CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports Ravens WR Ja’Kobi Lane (wrist) is expected to undergo surgery “in the coming days.”

Lane fractured his wrist in the Ravens’ Week 1 victory over the Colts, catching one pass for 11 yards in his rookie debut. The 22-year-old operated as a top-three receiver in the Ravens offense and was set for a sizeable role prior to the injury. He was seeking multiple opinions on the injury as of Monday, but Zenitz now reports Lane is expected to have surgery on his wrist very soon. Zenitz adds that the hope is for the rookie to be able to return in a month. Injured reserve will be a consideration for Lane, which would be a four-game absence at the minimum.
Goff, Stafford were both 'winners' in 2021 trade
The Dan Le Batard Show crew discusses the Matthew Stafford-Jared Goff trade 5 years later, highlighting that Goff has been a piece of the first fun Lions teams in a long time despite being the less talented player.

Lane underwent surgery to address a fracture in his wrist and will now miss at least four games on short-term injured reserve. He will be eligible to return in Week 6. Ravens No. 1 WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) is also nursing an injury. Theoretically, fellow rookie WR Elijah Sarratt should be active in Week 2 against the Saints, though it is unclear if he would have a meaningful role if Flowers plays.

It was reported Sunday night that Lane was likely to miss several weeks, but on Monday, Minter said Lane could be out a bit longer than expected. The rookie third-rounder caught 1-of-3 targets for 11 yards in his pro debut but was seeing a good amount of work before exiting. Lane’s 24 first-half snaps were the second-most of any Ravens receiver. We’ll likely have a better sense of how long Lane will be sidelined in the coming days.

Garafolo’s colleague, Ian Rapoport, adds that Lane will be sidelined for “several weeks.” This is an unfortunate development for both the player and the team. Fellow Ravens WR Zay Flowers aggravated the hamstring injury he recently rehabbed as well. Expect rookie WR Elijah Sarratt to be active in Week 2 against the Saints.

Lane caught 1-of-3 targets for 11 yards in his pro debut and had a short touchdown overturned in the second quarter on a holding penalty. Lane was seeing significant work in the first half. His 24 first-half snaps, per TruMedia, were good for the second-most among Ravens receivers. We’ll now wait for word on his status ahead of Week 2’s game against the Saints.

Lane, selected with the 80th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has wowed coaches and beat writers throughout training camp with highlight contested catches while earning the trust of Lamar Jackson and first-year OC Declan Doyle. Lane, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, has “made a highlight-reel catch, several with one hand, on almost a per-practice basis over the past month.” In a preseason tilt against the Eagles, Lane caught all three of his targets for 38 yards and a touchdown. “This guy is different,” Jackson told reporters afterward. It would be surprising if Lane did not start the regular season as an every-down wideout in the Baltimore offense. His connection with Jackson should instantly make him the team’s No. 2 wideout behind Zay Flowers.

Lane has impressed in camp, and he snagged a 16-yard touchdown from fellow rookie Joe Fagnano for his first score of the season. The 80th pick of last year’s draft, Lane’s 6-foot-4 frame makes him a potential threat inside the 20, and it appears he’s going to get a chance to win the No. 3 receiving job. At the very least, Lane is worth monitoring in deeper formats.

The full quote is a bit winding, but Hensley said, “in 27 years of covering the Ravens, I’m not sure I’ve seen a rookie have a training camp quite like wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane.” This is high praise, though the qualifying language verges on hyperbolic. Regardless, Hensley adds that Lane “produces a highlight-making catch” every day and teammates are celebrating his successes. The Ravens’ offense generally supported two fantasy-relevant pass catchers under former OC Todd Monken. Repeating the feat with new OC Declan Doyle, whom QB Lamar Jackson is excited about, seems plausible. Could Lane step up and be the No. 2 pass catcher behind WR Zay Flowers? Only time will tell. The team was celebrating Lane’s red zone abilities back in May. Perhaps a FLEX-worthy season is possible.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #6
“This has been an outstanding start to camp for Lane, a third-round pick from USC who has become the team’s No. 3 wide receiver behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman,” writes Hensley. It was expected that Devontez Walker would ascend to the No. 3 receiver role in the offseason, but Lane appears to be pushing for early work in Baltimore. Lane isn’t yet more than a deep-league stab, but with Flowers and Mark Andrews presumably the lead targets in Baltimore, Lane does have some target vacuum runway if he takes hold of a job. He’s one to watch in preseason.
  • BAL Wide Receiver
Lane stands 6'4/200 with 10.5" hands and an 80.75" wingspan. It’s a unique build in the Ravens’ wide receiver corps. Lane is reportedly slated for a perimeter-bound role and will have a chance to establish himself as the team’s second receiver in two-wide receiver sets alongside No. 1 WR Zay Flowers. For Lane to become FLEX-viable in year one, he will have to contend with Ravens TE Mark Andrews and the unit’s newly reinforced depth. That is a tall order for a third-round pick. With fourth-round rookie WR Elijah Sarratt expected to man the slot, Lane may run few fast-developing routes in the open field, making him a potentially volatile producer even in the best-case scenario.
  • BAL Wide Receiver
This role comes with positives and negatives. Lining up in the slot gives the receiver a chance to run routes against linebackers and safeties. It can also mean he is forced to leave the field when the offense switches to two-wide receiver sets — a role that fellow rookie, boundary WR Ja’Kobi Lane, will likely get the first crack at. Sarratt logged 2,435 snaps lined up on the perimeter and 396 lined up in the slot in college, but he was very efficient on a per-route basis in the latter role. Sarratt’s training camp progress is worth following closely. The slot role will give him the chance to earn PPR-friendly lay-up targets, but he may need to command at least a mild-to-moderate perimeter snap share to become a matchup-based FLEX starter.

