Nationals acquired RHP Luis Perales from the Red Sox for LHP Jake Bennett.
It’s an extremely rare prospect challenge trade as the Nationals ship out a talented southpaw on the cusp of the big leagues as a back-end starter in exchange for Perales, who boasts triple-digit velocity and sky-high upside if he stays healthy and improves his control. The flame-throwing 22-year-old righty looked sharp in the Arizona Fall League after being limited to just three appearances this season in the upper minors while recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery. If it all comes together, Perales has the raw stuff to become a legitimate impact arm for a rebuilding Nationals club.

Cade Horton hurled six scoreless frames in his final Cactus League start Sunday against the Brewers.
Horton is ending the spring on the right note. He followed a 10-strikeout performance Monday with this gem where he allowed just four hits and struck out three against zero walks. The 24-year-old doesn’t project as a fantasy ace, but it’s worth remembering that he was excellent in his rookie campaign in 2025, and a step up in 2026 is well within reach.
Who broke Dan Patrick's Sammy Sosa statue?
The I-Team is on the case to trace the culprit after Dan Patrick's Sammy Sosa statue was found in pieces at the Mancave.
  • TOR Right Fielder #12
Jesús Sánchez delivered a two-run homer and a two-run double as the Jays crushed the Rays 14-1 on Sunday.
The big finish here could prove important for Sánchez, who hasn’t really been promised anything in left field. That the Jays took on $6.8 million and gave up Joey Loperfido for him suggested that he’d be a starter against righties, but Nathan Lukes was fairly valuable in that role last year and has outhit Sánchez this spring. It still seems like Sánchez should have the role initially, but we’ll see; even if he does, his margin for error might be pretty slim.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #84
Dylan Cease pitched five shutout innings and struck out six versus the Rays on Sunday.
Because he was lined up to throw on a couple of the Jays’ off days, Cease ends the spring with just 9 2/3 innings pitched, but he did well to allow only one run and strike out 12. He’s right where he needs to be ahead of his official Blue Jays debut against the A’s on Saturday.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #28
Nick Martinez was torched for 11 runs and three homers while getting 11 outs against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Martinez did not make a good first impression with the Rays by going 0-4 with a 14.49 ERA this spring, but there still shouldn’t be any doubt about his rotation status. Martinez’s velocity was down a bit today and he went without a strikeout, but the Jays’ 43% hard-hit rate (10 of his 23 balls in play) isn’t going to produce this sort of massacre most nights. Since nothing here really matters until the games begin to count, let’s see how he fares against the Cardinals on Sunday before starting the Joe Boyle talk.
  • TOR 1st Baseman #27
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished 2-for-2 with a homer and a walk against the Rays on Sunday.
The homer off Nick Martinez was Guerrero’s first in Jays camp after he hit two in the World Baseball Classic. He’s 8-for-18 with four walks and just one strikeout in his eight Grapefruit League games.
  • TB Left Fielder #11
Gavin Lux rejoined the Rays’ starting lineup Sunday and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Blue Jays.
Lux played second today after getting scratched Saturday with shoulder soreness. He also hit third ahead of Junior Caminero again, just as he did Friday. We’re not sure we understand that call, especially with fellow lefty Jonathan Aranda set to hit second, but perhaps it’s not something that will linger into the regular season.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #52
Luis Vázquez is undergoing an MRI and received stitches after leaving Sunday’s Grapefruit League against the Nationals.
Vázquez was hit by a pitch in the thumb, and while he was initially able to stay in the game, he was removed for a pinch-runner shortly after. The 26-year-old is attempting to win a utility spot with Baltimore to open 2026, but obviously the results of his imaging will play a major factor in his ability to do so.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #39
Chad Patrick was roughed up for seven runs in four innings in his final spring start Sunday versus the Cubs.
Patrick gave up a pair of homers; both solo shots in the third inning by Alex Bregman and Ian Happ. The 27-year-old didn’t have a ton of success in Arizona as seen in an ERA of 11.68, but it appears he’ll leave the Cactus League healthy and ready to contribute to the Milwaukee rotation.
  • CLE 1st Baseman #12
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that Rhys Hoskins has made the Guardians’ Opening Day roster.
The Guardians will have to add Hoskins to the 40-man roster, as he was signed as a non-roster invite this winter. The 33-year-old will make $1.5 million, and likely be in the lineup against left-handed pitching to open the 2026 season as a first baseman and designated hitter.
  • SEA Catcher #18
Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports that Mitch Garver is expected to make the Opening Day roster.
Garver was signed to a minor league contract in February, and while the team gave Andrew Knizner an MLB deal, it appears that Garver will beat out Knizner for the right to back up Big Dumper aka Cal Raleigh. Garver likely will see most of his playing time against left-handed pitching behind the plate and ocassionally at DH.
