That was just the second run that Smith has allowed in August, and his ERA is still an excellent 2.33 on the year.

Cade Smith slammed the door on the Giants on Thursday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run lead and tally his 32nd save of the season.

Smith made it interesting once again in this one, issuing a pair of two-out walks that brought the tying run to the dish in the form of Rafael Devers. Not to worry though, as the 27-year-old stopper got the Giants’ slugger on a fly ball to center field to put the game away. He has now converted 32 of his 37 save chances on the season while compiling a stellar 2.21 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 80/20 K/BB ratio across 57 innings of work.

Cade Smith let up two hits and struck out three batters in a four-out save against the Tigers on Wednesday.

Smith let this one get a little too crazy. He entered in a three-run game with two outs in the eighth inning and promptly threw a wild pitch to let one run score. Then, gave up a lead-off single in the ninth to send the tying run to the plate. Gleyber Torres singled after that to put the tying runs on base with Dillon Dingler and Kevin McGonigle due up. Smith turned up the heat in that moment, throwing six fastballs of at least 98 mph – a full tick above his season average – over his last seven pitches to get out of the jam. He has a 2.30 ERA and is second in the league with 31 saves in what’s been a standout season.

Thompson is about ready to return from a strained back, but he’s ineligible to do so because of the decision to move him to the 60-day IL at the beginning of the month. He won’t be able to come off the IL until the postseason, and it doesn’t currently look like the Diamondbacks will be taking part.

Nelson Rada went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two walks as Triple-A Salt Lake’s left fielder on Sunday.

If the Angels still have high hopes for the 21-year-old Rada, they’re not really showing it while batting him sixth and playing him in a corner in Triple-A. He ends the year at .278/.376/.362 with three homers and 43 steals. It’s a lot more difficult to imagine him making it in the majors as a platoon starter against righties if he’s not a center fielder.

Charlie Condon had a three-run homer and a bases-loaded walk Sunday for Triple-A Albuquerque.

Rockies fans were robbed of a Condon callup by the horrible decision to not trade but extend Mickey Moniak in August. Condon ends the year with a .273/.390/.514 line, 27 homers and 98 RBI in 130 games for Albuquerque. He still might have a chance to make the Rockies out of spring training, but that Moniak belongs at DH and isn’t going anywhere won’t help matters.

Hyeseong Kim went 0-for-4 on Sunday to conclude the Triple-A season with a .262/.330/.345 line in 85 games.

Oklahoma City will be in the PCL championship, so Kim isn’t done for the year just yet. Still, his regular season is done. He had a .794 OPS in 37 Triple-A games and a .699 OPS in 71 major league games last year, but he’s at .674 in Triple-A and .651 in 43 major league games this season. He’ll likely enter the final guaranteed season of his three-year, $12.5 million contract out of the Dodgers’ plans. They’ll probably be willing to take on a portion of the $5.25 million he’s still owed if someone else wants to give him a chance.

Cooper Ingle doubled twice and scored twice for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.

Ingle’s introduction to the majors in June couldn’t have gone much worse, but he ends the Triple-A season with a fantastic .297/.424/.528 line and 20 homers in 471 plate appearances. That .952 OPS leads all qualified International League hitters, Ingle did go back to catching in the minors after being looked at a left fielder and DH during his brief time in the majors. It doesn’t seem like he has a future behind the plate in Cleveland, but his bat should make him of some use next year.

Enrique Bradfield Jr. homered and tripled for Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Bradfield ended up playing in 88 games for Norfolk and hitting .262/.352/.363 with four homers and 36 steals. Durability remains an issue for the 2023 first-round pick, and his lack of exit velocity makes him look like a low-ceiling offensive prospect. Still, he plays a mean center field and is a force on the basepaths. The Orioles will almost certainly have to add him to the 40-man this winter, even if he doesn’t project as a quality regular at this point.

Hunter Barco allowed only an unearned run over five innings for Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.

He struck out two. Expectations were that we’d be seeing quite a bit more of Barco in the majors this season, especially after he opened the year on the Pirates’ active roster, but he was sent down after four appearances in April and made just three more over the course of the season. In Triple-A, he ended up with a 3.79 ERA and an 80/41 K/BB over 14 starts and seven relief appearances. He’s gone from looking like a potential fourth or fifth starter to more of a middle relief guy now.

Jhostynxon Garcia hit his 10th homer Sunday for Indianapolis to finish the Triple-A season with a .271/.334/.454 line.

Neither the Pirates nor the Red Sox got what they wanted from the García-Johan Oviedo swap in year one. Garcia did spend a little time int he majors, but he went 8-for-48 with no homers and a 16/1 K/BB. With Esmerlyn Valdez having overtaken hm as a right-handed corner outfield option, his future is rather cloudy right now.

Joe Jiménez averaged 92.2 mph with his fastball in his third and final appearance with Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.

He allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning. Jiménez hasn’t pitched for the Braves since 2024 because of knee troubles. He’s giving it a go now, but it remains to be seen if Atlanta will activate him. His velocity is down about two mph from where he was two years ago.

Suarez, out since late June with a forearm strain, averaged 96.9 mph with his four fastballs, down about two mph from his season average of 98.8 mph. Sunday’s game was Gwinnett’s last of the season, so Suarez will not be able to make any additional appearances before coming off the IL.
