Royce Lewis clubbed a pair of home runs in his first career postseason game on Tuesday, powering the Twins to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series.
Edouard Julien worked a walk to start the home half of the first inning, then Lewis tagged right-hander Kevin Gausman for a 386-foot two-run blast to give the Twins an early 2-0 edge. He then smashed an opposite-field 397-foot shot in the third inning to make it a 3-0 ballgame. The 24-year-old phenom — playing in his first game in nearly two weeks — became the second player in Twins’ franchise history to have a multi-homer game in the postseason, joining Gary Gaetti from the 1987 ALCS. Lewis also drew a walk in the fifth inning, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances in the ballgame. The Twins will look to close out the Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon in Minnesota.
