Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Brian Thomas Jr. played only 23 snaps in Week 3 because the Jaguars “were playing in a little bit more 12 and also some of the things that we had Josh [Cameron] on specifically were things that we felt good about him doing within a role that he has.”

Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley believes that Cameron’s usage (23 snaps) could make it “stand[s] to reason Thomas could quickly become the fourth option instead” in a column that says he believes a “new start would be best for both parties.” It sounds like there’s a non-zero chance that Thomas is on the trade block at the deadline, as weird as that seems given how good the Jaguars have been on offense. Thomas isn’t necessarily someone who has to be rostered in shallow leagues given how things are trending.

Though he was still No. 3 in wide receiver snaps agains the Bengals, Thomas saw more snaps this week than his 23-snap game against the Patriots last week. He out-snapped Josh Cameron 38-to-22 and caught Trevor Lawrence’s sole touchdown pass of the afternoon. Despite the score, Thomas’ lesser role relegates him to the WR3 spot in the Jaguars offense as he tied for fourth in targets against the Bengals. Thomas is a touchdown-dependent fantasy play and should be in the WR5 range for Week 5 against the Eagles.

He caught one of Trevor Lawrence’s three touchdown throws on the day. Cameron has begun to eat into Brian Thomas Jr.'s snap share. Against the Patriots Cameron logged ten routes to 16 routes for Thomas while Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers each ran 31 routes. If the Jaguars part ways with Thomas in the coming weeks, Cameron would likely step into a bigger role in the potent Jags passing attack.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
After back-to-back 40-yard outings as the Jaguars’ No. 2 receiver, Thomas bottomed out on a low-volume day for the Jacksonville offense. Jakobi Meyers led the Jags with nine targets while Parker Washington saw five looks; both wideouts scored a touchdown against an overmatched Pats secondary. Thomas’ usage has been spotty even in two-receiver sets so far this season. That leaves him as an iffy flex play week to week. He could benefit from a potentially high-scoring game in Week 4 against the Bengals. In shallower leagues he should stay on the bench for the time being.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
Thomas had a couple drops in this one and once again seemed not to be on the same page as Trevor Lawrence. Parker Washington led the Jaguars with a dozen targets and was clearly Lawrence’s preferred target. The highlight of Thomas’ day came on a 22-yard grab. BTJ’s downfield role in the Jacksonville offense means he will be a high variance weekly play in 12-team leagues. He some some flex appeal for Week 3 against a tough New England secondary.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
Thomas missed a little time in Week 1 after landing on his injured shoulder, but was able to return. The Jaguars’ X-receiver could face Broncos CB Pat Surtain on the perimeter this week, but he should get a few chances to make big plays downfield. He remains a FLEX starter in Week 2.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
The Jaguars are seemingly just managing Thomas’ reps after their X-receiver aggravated his shoulder injury in Week 1 against the Browns. Thomas remains a volatile WR3/FLEX playing in a productive, if crowded, offense.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
Thomas Jr. left the Jags’ Week 1 win over the Browns in the first half, though he eventually got back on the field after halftime. It’s believed to be a reaggravation of the shoulder injury he dealt with during training camp. While Liam Coen has already said he expected BTJ to play in Week 2, a lingering shoulder injury isn’t going to do him any favors as he attempts to bounce back from a quiet Week 1. Thomas Jr. will be stuck at the back of the WR3 ranks for his date with the Broncos on Sunday.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
Thomas exited Week 1 after reaggravating a shoulder injury he dealt with in the days leading up to Sunday’s game. He returned to finish out the game, so it’s not all too surprising to hear that Coen expects him to be good to go for next week’s game against the Broncos. Thomas’ 14 routes run in Sunday’s win over the Browns ranked third most among Jags receivers in a game where the leading route runner (Jakobi Meyers) ran only 20 routes in a game that Jacksonville controlled all afternoon. Thomas will be hard to trust as anything more than a WR3 in next week’s game against the Broncos.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #19
Cameron was thought to be buried on the Jaguars depth chart as a rookie, but Liam Coen found opportunities for him in Week 1 nevertheless. He caught a touchdown pass in the first half and saw increased snaps with Brian Thomas Jr. (shoulder) exiting the game briefly in the first half. Despite the touchdown, fantasy managers still should not expect Cameron to get fantasy-relevant opportunities unless one of the Jaguars’ top three wide receivers are injured.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #7
Thomas got off to a fast start, making a toe-tap catch on the Jaguars’ first drive and catching all three of his targets in the first quarter. He hurt his shoulder diving for a fumble and exited the game in the first half. Though Thomas returned in the second half, the Jaguars had a monstrous lead and he saw no targets the rest of the game. Based on first half utilization, Thomas is the team’s No. 2 wide receiver and should get plenty of opportunities in a fantasy-fruitful offense. He is a fantasy WR3 for Week 2 against the Broncos.

