According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Alek Manoah has received multiple injections to his pitching arm in recent weeks and is officially shut down for the season.
We knew that Manoah’s season was essentially over when Blue Jays manager John Schneider said in early September that he was not ready to compete, but the news that Manoah has received multiple injections in recent weeks is new. Team doctors reportedly found no structural issues in Manoah’s arm, but the 25-year-old has continued meeting with additional specialists in the last month in the hopes of ruling out elbow and shoulder issues as well as Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Those are obviously some worst-case scenario outlooks for the right-hander, so this is a situation to monitor.
