It’s been a busy Monday for the Giants, who have now added three receivers to the roster with the signing of Smith-Schuster. The 29-year-old pass-catcher has spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs as a role player, catching 51 passes for 576 yards and three touchdowns over that span. The receiver-needy Giants also added Braxton Berrios and Odell Beckham Jr. to give them what is quickly becoming one of the older wide receiver rooms in the league. Much like the other two players signed before him, there’s little reason to believe Smith-Schuster will make any sort of meaningful fantasy impact in 2026, if he makes the roster.

The drumbeat continues to grow louder for an OBJ/Giants reunion. The star receiver was recently spotted at Brian Burns charity softball game over the weekend, and has remained in constant contact with the team this offseason. At 33 years old, it’s hard to imagine OBJ offering much upside in reality and in fantasy land. Beckham didn’t play in 2025 and had a forgettable 2024 season with the Dolphins, catching nine passes for 55 scoreless yards. In addition to Beckham, the Giants are also working out JuJu Smith-Schuster, Braxton Berrios, and Anthony Miller on Monday. Smith-Schuster caught 33 passes for 345 yards and one touchdown last season with the Chiefs.

The veteran had more than three receptions in just three games this season, totaling 34 catches for 334 yards and two a touchdown. Smith-Schuster operated mostly as a rotational receiver and an intermediate outlet for Patrick Mahomes. The 29-year-old wideout, with 51 catches over the past two seasons, will probably be with another team in 2026. He’s an unrestricted free agent.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
JuJu, Xavier Worthy, and Hollywood Brown all saw exactly three targets with Rashee Rice sidelined this week. Smith-Schuster somehow led the trio in catches and yards. He isn’t a fantasy option in his own right, but JuJu is preventing any other wideout from stepping up as the team’s No. 1 receiver. Fantasy managers can ignore all three players for their Week 18 showdown with Las Vegas.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
Smith-Schuster is barely on the FLEX radar, now thoroughly past his prime. He has totaled five targets in 3-of-4 games thus far, though, so losing him to an injury could hurt Patrick Mahomes’ scoring ability a tad. Fortunately, that will not be an issue here. Smith-Schuster should be good to go for Week 5 against the Jaguars.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
Smith-Schuster logged a route on 37 of Patrick Mahomes’ 44 dropbacks and caught one of Mahomes’ four touchdowns in the easy win over a beat-up Baltimore defense. Smith-Schuster caught his touchdown — the first of his 2025 season — between two defenders from four yards out. An every-down player in the pass-heavy KC offense, Smith-Schuster — with 14 catches through Week 4 — should be rostered in deep fantasy leagues. He gets the Jaguars in Week 5.

Not a big surprise here as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid described Worthy’s odds of playing in Week 2 as “slim” on Friday. Reid would go on to say that Worthy is doing well, which bodes well for his availability in Week 3, after suffering a shoulder injury that stemmed from a collision with tight end Travis Kelce in Week 1 against the Chargers. The Chiefs’ wide receiver room is wide open without Worthy and Rashee Rice, who still has five games of his suspension left. Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are next up for Kansas City in the passing game with Brown seeing 16 targets in Week 1 against the Chargers.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
The Chiefs lost Xavier Worthy to a shoulder injury early in this game and Rashee Rice is serving a six-week suspension, elevating Smith-Schuster to a starting role. He was open for the occasional check-down from Patrick Mahomes but wasn’t overly involved in the game plan. Hollywood Brown led the team with a staggering 16 targets. JuJu’s five looks were second-most on the squad. Smith-Schuster will have WR6 fantasy value if Worthy is sidelined for Week 2 versus the Eagles, though most fantasy managers won’t need to dig that deep this early in the year.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
Smith-Schuster returns to the Chiefs on a one-year deal after serving in a complementary role with the team in 2024. The financials have not yet been released, but they are unlikely to turn many heads. Smith-Schuster was responsible for modest returns outside of the one game he played without all of Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, and DeAndre Hopkins, putting up a massive 8-130 receiving line in Week 5. While Nuk is no longer in town, the team also re-signed Brown, have promising second-year speedster Xavier Worthy, and will likely be getting back Rice, pending any legal ramifications from his previous troubles.
  • KC Wide Receiver #9
Back in Kansas City after an unsuccessful 2023 hiatus in New England, 28-year-old Smith-Schuster emerged as an injured Rashee Rice’s unlikely replacement in Week 5 only to suffer a hamstring ailment of his own. After erupting for 130 yards in that contest, Smith-Schuster would produce only 84 total yards upon returning from his muscle pull in Week 11. He was slightly more involved in the postseason, but this remains a player in terminal career decline. Heading back to free agency, the former Steelers phenom has just 491 yards over his past 25 regular season games.

