Breece Hall left Monday’s practice with trainers.

This is a developing story, so we might not know the specifics of Hall’s injury for a while. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that Hall went down untouched after making a catch, while Jets beat writer Brian Costello speculated that it could be a groin injury for Hall. It’s all speculation at this point, but the Jets losing Hall for any length of time would be a tough blow for the offense. He’s once again expected to handle a three-down workload after seeing a 33 percent opportunity share last season. We will check back in when we learn more about Hall’s status.
NFL Week 5 Preview: Browns vs. Jets
Chris Simms and Connor Rogers look ahead to the Browns' trip to MetLife to play the Jets, where they predict Deshaun Watson will come back down to Earth as something finally gives for the Jets.

Braelon Allen will once again be in line to lead the Jets’ backfield with Hall sidelined for a second consecutive week. Hall did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and will presumably be a DNP again on Friday, now that he has been ruled out ahead of practice. Allen saw 100 percent of the Jets’ running back opportunities last week, rushing 14 times for 59 scoreless yards while adding two receptions for an additional eight yards on two targets. He’ll be a fringe RB1/RB2 in what should be another high-volume day for the third-year back.

It doesn’t look like Hall will practice this week as he recovers from the injury he sustained in Week 3. That would mean Braelon Allen, who saw all 14 running back rushes for New York in Week 4, will again function as the team’s workhorse in Week 5 against the Browns. Allen should still be considered a top-24 option despite the Jets’ immense offensive struggles last week against Chicago. The Browns’ defense is allowing the sixth-highest EPA per rush this season. Hall was officially a non-participant on Wednesday’s injury report.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #15
Mitchell will miss another game with his finger injury and Hall will be sidelined with a quad injury he sustained last week against the Lions. Garrett Wilson, with Mitchell out, should continue dominating air yards and targets in the balanced Jets offense. Braelon Allen will take over as New York’s lead back for now and should be in all fantasy lineups against a suspect Chicago run defense. Kenyon Sadiq has some streaming appeal with Mitchell out.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall was initially mentioned as being week-to-week when he was diagnosed with his quad injury, so he was never really considered a candidate to play in Week 4 despite the team waiting until the end of the week to rule him out. With Hall out, the Jets will look to Braelon Allen to handle most of the backfield duties. Allen will profile as a solid RB2 candidate with a chance for more upside in what could be a high-volume day against the Bears. In addition to Hall, the Jets also ruled out OG Dylan Parham (knee), TE Mason Taylor (thumb), and LB Kiko Mauigoa (quad) for Week 4.

A “Week-to-week” designation leaves us struggling to see any way that Hall plays this week. Braelon Allen should be a reasonable RB2 in Hall’s absence. Hall will likely be questionable at best for Week 5.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall went down with a quad injury on Sunday against the Lions and did not return to the game. Braelon Allen took over as the Jets’ lead back, a role he’ll likely continue to occupy in Week 4 against the Bears’ gettable rush defense if Hall is sidelined. Allen should be rostered in all leagues and could be a top-20 option in Week 4.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
According to Rapoport, Hall received “good news after the MRI” he received after he suffered a thigh injury in the Jets’ Week 3 loss to the Lions. It doesn’t sound like Hall will be in line to suit up for Week 4’s game against the Bears, but he could avoid being placed on IR if the Jets believe he can return in less than four weeks. Braelon Allen will presumably take over as the Jets’ lead back during Hall’s absence, while Isaiah Davis could also see some work on offense after playing primarily on special teams through the first three weeks of the season. Allen has rushed 19 times for 61 yards and a touchdown this season while also tallying four receptions for 11 yards. He will border on the RB2/RB3 range in Week 4 against the Bears.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall exited in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Lions and did not return to the field after being ruled out quickly. Braelon Allen went on to handle backfield duties for the remainder of the game and will be a top waiver wire add this week if Hall were to miss any time. Hall has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this season, rushing for 51-163-1 (3.2 YPC), but has caught all 10 of his targets for 102 scoreless yards. Allen would be a fringe RB2/RB3 in Week 4 against the Bears if Hall is held out.

