  • CLE Relief Pitcher #46
Guardians designated RHP Tyler Beede for assignment.
The 30-year-old right-hander seemingly pitched himself out of a job on Thursday night, giving up five runs on three hits and a pair of walks while recording only one out against the Astros. Overall, he posted an 8.36 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and an 18/9 K/BB ratio over 14 innings with the Guardians. There’s a chance that another club could take a shot at him on waivers.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #32
Reds placed LHP Justin Wilson on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder tightness.
The 36-year-old southpaw has seen plenty of action out of the Reds’ bullpen this season, posting an underwhelming 5.91 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 14/2 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings in his 16 appearances. It’s not yet clear how long he’s expected to be shelved for. Carson Spiers was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move to replace Wilson in the Reds’ bullpen.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #68
Reds recalled RHP Carson Spiers from Triple-A Louisville.
With Justin Wilson (shoulder) heading to the injured list on Friday, the Reds needed to replace him in their bullpen and Spiers will get the call. The 26-year-old hurler has made just one appearance at the big league level this season, posting a 6.75 ERA, 2.50 WHIP and a 1/3 K/BB ratio over four innings. He’ll function in the middle innings for Reds’ skipper David Bell.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #57
Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.
He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut. Don’t expect to see him on a big league mound before the end of June.
  • ARI Center Fielder #5
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Alek Thomas (hamstring) is making progress and will ramp up his baseball activities soon.
Thomas had been days away from a potential return from the injured list when he suffered a setback and experienced renewed discomfort in his left hamstring. There’s no clear timetable for his return at the moment, but it seems likely that he’ll require a minor league rehab assignment before he does come back.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #18
Kenta Maeda (illness) will make a minor league rehab start at Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
It remains unclear whether or not he’ll require any additional rehab outings after that first one to get back into the swing of things. Maeda has been disastrous in his first season with the Tigers so far, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 23/10 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings through his first seven starts.
  • TB Second Baseman #8
Brandon Lowe (oblique) could be activated from the injured list and return to the Rays’ lineup on Monday.
The 29-year-old slugger will restart his minor league rehab assignment on Saturday and is set to play games on back-to-back days at Triple-A Durham. If all goes well with that, he’ll be cleared to rejoin the Rays for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox. Lowe has been close to returning before, only to suffer a setback and require some extra time, so we’ll believe it when we see it.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #64
Dodgers optioned LHP Nick Ramirez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The left-hander lasted just one day on the big league roster this time around, giving up three runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 2 1/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday. Ricky Vanasco was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Friday to replace him in the Dodgers’ bullpen.
  • LAD Third Baseman #27
Dodgers recalled INF/OF Miguel Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
While the versatile 24-year-old saw most of his action in left field at the Triple-A level, the Dodgers have a sudden need at third base with Max Muncy (oblique) landing on the injured list on Friday. Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday however that Vargas will play left field while he’s with the big league club. Enrique Hernandez is starting at third base on Friday night and could wind up seeing additional action there.
  • LAD Third Baseman #13
Dodgers placed INF Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
Well that certainly came out of nowhere. The 33-year-old slugger has been a very capable run-producer in the middle of the Dodgers’ lineup this season — slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine homers and 28 RBI through his first 40 games He’s going to miss at least a couple of weeks — and it could wind up being longer depending on the severity of the strain. Miguel Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Friday.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #61
Dodgers recalled RHP Ricky Vanasco from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
After a bullpen game from the Dodgers on Thursday night, the team wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen mix on Friday and Vanasco was the choice. The 25-year-old hurler has retired all six batters that he has faced with the Dodgers this season across two perfect innings. He’ll function in middle relief.
