NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports that the Texans inquired about Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte’s availability.

Boutte has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason. Back in June, the Commanders and Raiders were linked to him in an ESPN report. Nothing has come to fruition thus far, and Boutte has received positive reviews throughout training camp. The Athletic’s Chad Graff described him as the camp “star” earlier this month. The Texans are attempting to improve their wide receiver corps after losing WR Jayden Higgins to an ACL tear recently. Fellow second-year wide receiver Jaylin Noel has also been dealing with finger and hamstring injuries. Boutte would give the Texans a solid vertical element if he ends up in Houston. He might warrant FLEX treatment in the right matchup.

Kayshon Boutte caught 3-of-5 targets for 37 yards in Houston’s Week 2 loss to the Bengals.

Expected to be “used a lot” by Ian Rapoport’s reporting, Boutte was on the field for 53-of-76 snaps. He either didn’t look completely comfortable with the offense yet or wasn’t fully integrated, depending on how nice you want to be about it — C.J. Stroud’s one near-pick was in his area on a ball he wasn’t expecting and it was clear he and Dalton Schultz weren’t on the same page. Boutte’s role should continue to grow next week assuming Nico Collins remains out but the Texans haven’t really embraced his talents yet.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Texans WR Kayshon Boutte could be used “a lot” in Week 2 against the Bengals.

Rapoport’s full quote is winding and hyperbolic, but it sounds like Boutte will be a featured receiver if the Texans believe he is ready to handle that role with WR Nico Collins (hamstring) sidelined. Rapoport notes that Boutte played in “the same” offensive scheme during his time with the Patriots, so adjusting to his new team’s playbook theoretically should have been easy. That said, Boutte caught just one pass last week. He can be treated as a volatile but viable FLEX starter in Week 2.

Kayshon Boutte caught 1-of-2 targets for 21 yards in Houston’s Week 1 loss to the Bills.

Boutte managed just 36-of-79 snaps, third-most among Texans wideouts, as they ran weird platoons that had Jared Wayne, Jaylin Noel, and Xavier Hutchinson all on the field for at least 24 snaps. Until someone conclusively wins this job, or at least we start getting some juice that someone might win the job, it’ll be hard to start any of these receivers in fantasy football.

Texans HC DeMeco Ryans said Kayshon Boutte will play in Week 1 against the Bills.

Speaking on Monday, Ryans said Boutte has been “picking up the playbook really well.” The fourth-year receiver was acquired in a trade with the Patriots back on August 24th and is expected to have an immediate role in the offense after the Texans lost Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL earlier this offseason. Boutte has served primarily as a field stretcher during his first three years in the league and shouldn’t be trusted in start/sit leagues this week.

Texans placed WR Tank Dell on injured reserve, designated to return.

The designation to return means that Dell is expected to contribute in some capacity this season, although he appears a ways off still. With Jaylin Noel still nursing an injury after experiencing a setback and Jayden Higgins lost for the season, recent acquisition Kayshon Boutte has all the runway to operate as the WR2 opposite Nico Collins to start the season. Xavier Hutchinson should also see an uptick in opportunities while tight end Dalton Schultz should see a significant boost in weekly volume.

Texans acquired WR Kayshon Boutte from the Patriots in exchange for S Jaylen Reed.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the transaction. Boutte now gets a fresh start in Houston after being phased out of the Patriots’ offense following the additions of Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown this offseason. The 24-year-old receiver is in the final year of his rookie contract and has a chance to step into an immediate role for the Texans after they lost Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL last week. Boutte totaled 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns last season and has averaged 15.0 YPR in his last two seasons. He’s been used primarily as a field stretcher by the Patriots and will likely see a similar role in Houston, which could make meaningful fantasy production hard to come by.

The Athletic’s Chad Graff believes Kayshon Boutte has been the “star” of Patriots training camp.

Boutte, according to Patriots beat writers and coaches, has functioned as Drake Maye’s favorite target, especially downfield, while A.J. Brown struggles to connect with Maye while dealing with consistent coverage from all-pro CB Christian Gonzalez. “If [Boutte] keeps this up, he’s either increasing his value on the trade market or playing his way into a meaningful role with the Pats,” Graff said. Boutte had been rumored as a trade candidate after the Patriots acquired Brown and Romeo Doubs this offseason. He should be drafted in all 12-team fantasy formats in the coming weeks.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports that Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte “delivered highlight plays each of the first two days of training camp.”

Boutte has been getting behind the Patriots’ defense thus far, maintaining the positive downfield play he demonstrated last season. The fourth-year wide receiver was the subject of trade rumors earlier this offseason. Training camp hype could get that news cycle going again. That said, having a deep receiving corps is a great problem to have. If Boutte is willing to buy into a rotational WR3/4 role behind WR1 A.J. Brown and WR2 Romeo Doubs, keeping Boutte in a Patriots uniform could be best for all involved. It will be very difficult for him to warrant FLEX treatment in re-draft formats with his current squad, though.

Boutte wouldn’t seem to have a real role with the Patriots after they acquired A.J. Brown on June 1 — one could argue the most surprising thing about that deal going down is the fact that Boutte wasn’t involved in it. Boutte is reportedly available in a trade, and ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported last week that the Patriots have received interest. It’s in Boutte’s financial best interests to show up.

Boutte remains away from the team and is interested in being traded, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 24-year-old former sixth-round pick is in the last year of his contract and with the Patriots adding A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs this offseason, the writing is on the wall. Graziano mentions the Commanders and Raiders as teams that could be looking for receiver help.

The Arizona Republic’s Theo Mackie reports Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur “met [the] idea” of manufacturing touches for Marvin Harrison “with skepticism.”

“I know it’s like, ‘Well, just get some easy completions to get going,’” LaFleur told Mackie. “And that’s fine. You also have Trey McBride, who’s one of the best underneath guys in the world. And there’s only about 60, 65 plays a game. And you’ve gotta run the ball. And you’ve got Kendrick, who works underneath pretty well too. So everyone’s kind of got their role.” In other words; don’t look for LaFleur to bail your Harrison fantasy pick out. If Harrison does get cooking this year it’ll be in the normal flow of their offense. So far that has yielded just four targets in two games.

Harbaugh was scooped to his press conference by multiple reporters saying that Dart was likely to miss the remainder of the season, so he probably didn’t have time to change the talking points. It feels like we’re just waiting on this to be official at this point; the Giants will likely name Jameis Winston their starter on Wednesday.
