Nationals RHP prospect Jarlin Susana allowed one run on one hit in five innings in Arizona Fall League action on Tuesday.

The big right-hander struck out five and walked two while throwing 38 of his 63 pitches for strikes. After undergoing lat surgery in 2025, Susana didn’t pitch in the minor leagues this season until August, so this was his longest outing since early in 2025. While he showed off his trademark triple-digit four-seamer, he also heavily mixed in a sinker that runs in on the hands of right-handers and an upper-80s power curve. The Nationals also have him working on a tighter cutter that he’s been throwing in the upper 90s in Arizona. Given his long layoff, health is the biggest positive for Susana, but if the 22-year-old is able to find a pitch mix that will give him good enough command to pair with his elite fastballs, he could be an impact arm for the Nationals in 2027.
Brewers 'proved' they were best team in MLB
Following their dominant 11-2 run through the postseason to their first World Series title, the Brewers did everything they needed to prove they were the best team in baseball this season.

One of the hardest-throwing starting pitching prospects in baseball, Susana’s premium fastball velocity was on display during Saturday’s AFL lid-lifter as he topped out at 103.8 mph, according to Statcast. He touched triple digits a whopping 35 times in the 55-pitch outing. The flame-throwing 22-year-old is getting some additional work in the fall circuit after missing most of the year recovering from a lat tear that required surgery last year. He figures to open next season at Triple-A Rochester, but he’s the type of name that fantasy managers need to know heading into next spring.

Susana is one of the hardest-throwing starting pitching prospects in the game and he displayed his premium velocity in his first Triple-A outing, topping out at 102.6 mph in the 66-pitch effort. The electrifying 22-year-old is one of the better fantasy prospects in the game solely because his strikeout upside is off the metaphorical charts if everything comes together. Susana remains a work in progress after missing significant time due to injury in each of the last two seasons. He’s the caliber of pitching prospect that fantasy managers need to follow closely as he continues his trajectory towards Washington’s rotation.

Susana has been making his way back from last September’s lat surgery and has pitched just 17 2/3 innings this year. He has a 5.09 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in those innings, but he also has a 43.6 percent strikeout-to-walk ratio and struck out 21 batters in 11 1/3 innings at Double-A. The 22-year-old may not officially be a reliever long-term, but he will continue to work out of the bullpen in Triple-A while the team gets him consistent innings to end the season.

Susana had lat surgery in September of last year and has just begun his rehab assignment. His command was a bit iffy, walking two in the outing, but he also struck out two and touched 103 mph on the radar gun, which is great to see after such a long layoff. The oft-injured 22-year-old was at Double-A when his injuries began last year, so he may return there early in 2026 or perhaps get a chance to start the year at Triple-A.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #49
Susana’s injury was described as a strain, so it’s surprising that he required surgery. One of the game’s most talented pitching prospects, Susana ends the year with a 3.51 ERA and a 95/34 K/BB in 56 1/3 innings, most of them coming in Double-A. He also missed time early this season with a UCL sprain.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #49
He’s likely done for the season, but that’s not official. It still seems like good news, given that the injury was originally described as triceps soreness. Susana has already missed time with a sprained UCL earlier this season.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #49
Susana will continue to undergo further evaluation and testing following an early exit from Saturday’s outing at Double-A Harrisburg. The 21-year-old flamethrower has re-emerged as one of the most electric pitching prospects in the dynasty landscape over the last month after missing time earlier this season with a UCL sprain in his elbow. He’s likely going to be done for the season and fantasy managers can only hope that he’s ready to roll for spring training. He has a legitimate chance to break camp in Washington’s rotation.

Susana’s dynasty stock took a hit earlier this year as he continued to battle control issues and missed time with a UCL sprain. The hard-throwing 21-year-old prospect has flashed top-of-the-rotation upside at times, but he needs to refine his command to reach that potential. It’s outings like this where he’s touching 103 mph and generating 20 swinging strikes that make you forget about the flaws and dream on what he might become someday.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez called it a “best-case scenario” when speaking to reporters on Sunday. There won’t be a definitive update concerning Susana’s long-term outlook until he resumes throwing in a couple weeks. The hard-throwing 21-year-old righty is right there with Travis Sykora as the top pitching prospect in Washington’s system. It’s an encouraging update, but there’s still reason for dynasty managers to closely monitor his status in the coming weeks.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters Saturday that Susana is dealing with an arm injury, but didn’t disclose any additional information. The 21-year-old righty boasts immense strikeout potential and is generally regarded as one of the higher-ceiling pitching prospects in the fantasy landscape. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days.

