NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco believes 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) may not “make any contribution in 2026.”

Maiocco’s exact phrasing is a bit wordy, but he says, “it’s reasonable, rational, logical, for the 49ers to not expect Ricky Pearsall to make any contribution in 2026.” Pearsall is dealing with the same PCL tear that plagued him last year. The team reportedly believed it would heal this offseason. It apparently did not. The team is trying to determine whether he must undergo surgery to correct the issue. If so, he will miss the 2026 season. For those wondering why he did not undergo surgery earlier this offseason, Maiocco says the required recovery timeline would “probably” have caused him to miss the 2026 season anyway. If they delay the surgery this time around, his 2027 season could be impacted. Regardless of which path they choose, we hope Pearsall enjoys a swift, successful recovery. He should probably be avoided in fantasy drafts at this time.
Chiefs have a multi-dimensional offense this year

Chris Olave (undisclosed) was not seen practicing on Wednesday.

Olave took a hard hit to his legs late in the game and excused himself from his team’s final possession. The Saints’ star wide receiver plays through injuries whenever possible, so he should not be counted out. The injury report will clarify his injury status and participation level, but for now he appears to be headed toward a DNP to begin the week.

Bears LG Joe Thuney (pectoral) did not practice on Wednesday.

Bears RG Jonah Jackson (ankle) and RT Darnell Wright (ankle) also sat out. Starting LT Braxton Jones (knee) is currently on injured reserve. This unit is worth watching this week.

DeMeco Ryans said he will take over play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Matt Burke.

Ryans told reporters he wants to help streamline the communication from the sidelines to the defense. The Texans are built to be a defense-first title contender. They have allowed the seventh-most points this year and are still searching for their first win. The defense was no better when looking at EPA per play allowed, so their poor performance can’t be written off as a series of flukes. Something had to change. Ryans will now bear more responsibility on his side of the ball. If things don’t turn around in a hurry, Ryans’ job will almost certainly come into question.

Kaelon Black (illness) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

This should be a non-issue for Black by the time Sunday comes around. Black cut into Christian McCaffrey’s role again last week with six carries, though he only turned that into 13 yards. He doesn’t have much standalone fantasy value but remains one of the better contingency options headed into Week 5.

D’Andre Swift (hip/knee) did not practice on Wednesday.

Swift nursed this knee injury last week, but was active on game day, as usual. Bears RB2 Kyle Monangai took on 30 carries, functioning as the team’s offensive centerpiece after Swift lost a fumble in the second half. Perhaps Swift’s hip injury, which he apparently picked up in-game, contributed to Monangai’s increased involvement. Monangai injured his right thumb and suffered a toe injury, though he is expected to play in Week 5 against the Packers. Swift’s participation level is worth watching closely this week.

Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) did not practice on Wednesday.

Bears coach Ben Johnson continues to indicate the Monangai will be good to go for Week 5, but it is worth monitoring the Bears’ practice reports. D’Andre Swift (knee/hip) was also sidelined to begin the week. If Swift is unable to play, Monangai would take on a sizable workload in Week 5 against the Packers.

Mike Evans (ribs) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Evans played through his rib injury last week and was surprisingly productive, posting five catches for 76 yards. He led the 49ers in targets and yards. A limited session today is a good sign that the rib injury didn’t get any worse on Sunday. He should be good to go as a fantasy WR2 for his Week 5 matchup with the Seahawks.

Donte Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

Derwin James was also held out because of a hamstring injury. He is considered week-to-week. We don’t anticipate him suiting up on Sunday. A DNP for Jackson puts him on the wrong side of questionable as well. LA’s secondary will be an easy target for Bo Nix as he looks to bounce back from a lackluster Week 4.

Joe Alt (neck) did not practice Wednesday.

In true Chargers fashion, their once-promising offensive line has been scattered to the winds by injuries. Left tackle Rashawn Slater won’t play this week because of an ankle injury. Now their right tackle could also be put on ice. Already one of the most disappointing offenses of the year, there’s almost no hope for the Bolts to turn things around this week.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said WR Brenen Thompson (quad) will resume practicing on Wednesday.

Thompson is unlikely to be FLEX-viable, but the Chargers need all the help they can get, and he at least took a few first-team reps during preseason play. At worst, his speed will help keep safeties honest whenever he retakes the field on game day.
