Reese McGuire hit his second career grand slam and had a sac fly Saturday against the Angels.
McGuire’s 389-foot shot to right-center would have been a homer in just five ballparks, but it proved sufficient in Wrigley. It’s his second career grand slam, and it gave him his third career five-RBI game. He’ll still likely return to the bench in favor of Carson Kelly on Sunday.

Carlos Rodón (elbow) threw an inning of live batting practice on Monday without any issues.
It’s the first time that the 33-year-old southpaw has faced live hitters since undergoing surgery to shave a bone spur and remove loose bodies from his elbow. It’s possible that he could make it into a Grapefruit League game before the end of the spring and he remains on track to rejoin the Yankees’ rotation at the end of April.
Pitchers to watch in fantasy draft early rounds
Eric Samulski and James Schiano provide drafting tips for fantasy baseball managers in the market for star pitchers and reveal which pitcher should be passed over in the first round.
  • STL Right Fielder #22
Cardinals optioned OF Joshua Baez and LHPs Cooper Hjerpe, Nick Raquet and Brycen Mautz to Triple-A Memphis; Reassigned LHP Quinn Mathews to minor league camp.
Baez made a major statement this spring, slashing .333/.417/.762 with three homers, five RBI and a 6/2 K/BB ratio in 24 plate appearances, leading fantasy managers to clamor for his inclusion on Cardinals’ Opening Day roster. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. He should debut at some point during the 2026 campaign, but that makes him a difficult stash in mixed leagues to begin the season.
  • HOU Outfield
Astros reassigned OF Lucas Spence and C Walker Janek to minor league camp.
Nothing to see here as neither player was ever going to be a serious candidate to make the Astros’ Opening Day roster. Spence, 23, slashed .244/.368/.403 with 10 homers, 55 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 509 plate appearances across three minor league levels in 2025, finishing up at Double-A Corpus Christi.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #43
Brewers’ right-hander Logan Henderson has been dealing with mild soreness in his right elbow.
The 24-year-old hurler missed time during the second half of the 2025 season due to inflammation in his elbow, so this is certainly a situation that fantasy mangers should be monitoring even after Henderson reported feeling improvement on Monday. He has been rising up fantasy draft boards in recent weeks, so perhaps this injury news will slow that trend.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #33
The Braves announced that Joey Wentz was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the entire 2026 season.
There had been optimism after initial tests that the 28-year-old hurler was going to be able to avoid significant injury, but unfortunately that’s not the case. The Braves will now have to scramble to add depth to replace Wentz in their starting rotation mix. His injury could open the door for Bryce Elder to secure the fifth spot in the team’s Opening Day rotation.
  • DET Shortstop #80
Kevin McGonigle went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Rays on Monday.
McGonigle laced a 391-foot home run that was 107.5 mph off the bat for his first spring home run. He had another batted ball over 100 mph on the day and is now slashing .350/.458/.700 this spring. He’s making a strong case to break camp with the Tigers as their starting third baseman, where he played today, or, more likely, their starting shortstop. Given his prospect pedigree, he could be going inside the top 200 picks and rising as he continues to produce.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton (elbow) returned to the starting lineup for Team USA’s showdown against Mexico on Monday.
Buxton was removed from Friday’s contest against Brazil after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. He’s perfectly fine though and will be back in there for Monday’s critical showdown against Mexico.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #59
Framber Valdez allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in four innings against the Rays on Monday, while striking out six and walking nobody.
The left-hander posted a 23 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW while throwing 74 percent strikes. His curveball was in the zone often and also missing bats, and that’s a key for Framber since his success is so heavily tied to that one pitch. As long as his curve is on, he should continue to provide fantasy success.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #78
Pirates optioned RHPs Thomas Harrington, Brandan Bidois, Wilber Dotel and Antwone Kelly and OF Esmerlyn Valdez to Triple-A Indianapolis; Reassigned C Omar Alfonzo, RHP Khristian Curtis and OF/INF Mitch Jebb to minor league camp.
We’re still early enough in spring training that these large batches of cuts don’t usually come with any major surprises. Harrington pitched well in Grapefruit League action, posting a 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 2/3 K/BB ratio over six innings. He should get an opportunity with the Pirates at some point during the 2026 campaign.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #18
Shane McClanahan allowed three runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings against the Tigers on Monday.
The left-hander struck out three and walked one, but the key story here was that he sat 94.2 mph on his four-seam fastball. He was 93.8 mph in his spring debut, and there was talk that he was only throwing at about 80 percent. You would have hoped to have seen an uptick in velocity here, but he remains well below the 97 mph average that we saw from him prior to injury. He did get plenty of whiffs on his changeup, which is nice to see, but we’ll hope for a little upside in velocity in his next outing if we’re going to have faith that he can still be a high-end fantasy starter.
