Gregory Santos is fully healthy and will enter spring training without any limitations.
Santos was limited to just eight late-season relief appearances last year during his Seattle debut due to lat and biceps issues. It’s a positive sign that the 25-year-old righty is feeling healthy in the lead up to spring training and he should help bolster the Mariners’ high-leverage mix behind incumbent closer Andrés Muñoz.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #30

Diamondbacks re-signed RHP Scott McGough to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
McGough returns to the fold with Arizona as extra relief depth just a few months after the club declined his $4 million club option for 2025. The 35-year-old journeyman struggled to a bloated 7.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 25/21 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings (26 appearances, two starts) this season for the Diamondbacks. He’ll most likely head to Triple-A Reno as emergency depth at the conclusion of spring training.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #37
Diamondbacks signed RHP John Curtiss to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Curtiss latches on with Arizona as extra organizational relief depth entering spring training after making three appearances last year for the NL West division-rival Rockies. The 31-year-old journeyman righty has made 94 appearances (five starts) in the majors dating back to 2017. He’ll most likely wind up at Triple-A Reno as emergency depth.
  • SD Right Fielder #22
Padres signed OF Jason Heyward to a one-year, $1 million contract.
The deal, which includes an additional $250,000 in performance-related bonuses, is now official. Heyward heads to San Diego to help shore up their glaring lack of corner outfield depth. He’ll compete with Connor Joe and prospect Tirso Ornelas for at-bats between left field and DH. The 35-year-old veteran’s days as a fantasy-relevant contributor are probably in the rearview mirror, but he represents a legitimate upgrade for the Padres. He bounced around last year between the Dodgers and Astros, batting .211/.288/.412 with 10 homers and five steals across 258 plate appearances over 87 games.
  • FA Center Fielder #18
FanSided’s Robert Murray reports the White Sox are signing Michael A. Taylor.
No word yet on the financial terms. Taylor remains a strong defender in center field, but offers next to nothing at the dish after batting .193/.253/.290 with five homers and 12 steals across 300 plate appearances last year for the Pirates. The 33-year-old can be safely ignored in most fantasy formats, but his presence should help Chicago’s pitching staff by tracking down a few extra fly balls.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #31
Marlins claimed RHP Ronny Hendriquez off waivers from the Twins.
Henriquez heads to Miami as a middle relief depth option after being designated for assignment last week by the Twins where he made 19 appearances (one start) in the big leagues dating back to 2022. The 24-year-old righty holds an 18.2 percent strikeout rate across 19 1/3 frames at the highest level and represents a worthwhile gamble for the rebuilding Marlins.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #49
Marlins designated RHP Xzavion Curry for assignment.
Curry offers some appeal as a versatile swingman at the highest level, but has struggled to a pedestrian 4.35 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 15.7 percent strikeout rate across 147 innings (59 appearances, 16 starts) between the Marlins and Guardians since 2022. The 26-year-old righty has a decent shot at passing through waivers unclaimed and remaining with Miami as extra organizational relief depth.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher
Cade Horton (lat) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions.
Horton appears to be throwing without any restrictions this spring after being shut down last June with a season-ending lat strain after just nine starts between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. The 23-year-old was considered one of the upper-echelon pitching prospects in the game entering last year and should be ready to make his Chicago debut at some point later this summer, if he manages to stay healthy. His stock figures to rise exponentially in the early stages of the year if he’s missing bats at Triple-A Iowa.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #21
Jackson Jobe has added a curveball and sinker.
Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press adds that Jobe’s pitch mix evolution is geared towards generating additional whiffs in two-strike counts. The hard-throwing 22-year-old right-hander, who made a pair of late-season relief appearances last year for the Tigers, is arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball entering spring training and will presumably be in the mix for the final spot in Detroit’s season-opening rotation. He’s likely ticketed for some additional seasoning at Triple-A Toledo to open the year, especially if Casey Mize and Alex Cobb stay healthy this spring, but Jobe’s astronomical strikeout potential should make him an instant impact fantasy contributor once he ascends to the big leagues for good.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #31
Liam Hendriks, Aroldis Chapman, Justin Wilson, Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten are candidates to close for the Red Sox.
The five potential candidates were specifically highlighted by Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Tuesday at the outset of spring training, just a few hours after former stopper Kenley Jansen agreed to a one-year pact with the Angels. Hendriks and Chapman are the clear-cut favorites to secure Boston’s ninth-inning role given their extensive closing experience, but Slaten — who was outstanding last year as a Rule 5 selection — and Whitlock figure to be in the mix for high-leverage roles. Red Sox manager Alex Cora re-affirmed to reporters Tuesday that he would prefer a set closer as opposed to mixing and matching. If healthy, Hendriks seems like the logical choice to win the competition this spring, but he’s thrown just five innings in the big leagues over the past two seasons. It’s a developing situation fantasy managers should monitor once Grapefruit League action kicks off.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #54
Braves signed RHP Dylan Covey to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Covey was given an MLB deal from the Mets in October, but he elected free agency after being designated for assignment this winter. Covey will compete for a bullpen spot with Atlanta this spring.
