Wyatt Mathisen doubled, homered and drove in three runs in a Cactus League win over the Rockies on Saturday.
Mathisen’s homer was the first of the spring, and it came off Frank Duncan in the second inning. The 27-year-old is organizational depth for the Giants, and looks to to be headed to Triple-A to begin 2022.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Red Sox “have expressed interest” in trading for 3B Isaac Paredes.
The Red Sox want to bring Alex Bregman back to play third base, but they are also pursuing Bo Bichette and Isaac Paredes for the same role. The Astros are in the market for young pitchers with multiple years of control, and the Red Sox have plenty, so the teams could align on a deal, especially since Carlos Correa can play third base in Houston now. Paredes missed much of the second half of the season with a hamstring injury, but he’s under team control for two more seasons, makes under $10 million per year, and has a pulled fly ball approach that would work well in Fenway Park.
What Williams' deal means for Mets' bullpen plans
Eric Samulski unpacks the reports of Devin Williams signing a three-year deal for the New York Mets and how it impacts his fantasy stock, along with the team's bullpen plans.
  • ARI 2nd Baseman #4
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal suggests that the “Diamondbacks might need the market to play out and for clubs to become more desperate” before trading Ketel Marte.
Rosenthal highlighted some potential concerns with “clubhouse fit and the acquisition cost” that are preventing teams from making aggressive offers for Marte right now. As a result, the Diamondbacks might be wise to wait and let free agency play out a little more before trying to make a move. That being said, Marte will gain full no-trade protection after the tenth day of the 2026 season since he will have accrued 10 years of service and five consecutive with the same club. That might make it harder for Arizona to trade him.
  • FA Shortstop #11
MLB insider Ari Alexander reported that the Red Sox had a Zoom meeting with Bo Bichette recently, and “Bichette came away impressed with the Red Sox.”
The Red Sox allegedly would like to bring back Alex Bregman to play third base, but they appear to be seriously interested in adding Bichette as another option. If Bichette were to come to Boston, he could perhaps move to second base and allow Marcelo Mayer to play third, or the Red Sox could slide Trevor Story back to second base and put Bichette at short. Bichette’s plus contact ability and line drive approach would play really well against the Green Monster, but we are still in the early stages here.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #34
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that free agent RHP Michael King “appears to be the Mets’ top rotation target.”
Well, the Mets do love their converted relievers. King is one of the top starters on the free agent market, and the Mets are “hesitant to sign a starting pitcher to a long-term deal,” so that makes adding a pitcher like Framber Valdez less likely. King missed much of last season with a shoulder injury, and there are some durability concerns given his short track record as a starter; however, he posted a 2.95 ERA in 173 2/3 innings for the Padres in 2024 and has the raw ability to be a clear top-of-the-rotation starter.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #74
MLB insider Ari Alexander reports that the Tigers and Angels are both interested in free agent closer Kenley Jansen.
Alexander specifies that the Tigers are actively interested in adding Jansen to their bullpen, while the Angels “have also checked in on Jansen.” The 38-year-old notched 29 saves last season for the Angels with a 2.59 ERA in 59 innings. His underlying metrics were not quite as kind, and the strikeout upside isn’t what it was before, but Jansen has remained a solid late-inning reliever. The Tigers are also interested in Kyle Finnegan, so they seem intent on adding a right-handed closer to pair with Will Vest.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #41
The Rays and reliever Steven Matz are in agreement on a two-year contract, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Matz fortifies Tampa Bay’s relief depth after compiling a strong 3.05 ERA (3.46 FIP) and 59/11 K/BB ratio across 76 2/3 innings over 53 appearances between the Cardinals and Red Sox this past season. The 34-year-old southpaw has excelled since transitioning to a full-time relief role but his fantasy appeal is virtually non-existent since he’s mostly toiling away in middle relief. The Rays are expected to roll with a closer-by-committee strategy next season with Edwin Uceta, Griffin Jax and Garrett Cleavinger sharing the role.

  • TB 1st Baseman #21
Rays signed 1B Logan Davidson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Davidson batted ,167 (7-for-42) with one homer and four RBI across 19 games between the Athletics and Angels this past season. The 27-year-old augments Tampa Bay’s first base depth behind Jonathan Aranda heading into next season.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #99
Braves signed RHP James Karinchak to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Karinchak hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 campaign when he was with the Guardians. He missed most of the ensuing season with shoulder problems. The 30-year-old reliever was cut loose by the White Sox back in June after posting a respectable 2.45 ERA across 29 1/3 innings (24 appearances) for Triple-A Charlotte. He’ll compete for a spot in Atlanta’s bullpen during spring training.
  • FA Left Fielder #12
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports executives believe Kyle Schwarber could sign before the Winter Meetings conclude.
Feinsand adds that executives believe Schwarber may be the first major free-agent domino to fall, with a reunion in Philadelphia viewed as a legitimate possibility. The Mets, Red Sox, Reds and Pirates are also among the clubs showing strong interest in the 32-year-old slugger, who led the National League with 56 homers and 132 RBI last season. His decision looms large: once Schwarber chooses his landing spot, several teams will finally be able to pivot and execute the secondary moves they’ve been waiting on.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #39
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said during the Winter Meetings that Marcelo Mayer (wrist) underwent a follow-up exam last week.
Everything went really, really well in terms of recovery,” added Breslow. “He’s doing really well, stronger, he’s put on some weight. He looks more physical.” The 22-year-old former top prospect, who underwent wrist surgery back in August, is the odds-on favorite to open next season as Boston’s starting third baseman assuming they’re unable to re-sign veteran Alex Bregman. He batted just .228/.272/.402 with four homers in 136 plate appearances over 44 games, but it’s simply too small of a sample to draw any firm conclusions, especially given his prospect pedigree. He’ll enter spring training at just 23 years old and represents an interesting buy-low candidate for fantasy managers in dynasty formats.
Konnor Griffin and Kevin McGonigle headline the next wave of prospects set to reach the majors in 2026.
