Donovan might have tweaked an ankle stepping on first base while trying to beat out a grounder. He’s probably day-to-day, but if it does turn out to be something significant, Colt Emerson could join the Mariners sooner than expected.
Juan Soto

Juan Soto left Friday’s game against the Giants because of right calf tightness.

Soto singled in his lone at-bat and then came up a little lame running from first to third before being replaced by Tyrone Taylor in left field. He’s probably day-to-day, but he could DH a couple of times if it remains an issue this weekend.
Chase DeLauter

CLE Right Fielder #24

Chase DeLauter went 3-for-4 and hit his fifth homer in the Guardians’ 4-1 defeat of the Cubs on Friday.

DeLauter had an RBI single in the fifth and a two-run homer in the seventh. That’s five homers in just 27 plate appearances for DeLauter, who left Tuesday’s game with a foot contusion and didn’t play Wednesday. The rest of the Guardians have combined to hit just three in eight games.
Byron Buxton

MIN Center Fielder #25

Byron Buxton is day-to-day with a forearm contusion after getting hit by a pitch Friday against the Rays.

The Kevin Kelly offering hit him near his back elbow. X-rays were negative, though as we saw with Jordan Lawlar, that’s not necessarily everything. James Outman replaced him as a pinch-runner and in center field. He would be his primary replacement if Buxton misses some time.
Konnor Griffin

PIT Shortstop #85

Konnor Griffin had an RBI double in his first major league at-bat and walked Friday as the Pirates beat the Orioles 6-5.

Griffin’s double was a 106-mph liner to left-center against Kyle Bradish as part of a four-run second inning. He knocked in Ryan O’Hearn and then scored on a Jared Triolo single. He walked his second time up, struck out in his third plate appearance (despite previously getting a 2-2 pitch overturned to stay alive) and then had a weak groundout his last time up. All in all, it was a very successful day for the 19-year-old.
Gregory Soto

PIT Relief Pitcher #31

Gregory Soto earned his first save despite giving up a Gunnar Henderson solo homer in the ninth Friday against the Pirates.

It’s just speculation, but it might that the Pirates used Dennis Santana in eighth and Soto in the ninth today just so that they’d have a lefty facing Henderson, who already had two hits in the game. Santana was perfect in the eighth, and Soto struck out both batters he faced before the long ball. He then fanned Pete Alonso to end the contest. We’re not sure why the Pirates seem to have this much faith in Soto, but it hasn’t cost them yet. Santana is still probably the favorite for saves in Pittsburgh, but it looks like it will be an annoying situation for a while.
José Buttó

SF Relief Pitcher #70

José Bútto was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right arm and will undergo a procedure to remove it.

Butto left Wednesday’s game with discomfort and was placed on the IL on Thursday. The Giants will have a better idea how much time he might miss after the procedure.
Trey Yesavage

TOR Starting Pitcher #39

Trey Yesavage, on the IL with a shoulder impingement, gave up one run in 2 2/3 innings Friday in his first rehab start for Low-A Dunedin.

The one run came on an inside-the-park homer. Yesavage struck out three and threw 44 pitches. We’ll have to wait and see when his second start will come, as the Jays haven’t been having him work with a typical rest pattern yet this year.
Cade Horton

CHC Starting Pitcher #22

Cade Horton will get tests this weekend and go on the injured list due to forearm discomfort.

Horton said after the game that the discomfort that caused him to leave his start against the Guardians in the second inning began in his wrist before he developed tightness in his forearm. That doesn’t really sound like a UCL problem, but we’ll see. The Cubs are certainly going to play things safe regardless. Colin Rea, who allowed one run in 3 1/3 innings after taking over for Horton today, is likely to step into the rotation.
Luinder Avila

KC Starting Pitcher #58

Friday’s game between the Brewers and Royals was rained out and will made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday.

Chad Patrick and Luinder Avila, filling in for an ill Michael Wacha, were supposed to start tonight’s game. They’ll now pitch the first game on Saturday, with previously scheduled starters Brandon Sproat and Seth Lugo to work in game two.
