Georgia Tech hired former NFL WR DeAndre Hopkins as assistant wide receivers coach.

The 13-year NFL veteran previously visited with the Patriots regarding a potential spot within their coaching ranks, ultimately landing in the college ranks with Georgia Tech. While he has yet to formally announce a retirement, the move clearly points to his playing days being over after failing to draw interest in the free agent market this offseason. If this is the end of the road for Hopkins, his career ends with 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns, placing him at 18th on the all-time career receiving list. It would also leave Mike Evans as the active player with the most career receiving yards.
Defense costs Cowboys again vs. UDFA QB Daniels
Dan Patrick recaps the TNF action that saw the Buccaneers beat the Cowboys in Arlington, where the offense sputtered and shoddy defense cost the home team once again while facing UDFA rookie QB Jalon Daniels.

Hopkins said last month that he would “love to play for a competitor” at this point in his career, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told Reiss that Hopkins is considering a coaching career, but it was not specified whether he is looking to join the Patriots’ staff this season or is simply kicking the tires on a future career change. Hopkins, 34, caught 22 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns in a limited role with the Ravens last season and wouldn’t be much more than a role player on any team he would join for this season.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Hopkins was refreshingly honest about what his role will look like going forward. He said, “I know in my position, I’m a utility guy. I’m a special situation kind of guy. I can go out there and beat anybody one-on-one at any time, but as of lately, I’ve been a third-down guy.” Hopkins added that he could also see extra work in the red zone. Entering his 14th year, Hopkins is indeed mostly a part-time player. He appeared in all 17 games for the Ravens last year and totaled just 330 yards. The Ravens credited him with three starts. Hopkins will likely sign with a contender at some point this summer, but his days as a fantasy contributor appear to be over.

He cautions that there’s still a possibility the Ravens address the position late in free agency, as Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, Deebo Samuel, and DeAndre Hopkins remain available. Still, he has the experience edge over the two rookie receivers and barring an injury stash situation it’s hard to understand the Ravens not keeping two players they just drafted. Considering Lamar Jackson’s history and the potential upside in Declan Doyle’s offense, Walker is an interesting buy in fantasy at this point — it’s just hard to make the case that he’s got a real floor.

Hopkins, 33, spent last season playing for Burrow’s AFC North rival Ravens. He posted a 22/330/2 receiving line. Hopkins is no longer an elite wide receiver, but he could be helpful for Burrow in fantasy, potentially operating as the team’s WR4. Unfortunately, Over The Cap lists the Bengals with the fourth-lowest salary cap space. Perhaps Hopkins will be willing to take a low-cost deal to play with Burrow.

Diggs is perhaps the biggest-name player still available in free agency, and Pelissero groups him with Deebo Samuel, DeAndre Hopkins, and Keenan Allen as wideouts who are waiting on the outskirts and probably can’t do better than a one-year, $5 million-type contract at this point. Pelissero points to the compensatory picks formula and notes that interest in these players may pick up closer to the draft.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #10
Hopkins’ only target was a miss as the wideout and Lamar Jackson miscommunicated, with the wideout assuming Lamar Jackson was going to dump the ball off and Jackson instead trying to lead Hopkins further downfield with his throw on the run. The 33-year-old was once among the best wideouts in the game, but is just an afterthought at this stage of his career. He could be back with Baltimore if he’s comfortable with this role. Time comes for us all.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #10
Hopkins got a target in the end zone from Tyler Huntley that wasn’t partciularly close. The Ravens’ passing game did almost nothing in this contest, but didn’t need to with Derrick Henry scoring four times and rushing for 216 yards. Hopkins likely will have a similiar amount of chances in Week 18 against the Steelers even if Lamar Jackson (back) returns to action.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #10
Not one of Hopkins’ four catches was routine as the veteran receiver made several spectacular grabs throughout. Arguably the most impressive was a ball down the sideline that deflected off the defenders hands, which he corralled in time to drag the trailing foot as he headed to the ground. Hopkins doesn’t play enough snaps for the low volume Ravens to warrant weekly fantasy consideration.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #10
Hopkins has run nine or fewer routes in five games this season, and tied a season-low in Week 14’s loss to the Steelers when he ran a whole seven routes. It would seem that more snaps and routes would go a long way in getting Hopkins more involved with the offense, but we can’t be too sure. Hopkins hasn’t seen more than four targets in any game this season, and last topped 50 yards in Week 2. The Ravens have a Week 15 game against the Bengals on tap in what is effectively an elimination game. We’ll see if the Ravens actually get Hopkins more involved, or if this is another meaningless coach quote that falls by the wayside.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #10
Hopkins has seen 11 targets in his last three games and remains an easy fade for fantasy. He broke free in the end zone in the fourth quarter for what would have been an easy touchdown were it not for Lamar Jackson throwing the ball out of play, but it was another forgettable day for Hopkins, who will enter Week 13 sitting on 999 career receptions.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said LT Tyler Guyton’s back injury is not considered serious.

