  • MIN Catcher #46
Personalize your Rotoworld feed by favoriting players
Rays reassigned C Chris Gimenez to minor league camp.
This news means that Jose Lobaton has secured the Rays’ backup catcher job. Gimenez was 4-for-39 this spring.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #23
Personalize your Rotoworld feed by favoriting players
Royce Lewis (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A St. Paul.
It’ll likely be a brief rehab stint for Lewis as he’s aiming to return when first eligible to be activated for Tuesday’s series opener against the Mets. The oft-injured 26-year-old third baseman suffered a sprained left knee on an awkward swing earlier this month, but hasn’t experienced any issues during his recovery. Fantasy managers should expect to have him back in their lineups early next week.
Baldwin scorching to start the season for Atlanta
James Schiano discusses Drake Baldwin's hot start to the season and the metrics that show why he may challenge Cal Raleigh for the best hitting catcher.
  • MIA Left Fielder #28
Kyle Stowers (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with a walk on Friday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Jacksonville.
Stowers kicked off a minor league rehab assignment last Friday and has gone 3-for-17 in five games as he attempts to knock off some of the rust. The 28-year-old corner outfielder suffered a hamstring injury late in spring training that put him on the shelf. He’ll probably need a couple additional rehab contests before returning to Miami for his season debut.
  • DET Center Fielder #95
Tigers OF prospect Max Clark went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer on Friday for Triple-A Toledo.
Clark tied a career high with four hits, including his first Triple-A home run, which traveled 414 feet to straightaway center field. The 21-year-old center fielder appears poised to join longtime minor league teammate Kevin McGonigle as the next impact prospect to arrive in the Motor City as a potential core building block. The third-overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft has let his on-field performance do the talking at the Triple-A level this season as he’s hitting .377/.444/.565 with 10 extra-base hits and six stolen bases through 17 games. The Tigers seem content to roll with veteran Javier Báez in center field for now, but Clark is going to force his way to the big leagues at some point in the coming weeks. He’ll have immediate fantasy appeal as a cheap speed source in deeper mixed leagues, but counting on anything else might be challenging.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #93
Robby Snelling recorded nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings on Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville.
Snelling looks ready to face hitters at the highest level after another impressive outing on the doorstep of the majors where he allowed just three baserunners and needed just 75 pitches to navigate six frames. The 22-year-old southpaw lowered his ERA to 1.89 in the process and boasts a sublime 31/9 K/BB ratio across 19 innings over four starts. He’s exceeded seven punchouts in three straight starts. It’s only a matter of time before he gets the nod to replace underwhelming veteran Chris Paddack in Miami’s rotation. Snelling should be stashed in deeper mixed leagues and will be worthy of a speculative roster spot in shallow formats once he’s promoted.
  • BOS Shortstop #95
Red Sox SS prospect Franklin Arias went 1-for-2 with a solo homer on Friday for Double-A Portland.
Arias has homered in three consecutive contests and leads the entire minors in batting average (.538), on-base percentage (629) and OPS (1.591). The 20-year-old shortstop prodigy has displayed some of the strongest plate skills in the lower minors over the last few years and he’s clearly added some strength and bat speed this season, emerging as one of the more intriguing prospects in the fantasy landscape. He’s highly unlikely to develop into an elite power source at the highest level, but pairing double-digit over-the-fence pop and steals with an above-average hit tool and elite defense set an extremely high fantasy floor. It’s extremely early for definitive statements, but Arias is on pace to finish the year as one of the top prospects in baseball.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher
Pirates RHP prospect Seth Hernandez recorded eight strikeouts over five hitless innings for Low-A Bradenton.
It’s hard to fully capture how dominant Hernandez has been in his professional debut. The numbers speak for themselves as he’s compiled a microscopic 0.75 ERA with a 23/3 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. The 19-year-old, taken sixth overall in last year’s MLB Draft, already looks like one of the most polished young arms in baseball and could reach Double-A by the end of the season. A rapid ascent to the majors like collegiate arms Chase Burns or Trey Yesavage last year seems unlikely, but the stuff is there for him to debut at some point next year.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #6
Josh Jung collected three doubles and knocked in a run as the Rangers blanked the Mariners 5-0 on Friday.
Jung’s doubles were hit 102, 99 and 105 mph, and he also had a 99-mph GIDP. Delivering three hits in back-to-back games has taken him from .231/.298/.288 to .290/.343/.452 on the young season. Tonight’s game was his first ever with three extra-base hits.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #48
Jacob deGrom’s pitch count got him lifted after four scoreless innings against the Mariners on Friday.
DeGrom threw 32 pitches in the first and 88 through four while allowing four hits, walking two and striking out three. It’s likely that another team would have managed at least a couple of runs off him, as he wasn’t particularly sharp. The best the Mariners could do, though, was deny him a victory. DeGrom figures to face the Pirates on Thursday.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #67
Jacob Latz finished off a 5-0 game with a perfect ninth against the Mariners on Friday.
This was a 3-0 game after eighth, but the Rangers scored twice in the ninth to take away the save situation. It didn’t appear that Jakob Junis ever warmed up, so this probably would have been a save chance for Latz if the Rangers hadn’t scored. Cole Winn pitched a hitless eighth for a hold.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert yielded two runs in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Rangers.
Gilbert struck out seven and walked one, but he fell to 1-3 because his team can’t hit right now. The Mariners were shut out for the second time in his five starts this season. They totaled one run in his other loss. He’ll face the A’s next week, which should bode well.
