Kodai Senga (back, arm) will make a minor league rehab start on Thursday for Double-A Binghamton.

Senga was scratched from a rehab start earlier this week with nerve irritation. It wound up being a relatively minor setback since he’s been cleared to take the ball just a few days later. The 33-year-old remains without a definitive return timetable to rejoin New York’s pitching mix, but he’s presumably getting close.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Will Smith (neck) is headed to the injured list.

Dalton Rushing will handle the catching duties for Los Angeles with Chuckie Robinson coming up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Smith’s roster spot ahead of Thursday’s series finale in Pittsburgh. The 31-year-old backstop has missed four straight games due to neck stiffness. The move will be backdated a couple days, which means Smith should return at some point next week.

Jared Jones

PIT Starting Pitcher #17

Jared Jones received a no-decision on Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs on three hits over four innings pitched.

Jones struck out four and walked one. He was pulled after 75 pitches for bulk reliever Carmen Mlodzinski. Jones has yet to throw more than 77 pitches or complete more than five innings in any of his three starts since returning from elbow surgery. It’s likely out of an abundance of caution for the 24-year-old righty. He has another tough matchup next time out against the A’s in Sacramento.

Shohei Ohtani

LAD Starting Pitcher #17

Shohei Ohtani threw a quality start on Wednesday against the Pirates, allowing three earned runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings pitched.

Ohtani struck out six and walked three while receiving a no-decision. He later homered in the top of the ninth to cut the Dodgers’ deficit to one, but it was too little too late. He now has a microscopic 1.06 ERA. Wednesday’s start was the first time this season he allowed more than two earned runs. He’ll aim to continue one of the best pitching stretches of his career with a home start against the Rays next time out.

Gregory Soto

PIT Relief Pitcher #31

Gregory Soto allowed two runs in the ninth, but held on to secure the save in Wednesday’s 9-8 win over the Dodgers.

Soto surrendered a two-run blast to Shohei Ohtani that cut the lead to one, but he made it through the inning otherwise unscathed. The veteran lefty has fully taken over the closer role in Pittsburgh, securing each of their past eight saves that weren’t of the three-inning variety. Dennis Santana hasn’t recorded a save since April 15. The Pirates might look to upgrade their bullpen at the trade deadline, but Soto’s role should be safe for now.

Spencer Horwitz

PIT 1st Baseman #2

Spencer Horwitz went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer as the Pirates defeated the Dodgers 9-8 on Wednesday evening.

Horwitz’s homer notably came off left-hander Jack Dreyer, a two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth that gave Pittsburgh a couple of insurance runs they ended up needing. The lefty-swinging first baseman doesn’t start against every southpaw, but he isn’t a strict platoon hitter and bats leadoff against righties.

Tyler Callihan

PIT Left Fielder #37

Tyler Callihan went 2-for-2 with two homers, two walks, four RBI, and three runs scored as the Pirates beat the Dodgers 9-8 on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was appearing in just his 11th career game, with the long balls the first he has hit at the big league level. The first one went entirely out of the ballpark and came off Shohei Ohtani, which makes for quite the memorable blast. Callihan is off the fantasy radar despite the big game.

Ryan Ward

LAD Left Fielder #67

Ryan Ward clubbed a grand slam in the sixth inning as the Dodgers fell to the Pirates 9-8 on Wednesday.

Ward’s round-tripper came off Carmen Mlodzinski, handing Los Angeles a 6-1 lead the bullpen would later surrender. He has started in left field against seven of nine right-handers since being recalled from Triple-A. Ward has sat against three lefties, however, as he is currently in a strict platoon with Alex Call.

Joc Pederson

TEX Designated Hitter #3
Joc Pederson was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Royals with left hip discomfort.

Pederson was replaced by Jake Burger at DH in the fifth inning after going 0-for-1 with a walk. The streaky 34-year-old slugger will undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the issue and whether he’ll need a trip to the injured list. There should be an update on his status prior to Thursday’s series finale.

Keegan Thompson

COL Relief Pitcher #34

Rockies sent RHP Keegan Thompson outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Thompson will stick around as organizational depth for the Rockies after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old posted a bloated 8.25 ERA across 12 innings for Colorado before being designated for assignment earlier this week.