This is good news. Guyton was replaced by OT Broderick Jones for the Cowboys’ final possession in Week 5 against the Buccaneers. Guyton and the rest of the Cowboys have an extended time off to rest and rehab their injuries after playing on Thursday night.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Jayden Daniels (elbow) is “not 100 percent” healthy yet.

Rapoport, typically cheery on the injury front, said that there are still “a lot of questions, going forward, for Jayden Daniels.” The bottom line is that Daniels is still rehabbing the elbow in his non-throwing arm. He should be able to throw and run effectively, putting him squarely in the QB1 tier, but re-injury risk remains a factor.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Justin Jefferson (ankle) plans to play in Week 5 against the Saints, but the team “has to see how he feels on Saturday.”

This is great news. We will not have to wait for the dreaded game-time decision call with Jefferson this time around. If active, Jefferson should be started as a WR1 against the Saints. He remained limited in practice all week. We will provide an update on the matter as soon as possible.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Terry McLaurin (hamstring) will “most likely” be a game-time decision for Week 5 against the Giants.

Keep it locked to Rotoworld, folks. Hopefully, we get word on McLaurin’s status on Saturday, but it appears as though we may have to wait until Sunday morning. Fowler adds that rookie WR Antonio Williams “could be a factor in the passing game regardless of whether McLaurin plays.”

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Seattle’s Week 6 Thursday Night Football game against the Broncos makes Zach Charbonnet’s (knee) ramp-up “tricky.”

Charbonnet is on schedule in his rehab program and “will be ready to ramp up his work next week.” Unfortunately, the Seahawks will have scaled-down practices as they prepare for their Thursday Night Football game. It sounds like Charbonnet is close to returning, but team doctors might want to see how his knee responds to a full week or practicing before clearing him. A condensed practice week indeed makes that tricky. Stay tuned.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Ravens “do not know” whether Lamar Jackson (ankle) will play in Week 6 against the Browns.

Earlier this week, Rapoport said Jackson had an “outside chance” of suiting up in Week 5 against the Falcons, but it sounds like the situation is a little more fluid than expected. With Tyler Huntley under center, the Ravens’ pass-catching corps takes a small hit, though Zay Flowers remains a must-start.

Colby Parkinson (knee/shoulder) practiced in full on Friday.

Parkinson is unlikely to be startable as a TE1 if he plays on Monday night, but his return will likely reduce Tyler Higbee’s snap share. Higbee has been TE1-viable in each of the last two weeks.

Aaron Donald (back) practiced in full on Friday.

This is a good sign for Donald. Meanwhile, CB Jaylen Watson (shoulder) remained limited and star S Quentin Lake (hip) remained sidelined. Watson starts in the No. 2 perimeter cornerback role, while Lake serves as the primary nickel cornerback and part-time safety. Missing either player would be notable.

Joshua Palmer (shoulder) was added to the injury report on Friday.

Palmer seemingly injured his shoulder in practice today. The Bills may already be without WR DJ Moore (shoulder) on Monday night. While Palmer is not relevant in 12-team leagues, his potential absence would improve Keon Coleman’s stock.

DJ Moore (shoulder) did not practice on Friday.

The Bills’ No. 1 wide receiver is on the wrong side of questionable for his team’s Monday Night Football game against the Rams. Moore sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder in Week 2. He aggravated it in Week 4 with a hard fall and was unable to continue playing. If active, Moore will be a risk-reward WR2.
