Commanders sign CB Rasul Douglas to one-year deal

Commanders signed CB Rasul Douglas, formerly of the Dolphins, to a one-year contract.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Douglas can reportedly earn “up to $3.8 million” on his contract. The Commanders continue to look for ways to revamp a secondary that ranked among the league’s worst last season and are hopeful that Douglas can provide some additional help. The 31-year-old corner started 13 of the 15 games he appeared in last season, totaling 13 pass breakups and two interceptions while earning a PFF coverage grade of 72.6. He has played primarily on the outside for his career and played 749 of his 851 outside last season.

Bradley Chubb (foot) was added to Friday’s injury report and is questionable for Week 11 against the Commanders.

Chubb was a surprise addition to Friday’s report and was listed as limited. It’s never a good sign when a player is added to Friday’s report, so Chubb’s status will be one to watch when inactives are announced 90 minutes before kickoff. The veteran pass rusher has totaled 28 tackles, five sacks, and five TFLs this season after missing all of 2024 due to a torn ACL. If he’s unable to go on Sunday, veteran Matt Judon could see an uptick in snaps after playing in a limited role for most of the season. In addition to Chubb, the Dolphins also listed WR Dee Eskridge (shoulder) and CB Rasul Douglas (foot/ankle) as questionable for Week 11.

Dolphins CB Storm Duck (ankle) is questionable to return to Week 1’s game against the Colts.

Duck was at the bottom of a pile while making a tackle in the second quarter. He was able to hobble off the field before the cart took him the rest of the way into the locker room. The Dolphins’ secondary is incredibly banged up, so Duck was acting as one of their top corners. With him off the field, Rasul Douglas, who has only been with the team for a week, will step in as a boundary cornerback.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports CB Rasul Douglas is signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins had been in contact with Douglas over the offseason. The signing comes just in time for the season and it addresses a crucial need as it was already readily apparent the Dolphins needed help in the secondary. Douglas started 30 games mostly for the Bills over the last two seasons. The 30-year-old cornerback isn’t what he was earlier in his career, but with less than two weeks before the start of the regular season and the Dolphins desperate for secondary help he’s a good fit.

Free agent CB Rasul Douglas is visiting the Seahawks on Tuesday.

It’s been a slow offseason for the veteran corner after a rough year with the Bills where he finished with just a 51.6 PFF coverage grade. The Dolphins have reportedly been in contact with Douglas, but this is the first known visit for him. He’d likely fit as a depth piece in Seattle, perhaps one that pushes Josh Jobe for a starting job outside in a best-case scenario.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports that the Dolphins “have been in contact” with free agent CB Rasul Douglas.

The Dolphins appear dead set on a split with No. 1 CB Jalen Ramsey, which would leave them with slot CB Kader Kohou as the only reliable starter at the position. The 30-year-old Douglas is no longer a high-impact perimeter starter, having produced a single-digit (6.5 percent) forced incompletion rate last year; the first time doing so since 2018. He would still likely be an upgrade over penciled-in perimeter starters, Storm Duck and Cam Smith. Should the team resolve their issues with Ramsey, and sign Douglas, they would suddenly have a decent starting trio on their hands.

Bills declared S Taylor Rapp (neck) inactive for Week 16 against the Patriots.

The Bills also declared S Damar Hamlin, CB Rasul Douglas, LB Matt Milano, WR Curtis Samuel, DT DeWayne Carter and T Tylan Grable inactive. The Bills’ defense will be without both starting safeties, its No. 2 perimeter CB and its lynchpin LB. The Patriots’ offense should be able to provide at least a few usable fantasy outings in this one.

Bills S Taylor Rapp (neck) is questionable for Week 16 against the Patriots.

The Bills’ defense is fairly banged up at this point. Joining Rapp in the questionable column are S Damar Hamlin, LB Matt Milano, CB Rasul Douglas, LB Baylon Specter and LB Dorian Williams. Depending on the game-day inactive list, the Patriots’ offense could have an easier time than expected.

Douglas, Rapp, and Hamlin comprise three of the four regular starters in the Bills’ secondary, so these are some huge losses going into a game on the road in Detroit. This game was already likely to be a shootout, but the Lions’ pass catchers could all be in for a huge game.

Bills CB Rasul Douglas (knee) won’t play in Week 15 against the Lions.

Lions did not practice all week after sustaining a knee injury in the Bills’ Week 14 loss to the Rams. The veteran corner has started in every game for the Bills this season, earning a PFF coverage grade of 59.2 while allowing 36 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns on 48 targets. With Douglas sidelined who saw an increased role in last week’s game. In addition to Douglas, the Bills have also said safeties Taylor Rapp (neck/shoulder) and Damar Hamlin (back/ribs), and defensive end Dawuane Smoot (wrist) are all questionable for Week 15.

Rasul Douglas is doubtful to return to Week 14 against the Rams with a knee injury.

Douglas left the game with a rib injury late in the third quarter but was able to return before suffering a knee injury on the first drive of the fourth quarter that will likely keep him out for the remainder of the game. Douglas is having a rough afternoon trying to contain Puka Nacua, but he has been good for Buffalo all season and would be a major loss for this secondary if he winds up missing an extended period of time.

49ers TE George Kittle (Achilles) hasn’t had any setbacks and is expected to practice this week, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan caused some confusion earlier this week when he told reporters Kittle “took a step back.” Schefter cleared that up with his report Sunday morning that Kittle hasn’t had any setbacks in his recovery from a torn Achilles. According to Schefter, Kittle is expected to practice next week and still has a legitimate chance to play in Week 1’s game against the Rams in Australia. Fantasy managers could cover their bases by adding Jake Tonges in the event that Kittle isn’t active for the first game.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jalon Daniels has earned the Bucs’ backup quarterback spot.

It was subsequently announced that Jake Browning has been released. A UDFA out of Kansas, Daniels impressed during training camp and the preseason. He completed 27-of-44 passes for 239 yards, one score, and no interceptions. Daniels also ran for a touchdown. With Baker Mayfield set to hit free agency after this year, Daniels could be worth stashing in Superflex dynasty leagues.
