McDonald had his ERA down to 2.04 before giving up seven of the White Sox’s nine runs in the fourth inning took him all of the way up to 4.76. O’Hoppe was run into at home after having to go up the line to retrieve a throw. The Angels can ill afford to lose him again with Travis d’Arnaud also on the IL, but if it happens, Omar Martinez will be recalled to serve as Sebastian Rivero’s backup.

Jorge Barrosa is more likely to start if Gurriel can’t go on Saturday.
