Mariners signed C Mitch Garver to a two-year, $24 million contract with a mutual option for 2026.
Garver, who hit .270/.370/.500 for the Rangers last season, is set to serve as the Mariners’ primary designated hitter, and it’s unclear how much catching he’ll do; he’s well equipped to start behind the plate once or twice per week when Cal Raleigh is resting or at DH, but the Mariners could have Seby Zavala handle those duties. It would have been better for Garver’s fantasy value had he landed in another ballpark, but at least he stands a better chance of staying healthy while being asked to do so little catching.
