Nationals recalled INF Brady House from Triple-A Rochester.

With Curtis Mead dealt to the Red Sox early Sunday morning, House will get another opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level. The 23-year-old slugger has slashed a paltry .227/.282/.399 with seven homers and 25 RBI in 177 plate appearances with the Nationals this season. He remains an underwhelming option for fantasy purposes.

Twins placed RHP Mike Paredes on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 23, with a left oblique strain.

Paredes was scratched from his scheduled start against the Athletics on Saturday due to the injury, so it’s not surprising to see him wind up on the injured list. He’ll miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering. Connor Prielipp was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Twins optioned RHP Jack Anderson to Triple-A St. Paul.

The Twins needed to clear a spot in their bullpen for the return of Cole Sands (forearm) on Sunday and Anderson happened to be the odd man out this time around. The 26-year-old hurler fired 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball with a 0.60 WHIP and a 4/1 K/BB ratio in his three appearances with the Twins. It shouldn’t take him long to earn another shot with the big league club.

Athletics recalled C Brian Serven from Triple-A Las Vegas.

With Shea Langeliers (knee) likely to miss the remainder of the season, Serven will have an opportunity to stick around this time as the backup to Jonah Heim. The 31-year-old backstop has gone 1-for-4 in his limited action with the A’s this season.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the devastating news on Sunday morning. It has yet to be decided whether or not Langeliers will require season-ending surgery to repair the tear. Brian Serven was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his spot on the active roster.

Vinnie Pasquantino is absent from the Royals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers in Motown.

Pasquantino and Carter Jensen will both get a breather on Sunday afternoon with left-hander Framber Valdez on the bump for the Tigers. Salvador Perez will cover first base in his place while Luke Maile draws a start behind the dish and will bat eighth for the Royals.

Red Sox activated LHP Ranger Suarez from the 15-day injured list.

The 30-year-old southpaw had been sidelined since the first week of July due to a left groin strain, and then had his return delayed slightly while battling an illness. He’ll rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation for Sunday afternoon’s series finale against the Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Red Sox optioned LHP Alec Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox needed to clear a spot on their active roster for the return of Ranger Suarez on Sunday and unfortunately Gamboa drew the short straw this time around. The 29-year-old southpaw holds a terrific 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 12/5 K/BB ratio over 13 innings in seven appearances with the big league club this season. He should get another opportunity with the Red Sox before the summer is through.
