Giants optioned OF Drew Gilbert and Will Brennan and RHPs Spencer Bivens, Tristan Beck, Trevor McDonald and Carson Seymour to Triple-A Sacramento.

Gilbert’s departure makes it a near-lock that Jerar Encarnacion along with either Luis Matos or Jared Oliva will break camp in the big leagues.

Padres activated LHP Wandy Peralta from the bereavement list.

The 34-year-old southpaw rejoins the Padres’ bullpen for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Peralta has been a key cog in the club’s bullpen this season, compiling a 2.23 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 31/19 K/BB ratio across 48 1/3 innings of work. Ron Marinaccio was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Padres designated RHP Ron Marinaccio for assignment.

Marinaccio has made 33 appearances out of the Padres’ bullpen this season, registering a 4.79 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 38/18 K/BB ratio over 47 innings of work. With so many teams looking for bullpen help, it’s possible that he could attract interest on waivers.

Padres optioned RHP Jhony Brito to Triple-A El Paso.

Brito was just recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday to add an extra arm to the bullpen, but he’ll head back to Triple-A with Randy Vásquez returning from the injured list on Sunday. He’ll stay ready at Triple-A El Paso until he’s needed once more.

Padres activated RHP Randy Vásquez from the 15-day injured list.

The 27-year-old hurler had been sidelined since July 3 due to a right ankle bruise. He’s likely to rejoin the Padres’ rotation on Monday or Tuesday against the Braves in Atlanta. Jhony Brito was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Christian Walker (hip) was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Orioles.

Walker made an early exit from Saturday’s game after sustaining the injury while swinging the bat. He was able to participate in drills on the field prior to Sunday’s game though and isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list, so he’s considered day-to-day. LaMonte Wade Jr. will start in his place at first base and bat cleanup for the Astros on Sunday.

Jeremy Peña (hamstring) is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles.

The good news is that Peña feels much improved after exiting Saturday’s game with a right hamstring cramp and isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list. Nick Allen will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth for the Astros against Brandon Young and the Orioles on Sunday afternoon in Houston.

Astros recalled INF Raynel Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Delgado joins the Astros on Sunday to add some infield depth with both Christian Walker and Jeremy Pena banged up. He’s unlikely to see enough action to gain any sort of relevance from a fantasy perspective. Nate Pearson was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the Astros’ active roster.

Astros designated RHP Nate Pearson for assignment.

The 29-year-old right-hander pitched decently in 16 appearances for the Astros this season, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 16/12 K/BB ratio over 20 innings. He flashed enough during that stretch that he could generate some interest on waivers from bullpen-needy clubs.

Kyle Harrison (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Saturday without any issues.

Harrison underwent a precautionary MRI recently that came back clean for any structural issues. The last hurdle for him to clear before returning from the injured list will be to face live hitters. He’s eligible to return from the injured list on Friday, though it may be optimistic to expect him back the first day that he’s eligible.

Royals activated RHP Stephen Kolek from the family medical emergency list; placed him on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain.

Kolek had been away from the team since July 4 due to a family medical emergency — the second time he had been placed on the list this season. He’s now dealing with an elbow issue and will have as much time away from the club as he needs.
