Kevin Gausman shut out the Rockies for six innings and struck out 10 in a no-decision Wednesday.
Gausman finally gets his first Opening Day start and now he’s 0-0 with a 0.75 ERA after two outings because he keeps getting matched up with aces like Luis Severino and Kyle Freeland. Well, OK, actually it’s that the bullpen has blown leads for him both games, but they were only one-run leads, because he was matched up with aces like Luis Severino and Kyle Freeland. He’s due to get another ace next week against the Dodgers, this one by the name of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Orioles recalled RHP Cameron Foster from Triple-A Norfolk.
Foster came over in last year’s Cedric Mullins trade with the Mets. He’s sporting a 10.50 ERA in six appearances with Norfolk this year, and now has a 7.01 ERA in 21 career appearances at the Triple-A level. He’s likely up for low leverage appearances only.
Devers 'at the center' of Giants' struggles
James Schiano breaks down Rafael Devers' early-season struggles with the Giants and the long-term concerns that could limit his rest-of-season ceiling.
  • BAL Catcher #98
Orioles optioned C Maverick Handley to Triple-A Norfolk.
Handley did not appear in a game in his brief major-league stint. It’s Sam Huff’s show behind Samuel Basallo, at least until Adley Rutschman comes off the injured list.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #59
Dodgers acquired RHP Chayce McDermott from the Orioles for RHP prospect Axel Perez.
McDermott will report to Triple-A per Jack Harris. The former top prospect allowed 15 runs in 8 2/3 innings in 2025 and was lost in a roster crunch. Perez, 20, had a 5.48 ERA in the Dominican Summer League last year over 23 innings where he struck out 32 batters.
  • CIN 3rd Baseman #3
Ke’Bryan Hayes went 0-for-3 and is now hitting .064 in 47 at-bats for the Reds this season.
Hayes has not gotten a hit since April 5 and is working on a 26 plate appearance streak where he has two walks to show for it. Terry Francona said ahead of today’s game “Trevino said something about getting a chicken and having it sacrificed. I told him if we need to, we’ll get a human. We’ll find somebody.” It wouldn’t be surprising if Hayes lost some playing time, even though he is a remarkable defensive 3B, as this slump continues.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #74
Ryan Walker pitched a scoreless seventh inning against the Reds in San Francisco’s 3-0 win on Thursday.
He did not pitch a scoreless ninth inning -- that was, for some reason, Erik Miller’s road to hoe. Walker has not started a ninth inning in a single game this month, and this feels very much like a closer-by-committee while Walker is used as a true fireman. It’s a disappointing result so far for fantasy managers, as Walker has allowed just three earned runs in seven innings and has only one save to show for it. Walker-reliant managers with clearer save options on the waiver wire have to at least consider a move at this point.
  • SF Center Fielder #51
Jung Hoo Lee went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a 3-0 win over the Reds on Thursday.
Lee couldn’t quite hit a launch angle -- these were all singles -- but they were nice to see. Lee now has 10 hits in his last six games, boosting his batting average to .246. He’s essentially only a volume play in NL-only leagues due to the lack of homers and stolen bases.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #26
Chase Burns threw six shutout innings against the Giants on Thursday, allowing just two hits and one walk.
Burns was pumping 97.6 mph gas with the fastball and got a 36 percent whiff rate with his slider. It’s a little disappointing he only struck out four, but he generated plenty of weak contact and even his two hits allowed got little air time. Burns carries a 2.42 ERA into his next start on the road in Tampa Bay and should be trusted in most leagues.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #65
Landen Roupp breezed through six shutout innings against the Reds on Thursday, striking out six in a win.
He carried a no-hitter into the sixth before allowing a single to P.J. Higgins to lead off the inning. He then took care of a 2-on, no-out threat by striking out Matt McClain and getting Elly De La Cruz to hit into a double play. It was threatening to be a no-decision as Chase Burns matched him frame-for-frame, but Cincinnati’s bullpen forked over three runs in the seventh. Roupp’s peripherals have been strong so far and he should be started with confidence against most teams. We wouldn’t blame you if you shied away from starting him against the Dodgers next week, though.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #68
Cardinals sent LHP Jared Shuster outright to Triple-A Memphis.
Shuster does not have to report and can elect free agency if he chooses. He’d allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings with the Cardinals. The 27-year-old was released by the Athletics this offseason and probably will need to earn another major league chance, be it with the Cardinals or someone else.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #52
Mike Clevinger suffered a knee injury at Triple-A Indianapolis and will miss “roughly” six weeks.
His leg will be immobilized “several weeks.” Clevinger pitched in six games for Indianapolis before getting hurt, culminating in a 5.19 ERA, five walks, nine strikeouts, and a 1.15 WHIP. With the Pirates pitching staff seemingly in good hands at the moment, Clevinger had no real path to the majors.
