Hunter Renfroe went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI on Friday as the Royals dropped a heartbreaker to the Angels.
Renfroe drew a one-out walk in the third inning, advanced to third on a base hit and scampered home on a wild pitch with the Royals’ first run. He then delivered a two-run double as part of a six-run uprising in the sixth inning, unexpectedly swiped third base and scored on an RBI double by Nick Loftin. The 33-year-old slugger is hitting .263 (5-for-19) with a homer, four RBI and that one swipe so far this spring.

Angels claimed RHP Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Marlins.
Since the end of the season, Bido has been with the Athletics, Braves, Rays, Marlins, and Angels. We’ll see if it sticks this time. The 30-year-old has flashed some intriguing skills at times and could try to win a spot in the Angels’ rotation out of spring training, but we’d consider him a long shot.
What's in store for the Nationals without Gore?
Eric Samulski reveals the "names to know" among the five prospects the Nationals received from the Texas Rangers in exchange for pitcher MacKenzie Gore and his 'considerable upside.'

Rockies signed RHP Patrick Weigel to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Weigel spent 2025 with the Nationals, posting an 8.29 ERA in 33 2/3 innings with Triple-A Rochester. However, he then went to the Dominican Winter League and posted a 1.19 ERA with a 34/5 K/BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings. In his nine seasons in the minors, he has registered a 3.92 ERA in 523 2/3 innings, so he at least could serve as organizational depth for the Rockies.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #43
Royals signed RHP Aaron Sanchez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The contract would pay Sanchez $1.35 million if he makes the major league team, with incentives to earn more. It also includes an assignment clause and release clauses on April 15 and May 15. The 33-year-old is coming off a Dominican Winter League season in which he was named Pitcher of the Year after posting a 1.55 ERA in 46 1/3 innings. He has not pitched in the majors since 2022 and would seem most likely to make the Royals as a multi-inning reliever given the depth of their starting rotation.
  • FA Shortstop #25
The Red Sox have shown some interest in free agent Dylan Moore, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.
If the Red Sox don’t bring in a starting infielder, Moore would be an upgrade from Nate Eaton or switch-hitter Nick Sogard as a complement to Marcelo Mayer against lefties. Of course, if they did bring in a starter, then Romy Gonzalez, who currently projects as the starter at second base, would likely platoon with Mayer.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #50
Royals signed RHP Héctor Neris to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It’s that time of year when the veterans who were holding out for major league deals start taking their best minor league offer in hand. Neris wound up with a 6.75 ERA in 35 appearances for the Braves, Angels and Astros last season, but he still had a nice 28.2% strikeout rate in the process. The 36-year-old has 107 saves and a 3.47 ERA in 643 relief appearances since debuting with the Phillies in 2014.
  • STL Left Fielder #17
Cardinals signed OF Nelson Velázquez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Velázquez, who hit .212/.286/.433 with 31 homers in 615 plate appearances for the Cubs and Royals from 2022-24, bounced around all over the place last year. The Royals released him from their Triple-A roster in May, at which point he went to Mexico and hit .357/.444/.658 in 49 games. That earned him a minor league contract from the Pirates, and he hit .284/.349/.554 in 18 games at the end of the year for Triple-A Indianapolis. Since then, he’s spent time in both the Dominican and Puerto Rican Winter Leagues. He should have some chance of making the Cardinals as a right-handed platoon option in the outfield corners and at DH, assuming the team doesn’t bring in a veteran option for that role.
  • NYY Center Fielder #35
Yankees re-signed OF Cody Bellinger to a five-year, $162.5 million contract.
The move to open up a spot on the 40-man has not been announced, but it’ll probably be either Michael Siani or Marco Luciano going back on waivers. Bellinger gets a full no-trade clause and opt outs after the 2027 and ’28 seasons. The 30-year-old is likely to remain the Yankees’ primary left fielder, though he could play some center against lefties. He’s also still very capable at first base, but the Yankees didn’t like putting him there last year. He’ll probably hit second ahead of Aaron Judge or third behind him, setting him up nicely to remain a top-20 fantasy outfielder, even if he’s probably not quite as good as he was last season.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #41
Twins agreed to terms with RHP Joe Ryan on a one-year, $6.2 million contract with a mutual option for 2027.
Ryan will make $6.1 million this year and then get a $100,000 buyout of a $13 million mutual option for what will be his final year of arbitration in 2027. It’s a nice little win for Ryan, who had filed at $6.35 million. The Twins submitted a $5.85 million figure.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #52
Angels signed RHP Nick Sandlin to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
It’s a surprise that Sandlin couldn’t find an MLB deal. The 29-year-old had a 2.20 ERA in 16 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays last year and has a career 3.19 ERA in 211 2/3 innings out of the bullpen since debuting in 2021. He’s a good bet to make the Angels’ bullpen.
  • MIL Shortstop #90
According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Brewers INF prospect Jett Williams said that shortstop “will be his focus heading into spring training.”
Williams was just acquired from the Mets as part of the Freddy Peralta trade last week. The 22-year-old also has experience at second base and center field and is “pretty comfortable at all three positions now,” but he’ll begin his Brewers career playing shortstop. That means that current starting shortstop Joey Ortiz, who was also acquired for a pending free agent starting pitcher, is on notice. Williams hit .262/.363/.465 with 17 homers and 34 steals between Double- and Triple-A last year and could push for MLB at-bats if he gets off to a strong start in Triple-A.