Hall was thrown to the ground on a red zone carry early in the fourth quarter and immediately grabbed at his thigh. He was slow to get up and left for the medical tent. The team ruled Hall out rather quickly, possibly signaling that the injury is serious. Braelon Allen will see the bulk of the touches for the remainder of the game.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall couldn’t get anything going on the ground, and that was mainly on the offensive line, which got no push against the Packers’ defensive front. More troubling was that Hall played on 48 of the team’s 74 snaps and ceded work to Braelon Allen, including a goal-line touchdown run. Hall’s receiving ability will help him save some fantasy value, and his 43-yard reception was basically all thanks to his ability after the catch, but the offensive line and Allen may keep Hall as a low-end RB2 unless his role changes.

Keenan Allen (rest/groin) is questionable for Indianapolis’ Week 5 game against the Steelers.

He did upgrade to a full practice today so he’s at least likely on the optimistic side of questionable. Still, we were hoping he’d be cleared off the line entirely today, so it does give us a little hesitation that he could practice all three times this week, including one full, and still be questionable. The Colts don’t really have much else behind him.

Saints TE Noah Fant (abdomen) was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 5 against the Vikings.

Fant sat out in Week 4 after scoring two touchdowns in Week 3. He is not fantasy-relevant on his own, but he can serve as a checkdown option for Tyler Shough. The Saints labeled WR Barion Brown (thigh) questionable to play this week.

Rico Dowdle (toe) is questionable for Pittsburgh’s Week 5 game against the Colts.

He did practice three consecutive days, even if they were all limited sessions. We’d regard Dowdle as on the optimistic side of questionable to return and cut in to Jaylen Warren’s full-time workload. It’s a good matchup against a Colts line that has, at times, had issues defending the run game. Dowdle will be a hard-to-start FLEX if active with a questionable workload.

Bears LG Joe Thuney (pectoral) is not on Chicago’s final Week 5 injury report.

Nor are Darnell Wright (ankle) or Jonah Jackson (ankle), as all three got in two sessions after a Wednesday DNP. It seems like all three just got a maintenance day. The Bears line will be in good shape this week against the Packers.

D’Andre Swift (hip/knee) is not on Chicago’s final Week 5 injury report.

Despite an early-week DNP, Swift heads into the week in arguably a better position than he started it. We’re not sure how much workload he’ll handle with Kyle Monangai (foot) out, but it will certainly be a large majority of what the Bears do. Roschon Johnson figures to handle whatever Swift can’t, but isn’t a priority free agency pickup so much as a stash at this point.

Caleb Williams (hamstring) resumed practicing on Friday.

Williams got in a limited session today. It is his first time practicing since straining his hamstring in Week 2 against the Vikings. According to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, Williams could be ramped up in time to face the Falcons in Week 6, depending on how his body responds. Earlier today, we learned that the Bears have not yet determined his expected return date, but a progression plan is in place with specific benchmarks. He should be rostered in 10- and 12-team leagues.

Brock Bowers (knee) is not on Las Vegas’ final injury report for Week 5.

He practiced in full each of the last two days after a limited session on Wednesday. Bowers should be started with confidence in Week 5, though it looks like the knee injury will continue to limit his practice reps.

Rhamondre Stevenson (knee) is questionable for New England’s Week 5 game against the Raiders.

Stevenson told Mike Reiss that he’s “ready to go” and that he just got “rolled up on” late in Week 4’s win over the Bills. We’d be surprised if he didn’t play on Sunday and he should be regarded on the optimistic side of questionable.

Chargers placed Rashawn Slater (ankle) on injured reserve.

Slater suffered a high-ankle sprain and had surgery — a tight-rope procedure — to try to accelerate his return. Sounds like a pretty severe version of a high-ankle sprain. He’ll miss at least the next four weeks and be eligible to return in Week 9. The Bolts are dealing with a ton of injuries along their offensive line and it’s currently unknown how that will shake out for Week 5, which we’re sure Justin Herbert is loving.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Caleb Williams (hamstring) has a “progression” plan, but his return timeline is still “to be determined.”

The Bears have a progression plan in place for Williams’ rehab, and per Johnson, the star quarterback is “right on track.” Williams resumed throwing “a little bit the other day.” Although the team does not yet know when Williams will retake the field on game day, they have set up a series of benchmarks for him to hit. Their Week 7 Thursday Night Football game could complicate things. Bringing Williams back in Week 6 would give him a short turnaround, and he could be sore after his first game back. Expect them to handle this cautiously. The Bears currently sit in second in the NFC North with a 3-1 record.
