Yunel Escobar (elbow) played catch and ran on the field before Monday’s game against the Angels.
Escobar missed his seventh straight contest Monday, but he’s making bits and pieces of progress and should be able to return to action by the end of this week. The 28-year-old shortstop is batting .290/.369/.413 this year with 11 home runs and 48 RBI.

The Mets are hopeful Clay Holmes will make his next start as scheduled after leaving Friday’s game with hamstring tightness.
Strength tests today went well. If he gets through his between-starts bullpen session without incident, he’ll be cleared to face the Dodgers on Wednesday. Still, mixed leaguers will probably want to avoid using him then.
'No one can touch' Miller right now
James Schiano outlines just how impressive Mason Miller has been for the Padres.
  • DET Relief Pitcher
Tigers claimed RHP Grant Holman off waivers from the Dodgers.
Holman heads to the Motor City as organizational relief depth after spending roughly two weeks with the Dodgers. The 25-year-old righty holds a pedestrian 4.66 ERA and 33/13 K/BB ratio across 38 2/3 innings in the majors since 2024. He’ll presumably open up at Triple-A Toledo for now.
  • DET Shortstop #27
Tigers transferred SS Trey Sweeney to the 60-day injured list.
The move clears a spot on Detroit’s 40-man roster for pitcher Grant Holman. Sweeney is on the shelf with a shoulder strain and won’t be eligible to return until at least late May. He’s obviously been surpassed by Kevin McGonigle in the pecking order up the middle.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #65
Rays recalled RHP Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Durham.
Scholtens gets the call to replace an injured Joe Boyle (elbow) in Tampa Bay’s rotation mix. The 32-year-old righty tossed five innings in relief against the Yankees last week in his season debut. He can be safely ignored in fantasy leagues for now.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #36
Rays placed RHP Joe Boyle on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 10, with a right elbow strain.
Elbow issues are never a great sign and Boyle is going to wind up missing some time, even if this is a relatively minor concern. The 26-year-old is extremely talented, but has had trouble consistently throwing strikes in the majors over the past couple years. There should be a rough timeline on his outlook at some point in the near future.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #57
Rays transferred RHP Drew Rasmussen from the paternity list to the family medical emergency list.
It’s merely a procedural move since Rasmussen can only spend three days on the paternity list under league rules. The 30-year-old is still expected to be activated to start Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees.
  • STL 1st Baseman #41
Alec Burleson is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
Burleson receives his first day off this season with Ramón Urías getting a start at first base in his place. The 27-year-old, who has mostly hit third for the Cardinals this season, is batting .245 (12-for-49) with one homer, 10 RBI and one steal over 13 games
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn (leg) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
Winn is getting some extra time off to rest and recover following an early exit fro, Friday’s game after being hit by a pitch just below his right knee. The 24-year-old shortstop has been diagnosed with a lower leg contusion and isn’t expected to require a lengthy absence. Thomas Saggese takes over at shortstop in his absence.
  • DET Right Fielder #27
Tigers signed OF Tyler Gentry to a minor league contract.
Gentry was cut loose by Kansas City at the end of spring training after losing his spot on the club’s 40-man roster last July. The 27-year-old outfielder heads to Detroit as organizational depth. He got into three games for the Royals back in 2024 and hasn’t been back the big leagues ever since.
  • ATH Right Fielder #4
Lawrence Butler is in the leadoff spot for the second consecutive game on Saturday against the Mets.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay has decided to shake up his lineup card for this series with Butler leading off in back-to-back contests with an ice-cold Nick Kurtz hitting second. The move is an obvious plus for Butler, if it sticks, since it would lead to additional stolen base chances and opportunities to score more runs than being marooned at the bottom of the order. The 25-year-old power/speed combo threat is hitting .189 (7-for-37) with one homer, four RBI and one steal through 12 games. Hopefully this decision helps get both Butler and Kurtz going in the right direction.
