The Red Sox are sitting both Triston Casas and Wilyer Abreu versus Jays lefty Easton Lucas on Tuesday.
Alex Cora said last month that Casas would not be a platoon guy this year, yet he’s held out Casas out of the lineup both times the Red Sox have faced southpaws. It certainly has something to do with Casas’s slow start, but it just isn’t necessary; Casas actually has a higher career OPS against lefties than righties (.829 to .812), and Easton Lucas ain’t exactly Randy Johnson. Abreu, on the other hand, was supposed to be in a platoon with Rob Refnsyder, and his scorching start hasn’t changed that yet. Romy Gonzalez is starting over Casas tonight.
