Taylor hasn’t pitched in a Cactus League contest since March 12 after suffering a left biceps injury last weekend while warming up. The 31-year-old lefty seems highly likely to open the season on the injured list.

The Rays are planning on putting Jake Fraley on the injured list with a hernia.

Fraley was scratched from Saturday’s lineup with an undisclosed injury. Jacob Melton is hurt in Triple-A, so Carson Williams might be the choice to replace Fraley on the Tampa Bay roster. Richie Palacios, who has been mostly starting at second base, could move to right field to replace Fraley, opening up infield starts for Williams and Ben Williamson.

Angel Martínez hit a two-run homer, doubled and scored three times Saturday in the Guardians’ 7-4 defeat of the Reds.

Martínez’s homer off Pierce Johnson in the seventh gave the Guardians a 6-4 lead. He’s homered three times in four games to up his season line to .266/.313/.496. Martínez wasn’t the choice to step into the leadoff spot against a righty after Steven Kwan’s demotion tonight, but at least he’s staying in the lineup, and he’ll probably hit first or second against lefties. He’s a solid choice in mixed leagues right now.

Joey Cantillo

CLE Starting Pitcher #54

Joey Cantillo surrendered four runs in five innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Reds.

Three of the runs came in the fifth, which started with a bunt single, a sac bunt and then walks to three of the next four batters. Spencer Steer followed with a two-run double on which Sal Stewart was thrown out at home to the inning. That ended Cantillo’s evening at 87 pitches. He has a nice 3.40 ERA, but he has gone six innings just twice all year. He also has an ugly 11/11 K/BB in four starts this month after coming in at 34/13 in his first six outings. He’ll face the Tigers next week.

Cade Smith

CLE Relief Pitcher #36

Cade Smith worked a hitless ninth for his 14th save Saturday against the Reds.

Smith walked a batter tonight for the first time since Apr. 21, but he retired the other three, striking out two. He is tied with Mason Miller for the major league lead with 14 saves.

Chris Paddack

CIN Starting Pitcher #56

Chris Paddack pitched five innings of two-run ball against the Guardians in his Reds debut Saturday.

Paddack left with a two-run lead, but that didn’t survive the sixth. He finished the outing with three strikeouts and one walk. He gave up six hits but actually just two hard-hit balls, so this was a stronger performance than any he had before being released by the Marlins. We’d still stay far away from in fantasy leagues. He’ll probably start against the Cardinals next weekend.

Pierce Johnson

CIN Relief Pitcher #52

Pierce Johnson gave up a homer and a walk while facing three batters Saturday against the Guardians.

Johnson worked in the sixth last night and came into a tie game in the seventh tonight before leaving with Reds down two. So, it’s clear Terry Francona has little interest in saving him for the ninth. Maybe he’ll pick up a couple of more saves anyway, but he doesn’t seem to be worth a roster spot in mixed leagues right now.

José Ramírez

CLE 3rd Baseman #11

José Ramírez went 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases Saturday, bringing his season steal total to 20.

Ramírez is batting just .227/.353/.384, but he’s now the major league leader with 20 steals, overtaking the Nationals’ Nasim Nuñez. It seems like he’s gunning to set a new career high for the third year in a row after finishing at 41 in 2024 and 44 last season.

Gerrit Cole

NYY Starting Pitcher #45

Gerrit Cole allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings and struck out six for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Cole’s sixth minor league rehab start saw him throw 86 pitches and walk one batter. He averaged 97.0 mph with his fastball, which is 1.1 mph better than when he was last seen in 2024. It sure seems like he would have been fine to rejoin the rotation this weekend had the Yankees wanted him to. As is, though, he’s slated to make a seventh rehab start next week before being activated.

Carlos Cortes

ATH Right Fielder #26
Carlos Cortes is on the bench for a second straight game Saturday to make room for Henry Bolte in the A’s lineup.

Cortes has cooled off of late, but he’s still hitting .343/.400/.556 overall with just 10 strikeouts and fine EV numbers in 110 plate appearances. He has about 300 points of OPS on Tyler Soderstrom and 400 points on Lawrence Butler, the two guys flanking Bolte in center tonight. What he doesn’t have, however, is a long-term contract guaranteed through 2031 or ’32.

Jose Trevino

CIN Catcher #35

Jose Trevino left Saturday’s game because of a left hamstring problem.

Tyler Stephenson pinch-hit for him in the sixth inning. Trevino served an IL stint last month for a back strain. If he returns to the IL, the Reds could look to bring back P.J. Higgins, who was just DFA’d, or call up Will Banfield.