Mariners exercised RHP Andrés Muñoz $9 million club option for 2027.

Muñoz met all of his bonus criteria with 48 games last season, increasing the value of the option year by $1 million. The Mariners also have a $10 million option for 2028 on the deal they signed with Muñoz way back in Nov. 2021. Muñoz is coming off his worst season, finishing with a 4.24 ERA and 10 blown saves in 38 tries, but he still did strike out 89 in 57 1/3 innings. Bringing him back for $9 million was a no-brainer.

Mariners declined RHP Bryce Miller’s $6 million club option for 2027.

Miller remains under Mariners control. This was one of those contract options that are really just an excuse for file-and-trial teams to do deals to avoid arbitration after their self-imposed deadline for doing so. Since Miller missed about one-third of the season and finished poorly, he’s due a fair amount less than $6 million in arbitration. He’s not going to be eligible for free agency until after the 2029 season.

Mariners declined OF Victor Robles’s $9 million club option for 2027.

He’ll get a $500,000 buyout. Robles earned a two-year extension with a stellar run after joining the Mariners in 2024, but he’s been mostly injured since and hit .251/.300/.318 in 97 games since the start of 2025. He should draw interest as a fourth outfielder in free agency.

Athletics sent C Brian Serven, RHP Henry Baez, RHP Joey Estes, RHP Geoff Hartlieb, INF Michael Stefanic, and OF Johnathan Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

erven spent most of the second half as the Athletics’ No. 2 catcher, hitting .175/.224/.375 with five homers in 85 plate appearances. The 24-year-old Baez, a product of the Mason Miller trade with the Padres, is probably the most interesting name here, but he struggled in Double-A and finished the year on the injured list.

Athletics acquired 3B/OF Nate Eaton from the Red Sox for RHP Jareth Rayo.

Eaton, who turns 30 in December, was just 8-for-50 with one homer for the Red Sox last season, dropping his career line to .221/.294/.307 in 328 plate appearances. He is, however, a very good defensive outfielder, and a nice asset on the basepaths. He can also fill in at third base when needed. He fits fine as a 26th man who gets occasional starts against lefties.

Red Sox acquired RHP Jareth Rayo from the Athletics for 3B/OF Nate Eaton.

Eaton was going to be bumped from Boston’s 40-man anyway, so it’s nice that the Red Sox got something for him. The 18-year-old Rayo had a 5.50 ERA and a 36/20 K/BB in 36 innings while mostly serving as a starter in the Dominican Summer League last season.

Tatsuya Imai will not opt out of the two years left on his deal with the Astros, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports.

Imai didn’t seem to enjoy his first year in MLB, but changing his situation by either returning to Japan or trying to find another MLB team would have cost him. He’s guaranteed $18 million each of the next two years, and he’ll again have the opportunity to opt out next winter. Imai ended up 6-4 with a 4.93 ERA and a 97/51 K/BB in 76 2/3 innings over 15 starts and eight relief appearances last season. His 2027 salary would have increased by $2 million if he topped 80 innings, which is part of why the Astros barely used him down the stretch.

Angels sent C Sebastián Rivero and
LHP Sammy Peralta outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Rivero had one of the most out-of-nowhere performances of the decade in June, going 5-for-5 with six RBI against the Dodgers. As it turned out, it was his next-to-last major league game of the year, as he suffered a broken hamate bone two days later, and the Angels didn’t have a spot for him once he was ready to return. He and Peralta both figure to become free agents in search of minor league deals.

The Diamondbacks are looking at having Nolan Arenado play some first base next season, GM Mike Hazen said.

That’s one option. Another would be to acquire a quality first baseman and simply give Arenado days off when he needs them. Arenado had a terrific rebound campaign in Arizona, but it came with the worst hard-hit rate and highest strikeout rate of his career. A similar followup at age 36 doesn’t seem very likely. Plus, the Diamondbacks need to seriously address first base this winter after Tim Tawa, Ildemaro Vargas and others combined to hit .233/.282/.354 in that spot last season. That .636 OPS was easily the worst in the majors, and the D-backs were just as bad at DH, getting a .630 OPS there.

The A’s are acquiring Nate Eaton from the Red Sox, according to USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale.

Eaton was one of the guys expected to be squeezed from Boston’s 40-man this winter. The 29-year-old has hit .221/.294/.307 in 328 plate appearances since debuting in the majors in 2022.
