ESPN’s Todd Archer reports Ryan Flournoy “has worked in the slot more” this offseason.

Archer mentioned Flournoy as the biggest surprise for the Cowboys so far this offseason. The third-year receiver totaled 40 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns last season, and played 34.4 percent of his snaps in the slot. The Cowboys ran the fourth-most plays from 11 personnel last season, per TruMedia. While it’s possible that Flournoy’s increased slot role leads to more production, fantasy managers should take this with a grain of salt. As long as CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson are healthy, Flournoy will face an uphill climb to improve on the 3.8 targets per game he averaged last season. That said, if either Lamb or Pickens were to miss time, Flournoy could have some streaming upside in deeper leagues after he posted a few 100-plus yard games last season in games where either Pickens or Lamb were sidelined.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he really thinks WR Ryan Flournoy “is taking the next step.”

Schottenheimer believes the 2024 sixth-round pick “has a chance to be a terrific receiver in this league.” He currently projects as the Cowboys’ WR3 and will likely carry that distinction into the regular season. Flournoy is a worthwhile best ball pick right now, but it remains to be seen whether he will warrant consideration in 12-team re-draft leagues late in August. Flournoy posted a 40/475/4 receiving line last season, while upping his yards per route run average from 1.06 to 174. It will be difficult for him to be anything more than a volatile WR5/WR6, but he will deliver a few spiked weeks.

The Athletic’s Jon Machota believes Ryan Flournoy will be Dallas’ No. 3 receiver in 2026.

In other words, he expects Flournoy to confine KaVonate Turpin to a gadget role. Flournoy produced in his limited chances last year and, if a surprise George Pickens trade comes to fruition, could have real fantasy upside in 2026. As is, he’ll have WR5/WR6 appeal in what profiles as the third or fourth option (alongside tight end Jake Ferguson) in a good passing offense.

Ryan Flournoy caught 5-of-7 targets for 68 yards in a Week 18 loss to the Giants.

With the Cowboys leaning heavily on their backups in this one, Flournoy led the team in targets and receiving yards. In fact, he was the only player who had more than three targets in this one. That will end a solid season for the 26-year-old, who had 40 catches on 56 targets for 475 yards and four touchdowns. He had a few big games for the Cowboys when CeeDee Lamb was forced to miss time with injuries and figures to be somebody the Cowboys look to retain this offseason. Flournoy will be a restricted free agent, so Dallas’ ability to hold onto him will depend on whether or not any other team falls in love with him in the offseason.

Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy (knee) is not on Dallas’ final Week 18 injury report.

He’ll get some work in with Dak Prescott in the finale. Flournoy has showcased some big play ability and nearly had a two-touchdown game against the Chargers in December before leaving with an injury. He’s a potential WR4/WR5 play this week.

Cowboys declared WR Ryan Flournoy (knee) inactive for Week 17 against the Commanders.

Flournoy is dealing with a knee injury he suffered in Week 16 against the Chargers. He failed to get in a full practice on a short week and is now ruled out, making KaVontae Turpin the Cowboys’ No. 3 wide receiver for the week. The Cowboys also declared LB DeMarvion Overshown, CB Caelen Carson, RB Jaydon Blue, DT Jay Toia, and DT Perrion Winfrey inactive for Week 17 against the Commanders. Overshown is out with a concussion suffered in Week 16.

Ryan Flournoy (knee) is questionable for Week 17 against the Commanders.

Flournoy was estimated to be a limited participant for Monday’s walkthrough. The team then listed him as DNP on Tuesday. He remained a DNP today, though it was another walkthrough. We don’t like his odds of suiting up for the Cowboys’ Christmas game against Washington. KaVontae Turpin has been cleared for Week 17 and would take over as the team’s No. 3 receiver if Flournoy can’t go.

Without additional context, this looks bad for Flournoy’s chances of playing on Christmas. He got in a limited session Monday, but this could be a situation where he re-aggravated his knee by pushing it too fast. Or the Cowboys may simply have seen what they wanted to see and wanted to keep him sidelined on Tuesday to rest him. We’ve presented you the narratives and leave you with: It will be interesting to see which narrative will win.

