Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters they’re going to wait as long as possible before Monday’s series opener against the Dodgers before determining whether Barger will require a trip to the injured list. The 26-year-old is dealing with a relatively minor ankle issue but could still wind up needing some additional time off. He’s best left on the bench for fantasy purposes outside of extremely deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats out of an abundance of caution.

Astros activated 3B Isaac Paredes from the bereavement list.

Paredes returns to Houston’s active roster prior to Monday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 27-year-old corner infielder started six of seven games to open the year and will continue splitting time between the hot corner and DH, which is a drag on his fantasy value, limiting his appeal to deeper mixed leagues for now.

Astros optioned INF/OF Shay Whitcomb to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Whitcomb’s latest stint with the Astros wound up lasting just a few days while Isaac Paredes was away from the club on bereavement leave. The 27-year-old has put up some big-time numbers at the Triple-A level, and offers a ton of defensive versatility, but he’s struggled to gain any sort of traction at the highest level.

Ryan Mountcastle is at DH and batting sixth on Monday against the White Sox.

Mountcastle finds himself in Baltimore’s lineup for just the second time this season with his lone start coming back on March 31. It’ll be Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers on the bench with Mountcastle and Tyler O’Neill getting an opportunity to face White Sox opener Grant Taylor, who has been excellent this season.

MIL Relief Pitcher #47

Jared Koenig (elbow) will be out at least 2-4 weeks, according to Brewers manager Pat Murphy.

Koenig hit the shelf earlier on Monday with a left elbow sprain but it sounds like he’ll avoid surgery for now. The big concern is how his elbow responds after some time off from throwing, which will likely determine whether he returns at some point in late April or early May.
