The 19-year-old prodigy has been on an absolute rocket ship towards Milwaukee since a sublime Dominican Summer League campaign back in 2024. He’s universally regarded as the top prospect in baseball and is thriving as one of the youngest hitters in Double-A, slashing .287/.359/.464 with 12 round-trippers and 29 stolen bases through 89 games. It’s impossible to dismiss the slim possibility given how meteoric his rise has been to this point that the Brewers decide to give him a taste of the majors and postseason action before the end of the year. It happened with Junior Caminero a couple years ago.

The Twins definitely needed rotation depth, but Kremer has struggled to a 6.50 ERA in his seven starts this year, and while he’s under control for 2027, he seems like a non-tender candidate right now. Maybe he’ll bounce back — he was typically an average starter or a little better each season from 2022 through 2025 — but he’s never been all that exciting with his middling velocity and strikeout numbers. The Orioles could replace him with Trey Gibson or Cade Povich for now, and they should get Chris Bassitt back sometime in August. Zebby Matthews might be bumped from the Twins’ rotation in order to open up a spot.

Manager Chad Tracy indicated that he was encouraged by the initial tests, so Contreras hasn’t been ruled out for Saturday’s game just yet. If he can’t play, then it will lead to a start for either Nick Sogard or Romy Gonzalez.

Clark worked Jeffrey Springs for a walk in his first MLB plate appearance, then blooped a single into left field in his next trip to the dish to collect his first hit. After bouncing out in the sixth inning, Clark smacked an RBI double off of left-hander Brady Basso in the eighth inning then scored on an error by Tommy White. He also doubled in the ninth inning and scored on a two-run single by Javier Baez. He’s going to have some growing pains, but his dynamic blend of power and speed should make him an intriguing option in deeper mixed leagues.

Abrams’ growth as a hitter this season has been remarkable to watch. His home run was his 28th of the season and RBI his 83rd. Each of those are among the leaders in the National League and career-bests for him by a wide margin with two more months left to play. Yet, to watch the Braves pitchers be much more careful with him following that blast and Abrams to just sit back and take walks in his following two plate appearances was lovely. With three walks in this contest, he also set a new career-high in that stat with 51 games in front of him. He’s fully blossomed into a phenomenal offensive player.

There’s on fire, then there’s whatever Kyle Stowers has been lately. He blasted a 417 foot homer here which was his second in as many days and fourth over his last six games. That brought his total up to nine in July as he’s spent most of the last six weeks blazing hot following a poor start to his season. To illustrate this, Stowers had a .659 OPS back on June 15th. After this game, he’s up to a .788 OPS and it feels like that number will keep climbing.

Pirates’ skipper Don Kelly told reporters after the game that he was concerned and that it “didn’t look good”. O’Hearn is heading for additional evaluation to the determine the extent of what looked to be a quad issue. The Pirates should have an update on his status prior to Saturday’s contest.

Stewart tagged Pirates’ ace Paul Skenes for a 409-foot (104.1-mph EV) two-run blast in the fourth inning that gave the Reds a 5-3 advantage. He then smacked a two-run single in the eighth inning that tied the game at 7-7 before scoring the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nathaniel Lowe. The 22-year-old slugger is enjoying an outstanding rookie campaign, slashing .255/.334/.477 with 23 homers, 84 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 473 plate appearances.

Caminero hit his 30th homer of the season in the fourth inning off White Sox starter Erick Fedde. It was the first homer for Caminero in nearly two weeks, as the slugger has struggled to produce many extra-base hits over that span. That said, he concludes the month with a .245/.336/.529 slash line with seven homers and 14 RBI.

Warren badly needed a start like this after coming into the day with a 7.50 July ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. Warren still allowed nine hard-hit balls, but decreased his fastball usage and seemed to get a little extra variability out of that, with a 45 percent whiff rate on his changeup. Assuming he maintains his starting job after the deadline, Warren is scheduled to face the Cardinals next week.
