R.J. Alaniz has elected free agency.
Alaniz has refused an outright minor-league assignment and will test the free agenct waters this offseason. The 30-year-old righty posted a solid 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 3/3 K/BB ratio across 2 2/3 innings (three appearances) with the Reds this season.

Iván Herrera delivered a pair of homers to knock in three runs and walked Saturday in the Cardinals’ 9-6 takedown of the Twins.
He had a two-run homer off Connor Prielipp as the second batter of the game, and he broke a 4-4 tie with the first of back-to-back homers with Jordan Walker in the seventh. It’s Herrera’s second career multihomer game, though he hit three the other time on Apr. 2, 2025. He has nine homers on the year, and he’s currently seventh in the majors with a .400 OBP.
'Fire up' Skubal after quick recovery from injury
Returning from a remarkably quick recovery timeline, Tarik Skubal takes the mound once again this weekend. James Schiano shares what fantasy managers should expect from one of the game's true aces.

Matthew Liberatore yielded four runs in 4 1/3 innings versus the Twins on Saturday.
Liberatore gave up two homers in the fourth and one more in the fifth before departing. That brings his season total of homers allowed to 14 in 14 starts. Last year, he allowed a total of 19 in his 29 starts. Liberatore will take a 3-3 record and a 4.71 ERA into his next turn versus the Royals.

Asked to finish off a four-run lead, Riley O’Brien walked three and gave up a run in the ninth Saturday against the Twins.
O’Brien got the job done in the end, but not before making everyone pretty nervous. He also threw 31 pitches, which might take him out of play Sunday. O’Brien has allowed 13 earned runs, walked 10 and hit four batters over 17 innings in his last 17 appearances. He could bounce back, but those in deeper leagues on the hunt for saves might want to think about stashing George Soriano. He’s not taking over the job just yet, but he could close Sunday if O’Brien needs the day off.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
Connor Prielipp gave up four runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Prielipp didn’t seem long for this one after giving up a two-run homer to the second batter he faced in the first and two more runs in the second, but he hung around and kept the Twins in the game despite managing just two strikeouts and giving up 12 hard-hit balls. He wound up leaving with the score tied after six, only to immediately watch the Cardinals hit three homers in a five-run seventh. Prielipp remains 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA. He should stay in the rotation for now and face the D-backs next week, but a move to the pen could be a possibility at some point if the Twins get some injured starters back.
  • STL 1st Baseman #49
Blaze Jordan collected his first homer — a three-run shot in the seventh inning — and triple Saturday against the Twins.
The triple looked like a routine fly to right, but Austin Martin got worried about the wall and missed the ball. The homer was very legitimate, leaving Jordan’s bat at 110.2 mph and traveling a projected 418 feet to left-center. Jordan probably isn’t a third baseman for the long haul, but the Cardinals needed to give him a look, and if he shows he belongs, they can figure something out. He’s 4-for-8 so far.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #23
Royce Lewis homered and doubled versus the Cardinals as the Twins’ cleanup hitter Saturday.
It was a good day for Lewis, but the last at-bat was a bust; up with two on and one out in the bottom of the eighth, he swung at the first pitch he saw, a JoJo Romero changeup that was just off the plate, and produced a routine double play to half the Twins’ rally. Still, Lewis has now hit in six straight. He’s 10-for-26 with three homers and two doubles since returning to the majors.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #57
Coleman Crow is expected to resume throwing in a few days after landing on the IL with a flexor strain.
An MRI came back pretty good, so the Brewers are hoping Crow won’t need much time off. Maybe we’ll see him again just after the All-Star break, though if the Brewers have Brandon Woodruff and Logan Henderson healthy then, Crow might be left in Triple-A.
  • CLE Left Fielder #1
Angel Martínez left Saturday’s game after two innings with an apparent foot injury.
Martínez fouled a pitch off his foot in the first. He played through it for a bit, but Steven Kwan replaced him on defense to start the third. He’s probably day-to-day.
  • CLE Right Fielder #24
Chase DeLauter left Saturday’s game in the first inning with an apparent injury.
Dalauter left after a single in the first, though the injury might have been a result of him hitting the wall on defense in the top of the inning. Daniel Schneeman pinch-ran for him.
  • BOS Left Fielder #19
Roman Anthony (finger) told reporters Saturday that he’s still experiencing discomfort when he attempts to swing.
Anthony added that he’s progressing a lot slower than originally anticipated when he hit the injured list back in early May with an initial 6-8 week return timetable. The 22-year-old has been diagnosed with a small ligament tear in his right ring finger and doesn’t appear close to ramping up baseball activities. He also mentioned that there are no plans to undergo any followup imaging and surgery is not being considered. There is unlikely to be a clear return timetable until Anthony is able to progress to swinging a bat without any symptoms.