Colts CB Charvarius Ward (back) is sidelined indefinitely.

Ward was contemplating retirement this offseason due to a scary amount of documented concussions, but gave it a go at training camp only to wind up missing tons of time due to this back injury. The 30-year-old will start for the Colts if he’s healthy for Week 1, but that sounds like an open question at this time.

The Athletic’s James Boyd left DJ Giddens off his 53-man roster projection.

It’s been hard to find a good word from a beat on Giddens this offseason, so this isn’t an overly surprising conclusion to see listed out. He’s been sidelined for most of camp with a hamstring injury. The Colts look like they’ll keep Seth McGowan as their main backup to Jonathan Taylor. In this projection, Giddens loses the third running back spot to Ulysses Bentley IV.

Seahawks RB jadarian Price (upper-leg soreness) returned to full participation in practice on Monday.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after the drills Monday that Price “isn’t fully unleashed for unlimited work, and that his practice participation will ramp up some.” The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell believes Price will be the lead back in Week 1. It sounds like he’s going to be healthy for the opener as things sit right now; we’ll see how things shake out in preseason Week 2 before we go making sweeping declarations.

Commanders placed RB Jerome Ford on injured reserve.

No word on what the injury was; it’s possible Ford is released with an injury settlement and resurfaces elsewhere this year. Not being close to making the Commanders depth chart at running back is ... a bleak endorsement of Ford’s future prospects. He’ll look to catch on elsewhere.

Jalen McMillan (leg) returned to practice on Tuesday.

He was sidelined for a little over two weeks. McMillan is being treated like an afterthought in drafts, going off the board behind Cooper Kupp in the WR6 ranks. McMillan had a nine-target game last year despite missing most of the season and is still just 24 years old. Even with the Ted Hurst hype coming out of camp, there’s a chance for McMillan to be a useful spot starter in fantasy leagues this year.

Broncos coach Sean Payton said he pulled Jonah Coleman from the team’s first preseason game early because he “didn’t need additional evidence of what I’ve been seeing for three weeks.’'

It sure seems like Coleman is going to have a real role in the Broncos muddy backfield from the start of the season on. Coleman had four carries for 24 yards in the first quarter. His ascendance could cap ceilings for JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey assuming all three backs are healthy. Coleman’s worthy of a roster spot in most 12-team leagues at this point.

Ravens DT Nnamdi Madubuike remains “very limited as to what he’s doing in practice.”

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec notes that Madubuike “mostly takes part in the team stretch, does some light individual work with a coach or athletic trainer and then heads to another field for conditioning. He hasn’t done anything that involves significant contact, including striking the blocking sled.” It’s certainly possible that Madubuike takes into the regular season to be ready to play football again based on this update, even if it is good news that he’s going through a ramp up. Zrebiec mentions that Madubuike could be a candidate for an IR-return spot.

    Giants released WR JuJu Smith-Schuster.

He wasn’t healthy for much of training camp and apparently wasn’t needed to help further teach the Matt Nagy offense to the Giants. Smith-Schuster is just veteran depth at this point of his career, he’ll try to catch on elsewhere before the season starts.

Travis Hunter took zero 11-on-11 reps on offense on Monday.

It was suggested by Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley that the Jaguars could be “tipping their hand” here, as he writes “it is clear the Jaguars believe they need to devote more practice time with Hunter before Week 1 at cornerback, which could be the biggest signal yet that the majority of his snaps against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 13 will be at cornerback.” Hunter will likely still be involved in the offense — he has worked with the offense every day before this — but it is notable that there was a shift here. Hunter will likely be just a dart throw WR5/WR6 in most standard leagues this year.

Quentin Johnston left Tuesday’s joint practice against the 49ers with an undisclosed lower body injury.

He was noted as “coming up limping” and worked with a trainer on the sideline. It doesn’t seem like this is a major injury as he was noted as “working off to the side” by Chargers beat Fernando Ramirez, but we’ll keep an eye out for any further updates on Johnston’s status.
