  • SD Outfielder
Craig Mish of Sportsgrid reports that the Marlins will receive Dillon Head, Woo Suk-Go and Nathan Martorella from the Padres in return for Luis Arraez.
Head is the prize for the Marlins in the trade. The 19-year-old outfielder was the Padres’ first-round selection (25th overall) from the 2023 draft. He’s at least a couple of years away from helping out at the big league level but projects as an impact five-category contributor. Suk-Go should immediately step in and help in the big league bullpen. It’s unusual to see a team wave the white flag on the season in the first week of May, but nothing that the Marlins do should be that surprising anymore.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #19
The Diamondbacks will likely bypass Ryne Nelson and go with an opener in Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers.
Nelson was lit up for seven runs by the Tigers last time out, putting his spot in jeopardy, but when everything was quiet over the last few days, it seemed likely that he’d remain in the rotation. Instead, the Diamondbacks could either send him down or put him in the bullpen prior to Wednesday’s game.
  • ARI Left Fielder #3
Joc Pederson went 2-for-5 and hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning Tuesday as the Diamondbacks defeated the Dodgers 7-3.
Arizona was up 4-3 when Pederson homered off Michael Grove to put the game away. It was Pederson’s sixth homer. He hasn’t been a huge fantasy factor while sitting against lefties and stealing one base to date, but his .321/.418/.571 line is extremely impressive.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #32
Brandon Pfaadt yielded three runs — two earned — over six innings and struck out seven in a victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Pfaadt, who has had some hard luck with the Diamondbacks struggling to put runs on the board, won for the first time since his season-opening start against the Rockies on March 31. This is his sixth quality start, which doesn’t count that initial win; he allowed one run over five innings in that one.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #35
Gavin Stone lost to the Diamondbacks after allowing four runs in six innings on Tuesday.
Stone came up a little short of delivering a fifth straight quality start and took his first loss since April 7. He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out five in falling to 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA. Stone might get a two-start week against the Mets and Rockies next week, which would make him a great play in shallow leagues.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández finished 0-for-4 in the loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Hernández got a visit from the trainer after hurting his ankle while fielding a single in the second inning tonight, but he was able to finish the game without incident. His average dropped to .242 tonight, as he’s gone 7-for-39 with 13 strikeouts in his last 10 games.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Abraham Toro hit a go-ahead homer in the bottom of the eighth Tuesday as the A’s came back to defeat the Rockies 5-4.
Toro’s blast came after Seth Brown tied the game with a two-run homer in the seventh. Toro, who was supposed to become a reserve due to the J.D. Davis acquisition at the end of the spring, has won back his job by hitting .294/.344/.459 in 183 plate appearances. His current .341 BABIP is more than 100 points higher than his .229 mark over his first five seasons.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #53
Aaron Brooks gave the A’s another quality start by allowing three runs in six innings Tuesday at home against the Rockies.
This is definitely pushing the boundaries of the quality start; not only did he do the bare minimum in allowing three runs in six innings, but he was doing so against the road-team version of the Rockies in a strong pitcher’s park in Oakland. Still, he gave the A’s a chance to win, and they did so by scoring three runs off the Rockies pen. Brooks should remain in the rotation and face the Astros next.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #19
Mason Miller struck out all three batters he faced Tuesday against the Rockies for his first save of the month.
Miller earned eight saves from Apr. 9-30, but the A’s hadn’t had any save situations for him since. Given that he also pitched Sunday, it’s possible he’ll now require Wednesday off. The A’s have allowed him to pitch on consecutive days twice, but they haven’t had him work three times in four days. That it’s a day game Wednesday doesn’t help.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #47
Cal Quantrill yielded two runs in six innings and struck out eight against the A’s on Tuesday.
The Rockies ought to be shopping Quantrill now; it’s hard to imagine he’ll have more trade value at the deadline than he does currently with his 3.59 ERA and a 44/21 K/BB ratio in 57 2/3 innings. That 18.6% K rate is a huge improvement over last year’s mark of 13.1% with Cleveland.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #61
Justin Lawrence took a blown save in the seventh after giving up a two-run homer to Oakland’s Seth Brown on Tuesday.
Jalen Beeks’ hold on the closer’s role in Colorado got a little stronger tonight. Lawrence, who has been dealing with an inflated ERA since giving up four earned runs in his second outing of the season, had been pitching well in amassing a 1.08 ERA this month. Still, he really needs to cut down on the walks; he’s issued 12 in 19 1/3 innings this season.
