Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said the organization in leaning towards going with 22-year-old Marco Luciano at shortstop next season
It doesn’t sound like they’re fully committed to that, but at the same time, shortstop presumably won’t be a priority in free agency. Luciano hit .223/.334/442 in 74 minor league games, most of them coming in Double-A, and .231/.333/.308 in 14 major league games this year. He tends to hit the ball very hard, but he too often does it on the ground, and he strikes out a lot. He also wouldn’t excel on defense. Another year in the minor might benefit him.
