Mariners acquired INF Justin Turner and cash considerations from the Blue Jays for OF RJ Schreck.

Turner brings a .254/.349/.371 line with him to Seattle. Odds are that he’ll fare a little worse while playing half of his games in arguably baseball’s toughest ballpark for hitters, but we’ll see. He’ll serve as a first baseman and DH for the Mariners. Jason Vosler, Tyler Locklear and Mitch Garver might all have to fight it out for time the other spot. That’s bad for Garver, but he will remain the team’s backup catcher.

Josue De Paula is starting as the DH and batting ninth on Monday against the Reds.

Nick Lodolo is on the mound for the Reds, so De Paula moves down to ninth in the order, but it’s nice to see that he will remain in the lineup, even against lefties. He hit .267 off lefties in Double-A, but had just eight extra-base hits all season, so we’ll watch closely to see how he handles Major League lefties.
Devers' season ends early with core muscle injury
Rafael Devers was placed on the 60-day injured list with a core muscle injury, ending the Giants slugger's season early in the middle of an offensive tear.

Samuel Basallo is not in the starting lineup against the Mets on Monday.

Basallo has been struggling with the bat over the final month of the season as he attempts to play through a shoulder injury. With both Coby Mayo and Christian Encarnacion-Strand hitting well, there are no DH at-bats for Basallo, so he has simply been playing every other day as a catcher. That makes him hard to trust in fantasy leagues. Carlos Narvaez will catch and hit ninth on Monday.

Angel Genao is out of the lineup on Monday against the White Sox.

Genao has now sat versus each of the last two left-handed starters. The 22-year-old is slashing .236/.300/.327 in 120 plate appearances for the Guardians with just six RBI, two home runs, and one steal. He does not need to be held in redraft fantasy leagues. Travis Bazzana will start at second base, with Angel Martinez in left field and Chase DeLauter at DH.

Devin Williams (shoulder) will throw a live bullpen on Thursday and “doesn’t anticipate needing a rehab assignment.”

Williams, who has been out since August 10th with a shoulder strain, threw off a mound on Monday at Citi Field. He will do so again on Thursday against live hitters and “could come off the injured list as soon as this weekend if all continues to go well.” Given how long he has missed and how poorly he was pitching before getting hurt, we wouldn’t be rushing to add him in fantasy leagues for the final week of the season.

Padres optioned INF Mason McCoy to Triple-A El Paso

McCoy was up with Ty France landing on the Paternity list. He didn’t appear in any of the games over the weekend.

Padres activated 1B Ty France from the paternity list.

France missed the weekend series against the Giants. He should return to his regular starting role for the Padres.

Royals optioned RHP Easton McGee to Triple-A Omaha

McGee has a 7.15 ERA in 11 1/3 innings split between the Brewers and Royals this season. We may not see him pitch MLB innings again this year.

Royals recalled RHP Lucas Erceg from Triple-A Omaha

Erceg was demoted to Triple-A back on August 18th after a rough few weeks. He posted a 1.74 ERA and 13/3 K/BB ratio in 10 1/3 innings in Triple-A, so perhaps he figured something out. We still wouldn’t trust him for fantasy.

Braves re-signed RHP Elieser Hernández to a minor league contract.

Color us shocked. The 31-year-old has been designated for assignment and re-signed a few times now, and the dance will likely continue through the end of the season.

Braves designated LHP Bailey Falter for assignment.

Falter threw 3 1/3 shutout innings for the Braves, allowing just two hits and striking out two batters. We anticipate that this is simply a move to bring a fresh arm up into their bullpen, and Falter could quickly be re-signed to a minor league contract.
