Logan O’Hoppe was removed from the ninth inning of Monday’s game against the Yankees for precautionary reasons after being hit in the head by a backswing.
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters following O’Hoppe’s early exit that the 25-year-old backstop wants to play on Tuesday night, but they don’t want to take any chances and will evaluate him for a possible concussion. He was hit in the head on a swing by Yankees rookie Jorbit Vivas in the eighth inning before coming out of the game an inning later. He’s been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, hitting .308 (8-for-26) with four homers and seven RBI over his last seven games. There should be a definitive update on his status prior to Tuesday’s showdown in Los Angeles.
