Hector Gomez was diagnosed Monday with a strained right groin and is out indefinitely.
Gomez suffered the injury during a Cactus League game last Thursday against the Cubs. He was a longshot to make the Rockies’ 25-man roster anyway, but the groin strain now ensures that he’ll open 2012 in the minors.

Nick Kurtz is not in the starting lineup for the Athletics on Wednesday against the Braves.
It’s just a routine day off with a day game after a night game, but it will come with Chris Sale on the mound, which isn’t a terrible thing. Lawrence Butler will also get a day off, although his is a bit more platoon-based. Andy Ibanez will start at first base, and Austin Wynns will enter the lineup at catcher with Shea Langeliers moving to DH.
Messick's start vs. LAD puts him on fantasy radars
After Parker Messick spun six scoreless innings against the Dodgers' ferocious lineup, Eric Samulski says fantasy managers should be "buying into" the Guardians starting pitcher.
  • STL Right Fielder #18
Jordan Walker is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Mets.
Walker is off to a solid start, going 5-for-17 with one home run, six runs scored, and three RBI. This is just a routine day off with Thomas Saggese entering the lineup in left field and Nathan Church switching over to right field.
  • CIN 3rd Baseman #28
Eugenio Suárez is not in the lineup on Wednesday against the Pirates. It’s
It’s just a routine day off for the veteran with a day game after a night game. Nathaniel Lowe will start in his place at designated hitter and draws a tough assignment with Paul Skenes pitching for the Pirates.
  • LAD 3rd Baseman #13
Max Muncy went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and a walk in the Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Guardians on Tuesday.
Muncy drew a walk in the second inning, then took Kolby Allard deep for a solo homer in the sixth, a 410-foot blast at 108.1 mph off the bat. He added a base hit in the eighth and scored a second run, reaching for the third time in the contest. The 35-year-old slugger is a safe bet for power in a potent lineup as long as he can avoid the injured list.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #3
Edwin Díaz allowed one run and struck out two batters in a non-save situation on Tuesday against the Guardians.
Manager Dave Roberts summoned Díaz in the ninth inning with the Dodgers up by four runs, with heavy rains and muddy conditions. He hit a batter, issued a walk, and gave up one run on a base hit before striking out the final two batters to end the game after 33 pitches. It was questionable usage to say the least, and makes Díaz likely unavailable on Wednesday should a save opportunity arise.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #17
Shohei Ohtani pitched six shutout innings with six strikeouts in a win over the Guardians on Tuesday.
Ohtani had an outstanding season debut on the mound, holding the Guardians scoreless over six frames. He allowed just one hit and issued three walks while striking out six on 11 whiffs. Ohtani topped out at 99 mph and sat 96.8 mph on a rainy night in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old two-way star added a hit and two walks at the dish. He lines up to make his next start on the mound Monday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #28
Tanner Bibee held the Dodgers to one run with four strikeouts over four innings in a loss on Tuesday.
Bibee got the go-ahead to make his scheduled start after exiting his Opening Day game with shoulder inflammation. He stranded one baserunner in each of the first three innings before the Dodgers brought a run in on three hits in the fourth. Bibee’s day would be done after four frames at 74 pitches. He struck out four on seven swinging strikes. Bibee’s fastball velocity was one to watch. The four-seamer seemed to wane after the first inning, falling from 95 mph to 92 mph, but it might have been a classification issue as his sinker held strong at 95 mph. Rain throughout the game could also have played a role. Still, it was a good result overall. The 27-year-old right-hander should go back into fantasy lineups when he takes on the Royals in Cleveland on Monday.
  • SF Shortstop #2
Willy Adames went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead the Giants to a 9-3 victory over the Padres on Tuesday.
Adames came into this one 2-for-15 at the plate through four games. He doubled that in a big game Tuesday in San Diego. Adames jumped on the second pitch he saw, taking German Márquez deep for a solo blast to put the Giants on the board in the first inning. He knocked a base hit in the second and drove in a run with a single in the sixth. A double in the eighth inning would make it a four-hit night for the 30-year-old shortstop.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #26
Matt Chapman went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored against the Padres on Tuesday.
Chapman knocked a base hit and scored a run in the first inning, then led off the third with his first home run of the season, a 349-foot shot that just snuck over the left field wall off German Márquez. The 32-year-old third baseman is looking to bounce back after he was limited to 128 games due to a hand injury in 2025.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb allowed three runs with five strikeouts over six innings in a win over the Padres on Tuesday.
Webb stranded a pair of baserunners in the first inning, then got into some trouble in the third as he struggled to find the strike zone. He issued his third and fourth walks of the game to put two runners on before a pair of base hits brought three runs in for the Padres. Webb would settle in nicely, retiring his last ten straight batters as he completed six frames for the win while striking out five. The 29-year-old right-hander will take on the Mets in San Francisco on Sunday.