Flournoy drawing a limited designation to start the week is a surprisingly good sign. The second-year receiver was knocked from Week 16’s game against the Chargers and ruled out almost immediately after leaving the field. It’s too early to say if he’ll be good to go for Week 17 against the Commanders, but it looks like he’s on track to log a few practices before Thursday.

Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy (knee) left Dallas’ Week 16 game against the Chargers and will not return.

Flournoy caught a touchdown on Dallas’ first drive and had another negated by a questionable holding penalty on Dallas’ second, finishing with 2/14/1 in the air. The near-instant ruleout does not bode well for his rest-of-season status, which is a shame as he was making quite a push over the last three weeks.

Ryan Flournoy caught 9-of-13 targets for 115 yards and one touchdown in the Cowboys’ Week 14 loss to the Lions.

Flournoy now has two 100-yard performances on his resumé this season. The second-year receiver saw nine of his 13 targets come in the second half with CeeDee Lamb (concussion) sidelined, and was on the receiving end of the only passing touchdown by Cowboys. Flournoy was the beneficiary of a broken coverage by the Lions when safety Brian Branch failed to provide help in the secondary for corner Amik Robertson. The end result was an uncontested 42-yard touchdown to give Flournoy his third receiving touchdown of the season. Flournoy could have some upside as a WR3/WR4 in Week 15 if Lamb were to miss next week’s game, but he can be left on fantasy benches if Lamb is able to play.

Bears assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El called offensive plays in the second half of Chicago’s 34-10 win over the Browns in Week 1 of the preseason.

It certainly can’t hurt his case for head coaching work should the Bears offense continue to play well above the league average. Randle El’s offensive playcalling produced 235 yards and 24 points in the second half.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Marcus Mariota (knee) sprained his MCL and will miss the remainder of the preseason.

Frankly, a pretty good update considering how quickly Mariota exited the field on Friday. The Commanders will likely pick up another quarterback to help navigate the final two weeks of the preseason. Mariota will be the backup for the season opener if healthy.

The good news is that Allen worked with the starters in the slot. The bad news is that he worked well into the second half in the first preseason game while leading the team in targets. He’s clearly the highest-upside stash receiver of the group, but playing deep into the first preseason game isn’t a great sign for his chances of early playing time.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Emmett Johnson was “one of the positives coming out of” their first preseason game.

Johnson had 12 carries for 59 yards and three catches for 10 yards against the Rams. While we’ve seen a little camp buzz about Johnson, The Athletic’s Jesse Newell presents this as a step forward for Johnson who “has been running with the fourth-string offense most of training camp.” He’s still probably the best back to have rostered in the event of a Kenneth Walker injury, but this isn’t such an important role that the backup necessarily needs to be rostered in standard redraft leagues.

Browns coach Todd Monken said Deshaun Watson “functioned at a high level” against the Bears in their preseason opener.

We’d normally skip right past this, but it’s a notable quote given the open competition for the starting quarterback job. It would seem to imply that Watson is in the lead. “It was so cool to watch him play. I get all of the frustration by fans, himself (with the past), but for him to come back and work like he did is an unbelievable credit to him,” Monken said. It sounds like Monken will continue the competition through the second week of the preseason, but there’s already a lean here.

The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt believes Cade Klubnik is the favorite for the Jets backup quarterback job.

Klubnik played two series with the starters in the first preseason game before giving way to Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook, going 5-of-7 for 56 yards. “He has some moxie to him,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said. “He’s very confident, he’s confident in his arm, confident in his ability to elude and make plays with his feet. His ability to be able to come out and operate with the first group the way he did, I thought, was outstanding.” Given how Jets quarterbacking has gone over the past few years and Geno Smith’s age, Klubnik will likely find himself in a starting lineup at some point this season if he can stay healthy.

He tore his MCL against the Raiders on Thursday night in the team’s first preseason game. "(Chase) will be out for a good amount of time, if not the whole year,” Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said. “Sucks for him. Always think about the player first.
