Occasional bumps and bruises are the cost of doing business behind the plate, but it’s an encouraging sign that the 21-year-old former top prospect has managed to avoid serious injury heading into the final week of the regular season.

The deal will presumably keep Howard in San Francisco for the upcoming 2024 campaign as a potential reclamation project. The 27-year-old former top prospect was cut loose last month by the Yankees after a handful of appearances at the Triple-A level. He’s made just three relief appearances this season in the majors for the Rangers before being dealt to New York at the trade deadline.
