Ryan Helsley allowed one run over 1 1/3 innings on Saturday in a blown save against the Padres.
Helsley came on to put out an eighth-inning fire by picking Ha-Seong Kim off second base to end the frame, but was unable to put out a ninth-inning fire after walking three straight batters to open the frame. He got Xander Bogaerts to ground into a force out, which pushed the tying run across the plate, before striking out Fernando Tatis Jr. and Juan Soto to send the contest to extra innings. It was his fifth blown save of the season, but it could’ve ended up a lot worse, all things considered.
