ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that Seahawks RB George Holani “is squarely in Seattle’s backfield plans for 2026.”

It has been tough for some to accept that the former undrafted free agent will have a role this season, but reports continue to indicate that Seahawks coaches trust him. Henderson notes that Holani performed well as a fill-in for RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) as a passing game player during the playoffs. Charbonnet has received positive rehab reports, and a Week 1 return is considered possible. In that scenario, Holani could still rotate in as a backup. If Charbonnet is sidelined to begin the year, Holani should handle the passing down role. Whether that usage facilitates a FLEX-worthy workload remains to be seen.

The soreness info comes from a team spokesperson, who evidently opted not to share helpful details. Price has been practicing hard, at times taking reps with the first-, second- and third-team offenses, so a little soreness is unsurprising. We might end up learning that he is dealing with a minor injury at some point, though. The team could simply be playing coy. Until then, don’t panic. Price’s first-team usage is encouraging for his rookie season outlook and we still have a month to go before the season begins. Seahawks RBs George Holani, Emanuel Wilson and Velus Jones all got time with the starting offense in Price’s stead.

No word from the team yet regarding Price’s absence. Hopefully, it’s ultimately a non-issue. Price has occasionally worked with the backups, while diligently refining his receiving skills. However, Price has also been working with the first-team offense, alongside RB George Holani, and was given the first rep in the Seahawks’ first full-team scrimmage at training camp. Holani would benefit if Price is sidelined by an injury. Hopefully, this is not the case.

Breer continues that the Seahawks are “going to be smart with him.” We’d be floored by a Week 1 return given Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL just last January, but the Seahawks haven’t really put out a real timetable on his status. Seahawks coach Mike McDaniel said in June that “everything’s possible” when asked about Charbonnet playing in Week 1, but didn’t elaborate much on the odds. It does sound like even if Charbonnet is placed on the reserve/PUP list at the end of camp, he’d have a real shot to play in October.

Charbonnet is still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in the Divisional Round last year. He can be activated from the PUP list at any time, though the most likely outcome is that he misses all of camp and is then moved to the reserve/PUP list. That would require him to miss at least the first four games of the season. With Kenneth Walker gone, the Seahawks will rely on first-round rookie Jadarian Price to start the year. George Holani and Emmanuel Wilson could also mix in for some touches, with Holani likely operating as the primary option on passing downs.

Henderson says the expectation is that Price will split work with incumbent George Holani and free agent signee Emanuel Wilson while the team waits for Zach Charbonnet (ACL) to make his return. We’ll see if a clear-cut RB1 emerges for the Seahawks during training camp, but this is shaping up to be a messy backfield during the early part of the season based on where things stand right now. One concern about Price entering the draft was his ability to contribute in the passing game, but Henderson notes that he “looked plenty capable as a pass catcher in the spring,” so it’s possible he could see more work than we initially anticipated. Price is the only running back with an ADP of note in early fantasy drafts, while both Holani and Wilson are going un-drafted more often than not. With Holani and Wilson being virtually free in drafts, their ADP presents a nice buying opportunity for fantasy managers looking for late-round sleepers that could make an early impact this season.

Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in Seattle’s first playoff game during their Super Bowl run. He has done some light work at minicamp and MacDonald hinted that he’s ahead of schedule. It would still be surprising to see Charbonnet on the field for Week 1, but it’s at least a good sign that MacDonald is leaving the door open. If he isn’t ready for the start of the season, George Holani would be in line to back up first-round rookie Jadarian Price. Holani would likely see the bulk of his snaps on passing downs, giving him some RB3 potential in PPR leagues.

The pass protection and receiving talents that Holani showcased in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl LX run earned him the coaching staff’s trust last year. Although Holani is operating as the Seahawks’ current RB1, The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell notes that the team is increasing rookie RB Jadarian Price’s first-team involvement. Given Price’s first-round draft capital, it seems likely that he will overtake Holani in the practice rotation at some point this summer, but Holani seemingly does have a chance to retain a role once the season begins. Stay tuned.

Charbonnet went through a high-knees exercise before checking in with a trainer. There isn’t a whole lot to be drawn from this, but we suppose seeing Charbonnet go through rehab drills four months post-op is a positive of sorts. Questions remain as to when Charbonnet will be able to retake the field after undergoing ACL reconstruction this offseason, but he is expected to play at some point this year.
  • Washington, after excelling at the NFL Combine, has been linked to a few teams, including the Broncos. Bowen said Washington, who went for 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns at Arkansas in 2025, would be a solid fit for Seattle’s offense. “Under new coordinator Brian Fleury — who coached with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco — we should expect a run game that leans on motion and movement in both zone and gap concepts,” Bowen said, adding that Washington would likely be a Day Two pick. “Washington has the lateral agility to fit in that scheme, and he can dart through daylight with his 4.33 speed. His frame can handle NFL volume, plus he can produce on swings and screens as a pass catcher.” The Seahawks backfield is in flux after Ken Walker left for Kansas City in free agency and Zach Charbonnet continues to recover from a late-season knee injury. The Seahawks signed former Packers RB Emanuel Wilson in free agency. Washington would make sense for Seattle if the team looks to bolster its backfield in the second or third round.

Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in the Seahawks’ divisional round win over the 49ers last postseason, and didn’t have surgery to repair the injury until February. While there were concerns that Charbonnet may miss all of 2026 due to the timing of his injury and the surgery Macdonald confirmed that he expects to have the fourth-year RB back at some point this season. In the meantime, the loss of Kenneth Walker, combined with Charbonnet’s injury, puts the Seahawks in a unique position at RB to start the year. The team did go out and add Emanuel Wilson via free agency earlier this month, but the Seahawks could be in play for a Day 2 rookie at the position to pair with Wilson, George Holani, and a slew of other backups until Charbonnet is able to return. Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 730 yards and 12 touchdowns last season with the Seahawks and will presumably serve as their RB1 once healthy, but he’s a near lock to open the season on the PUP list, and could miss extensive time to start the year.

The Athletic’s Jon Machota believes Malik Davis will start the season as the Cowboys’ RB2.

Davis got the start in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cardinals, rushing five times for 29 yards while adding one catch for eight yards and a touchdown. The 27-year-old back has gained steam in recent weeks as the favorite to win the Cowboys’ RB2 job out of camp, but Machota also said he believes “Jaydon Blue takes (the RB2 job) during the season.” Blue rushed 15 times for a team-high 75 yards in Saturday’s win over the Cardinals, ripping off multiple chunk gains on the day. While we still have one preseason game left to go, it sounds like fantasy managers looking for the handcuff to Javonte Williams should target Davis in the late/final rounds of drafts at this point.

Christian McCaffrey (tightness) returned to practice on Sunday.

On the same day the Niners saw George Kittle return from his Achilles injury, the team also got back McCaffrey, who had been sidelined since August 10th due to his “tightness.” Assuming he doesn’t miss any more time and we don’t hear anything else about this injury or a new one, McCaffrey appears to be in good shape to be ready in time for the Niners’ Week 1 opener when they take on the Rams in Australia 18 days from now.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said Jadarian Price won’t play either of the team’s final two preseason games.

Price was dealing with some “upper-leg soreness” a few weeks ago, but returned to last week’s joint practice with the Titans in a limited capacity. The rookie first-rounder, however, won’t be on the field when the Seahawks face the Titans on Sunday night, and he’ll also forego the team’s final preseason game against the Chiefs before suiting up for Week 1 when the Seahawks play host to the Patriots. Price has taken first-team reps with the Seahawks in camp and has been working on his pass-catching abilities. While we don’t quite know what to expect for his role early in the season, we would expect him to fall somewhere in the RB2 conversation for fantasy purposes this season.

49ers activated TE George Kittle (Achilles) from the physically unable to perform list on Sunday.

It has been reported multiple times this offseason that Kittle could have a chance to be ready in time for the 49ers’ Week 1 game against the Rams in Australia. The decision to activate him from the PUP list on Sunday is the most encouraging sign we have seen to date that a Week 1 return is possible, as the team will now prepare to ramp him up in the coming weeks to see how his surgically repaired Achilles holds up. Kittle underwent surgery to repair his Achilles in mid-January, so he’s just over seven months removed from a surgery that typically sidelines players for 9-12 months. The 32-year-old tight end would be a welcome addition to a receiving corps that’s been decimated by injuries in camp, so his progress will be one to monitor in the weeks ahead.

Chargers placed C Tyler Biadasz (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Biadasz sustained “damage to his ACL” during a joint practice with the 49ers last week and is now out for the season after seeking out multiple opinions on the injury. The veteran center signed a three-year deal with the Chargers earlier this offseason after being a surprise release by the Commanders and was expected to solidify the interior of an offensive line that dealt with multiple injuries last season.

Browns signed DE Derek Barnett, formerly of the Texans, to a one-year contract.

This move comes after the Browns lost DE Alex Wright for the season to a torn Achilles. Barnett, who has spent the last three seasons with the Texans, has totaled five sacks in each of the last two years and earned a PFF pass rush grade of 69.7 last season. While the addition of Barnett does soften the blow that the loss of Wright brings to the defense, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Browns continued to look for additional help on defense before the start of the season. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Barnett can earn up to $5.5 million on his deal with the Browns.

Browns placed DE Alex Wright (Achilles) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Wright was carted from last Thursday’s practice and has been diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles. The fifth-year DE has been a key player on the Browns’ defensive line since being drafted 78th overall in 2022. Over the last three seasons, Wright has totaled 11.5 sacks in 34 games, along with 19 TFLs, while also forcing three fumbles. Wright signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension last November and is under contract through 2028. Assuming his rehab goes well in the coming months, he should be back in time for the start of training camp next season.

Jakobi Meyers did not practice on Sunday.

Meyers was spotted with some sort of brace on his right hand at Friday’s preseason game against the Panthers, but we have not yet received word on what he’s dealing with. Hopefully we’ll get some answers from Liam Coen the next time he speaks to the media, but between what we saw on Friday and his absence on Sunday, it’s fair to wonder whether the veteran receiver is dealing with something that could cause him to miss some time. Meyers has reportedly had a nice camp in his first offseason with the Jaguars and is vying for WR2 duties this season.

Parker Washington (undisclosed) returned to practice on Sunday.

After missing last week due to an undisclosed issue, Washington was back on the field Sunday, participating in drills and working in seven-on-sevens. Whatever he was dealing with doesn’t appear to be anything too serious, which is a good sign for the fourth-year receiver who is looking to build on last year’s breakout campaign.

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said J.J. McCarthy got “banged up” in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Ravens.

McCarthy appeared on four for series, playing on 18 snaps while going 5-for-10 passing for 81 yards. According to KOC, he would have preferred to play McCarthy longer, but the third-year QB “was a little hobbled,” which led to the decision to pull him. O’Connell said he expects McCarthy to be fine and will look to provide an update soon, but given some of the hits he took from the Ravens on Saturday, this news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. McCarthy will get one more look this preseason in next week’s game against the Broncos if he’s able to go.