Patriots brought in free agent RB Jamaal Williams for a workout.

The Pats brought in an interesting name to work out for the backfield this week, bringing in former Packers, Lions, and Saints running back Jamaal Williams. The 31-year-old last appeared in the NFL for the Saints in 2024, tallying 164 rushing yards that season. He had a career year for the Lions in 2022, totaling 1,000 yards on the ground and leading the league in rushing touchdowns. The Patriots are looking for some depth behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson; there is no indication Williams will sign, but he will be practice squad depth if he does.

Giants WR Braxton Berrios (foot) announced he will need season-ending surgery.

Berrios announced on his Instagram that he will need season-ending surgery for his foot injury that landed him on injured reserve. The 31-year-old is primarily a special teamer, returning four punts and five kicks this season. Injuries have prevented Berrios from appearing in more than 14 games over the last three seasons and he now has his season end early as he requires foot surgery.

Broncos signed WR Cam Ross to their practice squad.

With Pat Bryant (ankle) suffering a multi-week injury in Week 4, the Broncos are adding to their wide receiver depth by signing Ross to the practice squad. The 25-year-old Ross was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia who spent training camp with the Broncos before he was let go in final cuts. Ross now re-joins the practice squad. EDGE Jahfari Harvey was let go from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Cardinals signed OL Jedrick Wills off Buffalo’s practice squad.

He’ll replace Paris Johnson, who heads to season-ending injured reserve. Wills, the former 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft, will compete with 2026 seventh-rounder Jayden Williams for reps at left tackle in Johnson’s absence.

It was a mid-week downgrade after a limited estimated session on Monday. Trotter’s in real danger of missing Thursday night’s game against the Cowboys.

Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin (right groin/hip) did not practice on Tuesday.

It was an addition to the report. Never a great sign, especially on a short week. The Buccaneers aren’t carrying a practice-squad kicker, so expect some workouts as they try to find someone you won’t be starting in fantasy football with Jalon Daniels under center.

Cardinals placed TE Hunter Long (knee) on injured reserve.

He’ll miss at least the next four weeks. Long had played 91 snaps in his first four weeks with the Cardinals and will cede blocking duties to promoted practice-squadder Teagan Quitoriano for those of you in points-per-blocked-players leagues.

OT Lane Johnson retired from the NFL after 14 seasons.

We’d heard word through former Eagles EDGE Brandon Graham on a post-game show that this was on the table following Week 4, but it’s still a stunner to see it come to fruition. Johnson cites that his “personal and family priorities” have changed in his post about retiring. The stalwart Eagles right tackle made two first-team All-Pro appearances and three second teams, along with six Pro Bowls. Markel Bell started in his stead in Week 4 and should be expected to get the playing time at right tackle going forward.

Browns designated QB Dillon Gabriel (back/IR) for return.

His 21-day practice window will open up. There’s obviously no rush to promote him to the active roster with the Browns already dressing three quarterbacks every week, so this is probably just starting a ticking clock on a trade or cut from the quarterback room.
