Siani, 26, was designated for assignment by Atlanta after the team signed Mike Yastrzemski. The outfielder is a terrific defender, and he should be a late-inning option for Los Angeles in 2026 — assuming he sticks in the organization, of course.

He was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored before departing. The Cardinals are facing a lefty in Andrew Abbott on Sunday, so Nootbaar might get a day off, at least at the start.

Gordon Graceffo finished up the shutout, adding four more strikeouts. Pallante improved to 11-6 in 20 starts after finishing 6-15 last year. The eight strikeouts, one more than he had totaled in his previous three outings this month, matched his season high from a start against the Mariners in April. He’ll take a 3.77 ERA into his next outing, which will probably come Friday against the Blue Jays.

This was discouraging. Greene averaged just 97.2 mph with his fastball tonight. He was at 98.9 and 99.1 mph in his first two starts before slipping to 98.1 mph last week against the Rockies and losing another one mph tonight. This was the lowest he’s been since his final start of 2024. Last year, he never fell below 98.8 mph in his 19 starts. Greene ended up allowing eight hits and 11 hard-hit balls. He struck out just three. Maybe we’ll get some explanation for the diminished velocity, but there’s good reason for concern. He’s due to face the Pirates on Thursday.

It could have been an even better game, but his 106-mph liner in the fourth was hit right at TJ Friedl in center for an out. Herrera entered the night 7-for-51 with no extra-base hits and one RBI in his previous 13 games.

Marte had one nice liner tonight, but it was caught in center. He’s just not making very good contact for the most part, with a 27.6 percent hard-hit rate that’s down from 38 percent for his career. Given that the Reds didn’t seem to think much of him even at the start of the season, when there was more reason for optimism, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him traded at the deadline, even if he’s probably not someone contenders would pursue.

Young gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six. The 27-year-old right-hander left the game in the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead, but an Ozzie Albies home run in the eighth inning tied the score. Young lowered his ERA to 3.13 with another exceptional outing, though his 4.40 xFIP is a warning sign that he could be due for regression. He’s lined up to face the Phillies at home next weekend.

Busch’s two-run single in the sixth inning capped off a five-run inning and extended the Cubs’ lead to 8-0 in a game Chicago would eventually win 11-0. He’s hitting .245 with a .766 OPS and 56 RBI this season.

Crow-Armstrong’s home run was his 23rd of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Ron Marinaccio in the seventh inning. His stolen base was his 26th. After hitting a double and a home run on Friday night, Crow-Armstrong’s offensive domination continued against the Pirates on Saturday. He’s hitting .291 with a .934 OPS and 59 RBI.

Skenes gave up six hits, walked two and struck out 11. He fell to 9-9 with the loss. Skenes kept the Cubs off the scoreboard for the first four innings before running into trouble. After getting the first out of the fifth inning, four consecutive Cubs hits led to three runs. In the sixth inning, Skenes again retired the first batter before allowing two baserunners to reach. At that point, he was removed. Both runners came around to score as the Cubs would add five runs to extend their lead to 8-0. Skenes saw his ERA bump up to 3.65. He’s lined up to face the Reds on the road next Thursday.