Ravens downgraded WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) to out for Week 2 against the Saints.

The team pulled the plug on Flowers’ potential to play in Week 2 after the veteran receiver departed the team’s Week 1 win with a hamstring injury. No word yet on how long the injury is expected to sideline Flowers, who appears to have a good shot at suiting up when the team faces off against the Cowboys on the road in Week 3. Tight end Mark Andrews could see a slight uptick in volume in the interim.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports Texans WR Nico Collins (hamstring) could miss two games.

The Texans received relatively good news from initial testing, which revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury. Even so, word around the team is that they are preparing to be without their star receiver for two games, which makes sense considering his lengthy soft tissue injury history. Fantasy managers will want to make alternate plans after losing one of their top selections off the board.

Giants CB Deonte Banks (calf) is questionable for Week 2 against the Rams.

Also listed questionable is LB Micah McFadden, while CB Greg Newsome, T Andrew Thomas, DL Chauncey Golston, and OL Francis Mauigoa were removed from the injury report and will play. While Banks’ status is of particular concern against the high-flying Rams aerial attack, their opponent could be without All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua, who is listed as questionable with a groin injury.

Rams WR Puka Nacua (groin) is questionable for Week 2 against the Giants.

Nacua did not practice for the second consecutive day Saturday, prompting the questionable designation for Monday Night Football. The issue is now being called a groin ailment and is reportedly unrelated to the psoas injury he dealt with during the offseason. Fantasy managers will want to start making alternate plans for their first-round pick considering the Rams don’t play until the final game of the week. Jordan Whittington is listed as doubtful with a quad injury.

Patriots downgraded CB Carlton Davis (neck) to out for Week 2 against the Steelers.

Davis was unable to practice all week with a neck injury and will ultimately be held out of the team’s Week 2 game against the Steelers. Pittsburgh will be without starting wide receiver Michael Pittman, so it will be interesting how the Patriots choose to deploy Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez could find himself in shadow coverage of opposing alpha DK Metcalf.

Steelers downgraded WR Michael Pittman (foot) to out for Week 2 against the Patriots.

Pittman was unable to get on the practice field this week and will now miss Week 2 as a result of a foot injury. DK Metcalf enters the WR2 discussion in a difficult matchup on paper after ranking in the top five in expected fantasy points in Week 1, for an offense near the top of the league in pass rate over expectation in their first game. Third-year receiver Roman Wilson and rookie Germie Bernard see an uptick in value, although both are difficult starts outside the deepest of leagues. Tight end pat Freiermuth can be started as a back-end TE1 in a pinch.

Jets placed WR Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle) on injured reserve.

The news was first reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. Cooper is going on injured reserve for an ankle sprain. He’ll be sidelined for at least four games with a designation to return. Rapoport mentions that Cooper should be back “shortly.” Cooper could still make an impact in the second half of his rookie season, but he isn’t worth holding in most fantasy formats at this point.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes it’s “worth considering” replacing Lions DC Kelvin Sheppard if Detroit’s defense doesn’t improve.

Appearing on the Rich Eisen Show Friday, Breer was quick to point out the Lions’ defensive struggles. Detroit has allowed 917 yards and 71 points in two games. Breer noted that while the Lions are dealing with injuries in the secondary, that doesn’t excuse their problems in the running game. Detroit has allowed 294 rushing yards, 4.8 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns this year. While it’s still early in the season, Breer says the Lions defensive performance isn’t a “one-off” and that it’s been “messy” for a while. It was a stark contrast from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport’s take on the Pat McAfee show earlier this week where he said, “My guess is the Lions are going to be fine.” Lions HC Dan Campbell has pulled the plug on his offensive coordinator midseason twice in five years, but has afforded his defensive coordinators a longer leash. Sheppard was promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator after Aaron Glenn was hired by the Jets prior to the 2025 season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said he “would not be surprised” if Texans WR Jaylin Noel is more involved in Week 2 against the Bengals.

Rapoport adds that Noel is “really talented.” We agree, but the Texans have consistently played WR Xavier Hutchinson ahead of him. Noel, 24, is an explosive player, and the Texans will be looking for playmakers to contribute with WR Nico Collins (hamstring) sidelined this week. Noel is officially on the boom-bust FLEX radar in Week 2 against the Bengals.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Texans WR Kayshon Boutte could be used “a lot” in Week 2 against the Bengals.

Rapoport’s full quote is winding and hyperbolic, but it sounds like Boutte will be a featured receiver if the Texans believe he is ready to handle that role with WR Nico Collins (hamstring) sidelined. Rapoport notes that Boutte played in “the same” offensive scheme during his time with the Patriots, so adjusting to his new team’s playbook theoretically should have been easy. That said, Boutte caught just one pass last week. He can be treated as a volatile but viable FLEX starter in Week 2.
