Yankees re-signed INF Andrew Velazquez to a minor league contract.

Velazquez was with the Yankees back in spring training and has spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to being cut loose in early August. The 31-year-old journeyman infielder hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2023 campaign.

Dodgers optioned RHP Kyle Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Hurt has done a decent job in 43 appearances out of the Dodgers’ bullpen this season, compiling a 4.33 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 56/23 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings of work. Bobby Miller (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move to replace him on the Dodgers’ active roster.

Dodgers activated RHP Bobby Miller from the 60-day injured list.

After missing the entire season-to-date with shoulder soreness that cropped up during the spring, Miller is finally ready to debut with the Dodgers. He’ll be available out of the bullpen on Sunday and could wind up piggybacking with Justin Wrobleski.

Rockies selected the contract of INF Vimael Machin from Triple-A Albuquerque.

With Wilii Castro (foot) heading to the injured list on Saturday, Machin will get an opportunity to show the Rockies what he can do. The 32-year-old has hit an impressive .290/.371/.445 with 12 homers, 73 RBI and seven stolen bases in 488 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque this season.

Rockies placed INF/OF Willi Castro on the 10-day injured list with plantar fasciitis.

Castro had missed each of the team’s previous three games due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot. With nothing left to play for this season, the Rockies will sit him down and make sure that he gets right. Vimael Machin was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place on the Rockies’ active roster.

Athletics recalled RHP Seth Johnson from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old hurler has made 21 appearances at the MLB level between the Phillies and A’s this season, compiling an uninspiring 7.29 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 26/17 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. He’ll give A’s skipper Mark Kotsay another option to use in the middle innings.

Athletics optioned RHP Kade Morris to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Morris struggled in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday, giving up five runs in just 2 1/3 innings of work. Since he wasn’t going to be available again for at least a few days, the A’s shipped him out to add a fresh arm to their bullpen in Seth Johnson.

The Blue Jays plan to get a second opinion on right-hander Jameson Taillon’s (elbow) MRI results.

While they haven’t confirmed anything yet, it certainly sounds like Taillon is going to miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to inflammation in his pitching elbow. Expect confirmation to come before the weekend is through.

Joe Ryan (glute) threw a bullpen session on Saturday without any issues.

The expectation now is that the 30-year-old hurler will be cleared to rejoin the Twins’ rotation this week. Ryan threw just 42 pitches in a minor league rehab game at Triple-A St. Paul this week, so he may have a pitch count limitation in his first start back, but it sure sounds like his next start will be with the Twins.

Shohei Othani (knee, biceps) remains out of the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Nationals.

It’s the third straight game that Ohtani has missed due to lingering knee and biceps issues. The Dodgers are reportedly still weighing whether or not the 32-year-old superstar will require a trip to the injured list. Dalton Rushing will function as the team’s designated hitter on Saturday and will bat seventh against Nationals’ right-hander Cade Cavalli.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup for Saturday’s matchup against the Padres.

With left-hander Robbie Ray taking the mound for the Padres, the Yankees will give Chisholm a well-deserved night off in this one. Amed Rosario will start in his place at second base and will bat third for the Bombers on Saturday evening in San Diego.
