Triple-A Fresno’s Jason Ellison went 5-for-5 with a walk and five runs scored in a 24-10 win over Sacramento on Friday.

Clay Timpner and Jed Hansen homered for Fresno, and Fred Lewis and Lance Niekro drove in four runs apiece. Ellison is batting .409 in 176 at-bats since being sent down at the All-Star break. The Giants will recall him next month, but they probably won’t give him much time in the outfield.

The Marlins needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Sunday’s acquisition of Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays and it looks like Acton drew the short straw this time around. There’s a chance that that 27-year-old hurler could pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Marlins.

Marlins acquired INF Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays for INF Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money.

The Marlins designated Garrett Acton for assignment in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the team’s active roster. Jiménez, 24, is out of minor league options so he’ll get an immediate opportunity to show what he can do in a reserve role at the big league level for the Fish.

Astros optioned RHP Christian Roa to Triple-A Sugar Land.

The 26-year-old hurler posted a 6.75 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio over 1 1/3 innings in his two appearances with the Astros. This wasn’t necessarily due to Roa’s ineffectiveness, it’s just that the Astros’ bullpen was completely overworked throughout the weekend and they had to make a move to get a resh arm in there for Monday. Expect a corresponding move to be announced then.

WSH 1st Baseman #87

Nationals optioned INF Andrés Chaparro to Triple-A Rochester.

The Nationals needed to clear a spot on the active roster for Curtis Mead, who was acquired from the White Sox on Sunday, and Chaparro wound up being the odd man out. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until injury or ineffectiveness strike at the big league level.

Orioles acquired OF Johnathan Rodríguez from the Guardians for RHP Carter Rustad.

Rodriguez, 25, was designated for assignment on Wednesday. He has enough power that he would be intriguing for fantasy purposes if he ever found himself in an everyday role, though he has failed to make consistent enough contact thus far to earn that opportunity.

The 27-year-old outfielder was removed from the team’s 40-man roster on Wednesday, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Royals. He should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2026 campaign.

Leo Jiménez

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports that the Marlins have agreed to acquire infielder Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays for minor league infielder Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money.

The Blue Jays had designated Jiménez for assignment earlier in the week, so they were willing to flip him for anything tangible that they could get at this stage. Jiménez is out of minor league options, so the Marlins will have to make a 26-man roster move to clear a spot for him before the trade becomes official.

Tyler O'Neill

BAL Right Fielder #9

Tyler O’Neill went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a three-run homer on Sunday, helping to lead the Orioles to an 8-6victory over the Twins.

O’Neill got the O’s ln the board in the fourth inning, tagging right-hander Bailey Ober for a 391-foot (109.0 mph EV) three-run shot that pulled them to within a run at 4-3. He also drew a walk in the sixth inning and raced around to score on a go-ahead two-run double by Dylan Beavers. He’s hitting .286 (2-for-7) with the one long ball and three RBI on the young season.

Ryan Helsley

BAL Relief Pitcher #21

Ryan Helsley picked up his second save of the season on Sunday, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run lead against the Twins.

The 31-year-old stopper allowed a leadoff single to Luke Keaschall and then Victor Caratini reached on an error with two outs — putting the tying runs on base. Not to worry though as Helsley got James Outman to fly out to left field to end it. He has now successfully converted each of his first two chances on the season and looks like one of the most reliable closer options on the board for fantasy purposes.

Shane Baz

BAL Starting Pitcher #34

Shane Baz struggled a bit during his Orioles’ debut on Sunday, giving up four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 frames in a no-decision against the Twins.

Baz punched out four opposing hitters on the afternoon and did not allow a base on balls. All of the damage done against him came during a four-run uprising in the second inning that included a bases-clearing three-run double from Tristan Gray. Baz generated 12 swings and misses on 78 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll try once again to earn his first victory in an Orioles’ uniform when he takes on the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
