After the Rangers took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, Phil Maton recorded the first out in the bottom of the inning and gave up a base hit before Armstrong was called on to close things out. He worked around another hit, striking out two batters to preserve the win and convert his ninth save of the season.

Nolan Schanuel

LAA 1st Baseman #18

Nolan Schanuel said he’s dealing with ankle tendinitis and is not sure how long he’ll be out yet.

Schanuel was placed on the injured list yesterday after leaving Saturday’s game with an aggravation to the injury. He has been dealing with it since early April, per his own account. We’ll see how Schanuel’s ankle recovers with rest — it sure seems like if he was playing through it earlier, it could eventually get to the point where he can play with it again — but he remains without a timetable.

Ryan Ward

LAD 1st Baseman #67

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reports INF/OF Ryan Ward will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

It’s a perfectly logical move in the wake of Teoscar Hernández’s upcoming placement on the injured list. Ward has hit .254/.379/.418 in 214 Triple-A plate appearances this year, but hit 36 homers last year at Oklahoma City. He’ll likely make up a platoon with Alex Call for the short term. Ward could be on the more active side of the platoon, giving him some short-term fantasy value in a good lineup to hit in.

Justin Steele

CHC Starting Pitcher #35

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Justin Steele (elbow) will not throw a ball for “multiple weeks” still and said it was “hard to put ... an accurate timetable” on his return.

While Cubs manager Counsell termed this as “good news,” it doesn’t sound like Steele has made much progress from April, when it was believed he would be out until after the All-Star break. At this point, his timeline might be closer to August. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues certainly don’t need to keep holding him at this rate.

Austin Martin

MIN Left Fielder #16
Austin Martin is not in Minnesota’s starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the White Sox.

It appears to be just a routine day off for Martin, who is sitting against White Sox RHP Davis Martin while Kody Clemens gets some reps in right field. Martin is hitting just .220/.270/.339 in his last 16 games as a (mostly) full-time starter after the Twins optioned out Matt Wallner.

Casey Mize

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch is not counting on Casey Mize (groin) to make his next start.

It’s reportedly the same injury that caused Mize to be placed on the injured list in late April. Mize didn’t think the injury was as severe as it was last time, but Hinch said he didn’t “really have a gut feeling” on how much time Mize would miss. It sounds like an return stint on the IL isn’t out of the question. Drew Anderson could be a short-term solution for the rotation.

Oswald Peraza

LAA 2nd Baseman #2
Oswald Peraza is not in Los Angeles’ starting lineup against the Tigers on Thursday.

Peraza had started the last five games, mostly against right-handed starters, at second base. Adam Frazier will pick up a start on a getaway day. Peraza is hitting .271/.340/.451 with six homers and five steals. He’s been a bit of a find as a reclamation project by the Angels so far this year.

Tayler Saucedo

LAA Relief Pitcher #55

Angels optioned LHP Tayler Saucedo to Triple-A Salt Lake.

It is Saucedo’s second return to Salt Lake this month as the Angels’ bullpen health has improved. Saucedo managed two holds and a 4.50 ERA in two innings. The 32-year-old holds a 4.82 ERA in 18 2/3 innings for Triple-A Salt Lake so far this year.

Drew Pomeranz

LAA Relief Pitcher #13

Angels activated LHP Drew Pomeranz from the 15-day injured list.

Pomeranz wound up doing the minimum 15-day stint after going down with elbow inflammation. With a 7.20 ERA in 15 innings before getting hurt, Pomeranz has a lot of improvement to find before becoming interesting in fantasy baseball.

Teoscar Hernández

LAD Left Fielder #37
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Teoscar Hernández (hamstring) will be placed on the injured list.

Hernández left last night’s game with a left hamstring strain and figures to miss multiple weeks. The 33-year-old corner outfielder had produced an .892 OPS in a resurgent May. Alex Call would figure to get more playing time going forward if Hernández’s injury doesn’t force the Dodgers into thinking about some of their better prospects, like James TIbbs III, who has a 1.028 OPS in Triple-A Oklahoma City with 12 home runs.
