Brewers prospect SS Gilbert Lara went 2-for-3 with a walk on Thursday for the Rookie Arizona League Brewers.
Lara, who was signed out of the Dominican Republic last summer for $3 million, has hit safely in five straight games to begin his professional career, going 9-for-20 (.450) with two doubles and four RBI in that span. The 17-year-old stands out for his offensive potential, as he’s said to project for an average hit tool and plus power. His defense is another story, however, as scouts are doubtful of his ability to remain at shortstop. Should he be forced off the position, Lara’s dangerous bat would be a clean fit at the hot corner or in left field.
