Jimmy Herget, who threw 83 1/3 innings out of the Rockies’ pen last season, will be tried as a starting pitcher next spring.
The 32-year-old Herges hasn’t been a starter since his Junior year at the University of South Florida in 2015. The Reds made him a sixth-round pick that year and immediately moved him to the pen in the minors. He was outstanding for the Rockies last season, finishing with a 2.48 ERA and an 81/26 K/BB over 59 appearances. Even if the transition goes well, he certainly doesn’t figure to offer any fantasy value.
  • STL Shortstop #0

Masyn Winn (leg) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
Winn is getting some extra time off to rest and recover following an early exit fro, Friday’s game after being hit by a pitch just below his right knee. The 24-year-old shortstop has been diagnosed with a lower leg contusion and isn’t expected to require a lengthy absence. Thomas Saggese takes over at shortstop in his absence.
'No one can touch' Miller right now
James Schiano outlines just how impressive Mason Miller has been for the Padres.
  • DET Right Fielder #27
Tigers signed OF Tyler Gentry to a minor league contract.
Gentry was cut loose by Kansas City at the end of spring training after losing his spot on the club’s 40-man roster last July. The 27-year-old outfielder heads to Detroit as organizational depth. He got into three games for the Royals back in 2024 and hasn’t been back the big leagues ever since.
  • ATH Right Fielder #4
Lawrence Butler is in the leadoff spot for the second consecutive game on Saturday against the Mets.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay has decided to shake up his lineup card for this series with Butler leading off in back-to-back contests with an ice-cold Nick Kurtz hitting second. The move is an obvious plus for Butler, if it sticks, since it would lead to additional stolen base chances and opportunities to score more runs than being marooned at the bottom of the order. The 25-year-old power/speed combo threat is hitting .189 (7-for-37) with one homer, four RBI and one steal through 12 games. Hopefully this decision helps get both Butler and Kurtz going in the right direction.
  • ATL 3rd Baseman #37
Braves selected the contract of INF/OF Luke Williams from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Williams gets the call to provide some extra bench versatility for the Braves while starting center fielder Michael Harris II is away from the club on paternity leave for the next couple days.
  • ATL Center Fielder #23
Braves placed OF Michael Harris II on the paternity list.
Harris will be away from the club to be with his family on paternity leave for the next couple days. It’ll likely be Eli White and Mauricio Dubón handling center field in his absence.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #63
Braves transferred LHP Danny Young to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move frees up a spot on Atlanta’s 40-man roster. Young is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and is unlikely to be an option for Atlanta until the late stages of the season.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #62
Braves activated RHP Daysbel Hernández from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Hernández will remain on the doorstep of the majors as organizational relief depth after wrapping up a rehab assignment. The 29-year-old opened the season on the injured list recovering from a houlder issue that ended his season last September.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #45
MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart reports Tatsuya Imai has returned to Houston.
Not good. McTaggart adds that there is usually an injury concern, typically to be evaluated by team doctors, when a player leaves the club on a road trip. Nothing official from the club, but there should be an update shortly. Imai walked four batters, gave up a hit and also hit one batter, before being lifted after needing 37 pitches to record just one out during Friday’s meltdown start against the Mariners. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as they unfold.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #46
Mets selected the contract of RHP Craig Kimbrel from Triple-A Syracuse.
The move is now official. Kimbrel was in Mets camp as a non-roster invitee this spring and will arrive in New York prior to Saturday’s game against the Athletics after spending a couple weeks in the minors. The 37-year-old veteran figures to pitch in middle relief situation considering his days as a flame-throwing closer are long gone. He made 14 appearances between the Braves and Astros last year. His last big-league save, the 440th of his career, came with the Orioles back in 2024.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #55
Mets designated LHP Richard Lovelady for assignment.
Lovelady has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster to make room for Craig Kimbrel after allowing five runs over 7 1/3 innings of work this season. The 30-year-old lefty should attract some interest on waivers, but history tells us he eventually winds up back with the Mets down the line.
