While the immediate reaction to this news might be to assume that Alonso is preparing to make a big splash in free agency after the upcoming season, that might not be the case. Boras has also negotiated long-term extensions before hitting free agency for players like Jose Altuve, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Gomez, and Stephen Strasburg. Brandon Nimmo also hired Scott Boras in January of 2022 and then signed with the Mets in December of 2022, so if Pete Alonso wants to stay with the Mets, and the Mets want him to stay, this move shouldn’t impact that.

Shuster does not have to report and can elect free agency if he chooses. He’d allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings with the Cardinals. The 27-year-old was released by the Athletics this offseason and probably will need to earn another major league chance, be it with the Cardinals or someone else.

He should run the bases next week in Florida. It’s hard to tell exactly how bad Triolo’s injury is from the outside, but it sounds like he’s at least a few weeks from being a candidate to be activated. Assuming everything goes right in his rehab, that is.

They’re reportedly targeting a return for Springer when they get back to Toronto next week. Springer has yet to run on the injury, but should make his comeback to the top of the lineup shortly. Springer was off to a .185/.290/.370 start with two homers and a stolen base before getting injured last Saturday.

This is a procedural move to clear a spot for Richard Lovelady on the 40-man roster. Waldichuk is gathering a second opinion to try and avoid undergoing Tommy John surgery, but even if he does avoid it, he’ll be out for a majority of the season.

Against LHP Jacob Lopez, Seager gets a rest day. He homered yesterday and is off to a .203/.321/.453 start in his first 78 plate appearances this year. Ezequiel Duran will cover at shortstop this afternoon.

Jordan Leasure will open, but LHP Anthony Kay will be the bulk for the White Sox. Aranda has slumped over his last five games, going just 2-for-18 with 4 RBI. He remains a solid 1B option in deeper leagues.

He’ll get a rare game off against LHP Patrick Corbin, with Greg Jones handling left field and batting seventh. Frelick is off to a .179/.303/.268 start, with just one stolen base and one homer so far. His performance probably has him as a fringe option in 12-team leagues at this point, but his .288 batting average and 19 stolen bases in 2025 are reasons to hold through the slow start.

He had missed the last five games with the injury. Brandon Valenzuela will take a seat on Thursday for some well-deserved rest after covering several games in a row. Heineman is only a fantasy factor in the deepest of leagues, but it’s good to see that he was apparently able to avoid the injured list.
